The Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported, early Friday morning (June 13, 2025), that the Israeli army has begun attacking targets inside the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a dangerous development that portends an unprecedented escalation in the region.

According to the newspaper, several explosions were heard in and around the capital, Tehran, amid conflicting reports about the nature of the targeted sites. No official comment has yet been issued by the Iranian side regarding the attack or the extent of the damage.

This development comes after days of mutual threats between the two sides, and a recent round of negotiations in Amman, during which Washington attempted to avoid a military confrontation, but which failed to produce a clear agreement.

We will provide you with details as soon as they are received.

Security sources announced early Saturday that Israeli warplanes had carried out airstrikes targeting sites in the Iranian capital, Tehran. This comes as part of an unprecedented escalation between the two sides. Official details regarding the nature of the targets or the extent of the losses have not yet been released.

In parallel with the strike, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz declared a special state of emergency on the home front "across the State of Israel," in anticipation of an Iranian counterattack.

Katz said: "Following the preemptive strike launched by the State of Israel against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the near future."

Tehran has yet to issue any official comment on the strike or any potential response, while regional tensions remain high, with growing warnings of an escalating conflict.
