Adviser to the Prime Minister for Financial Affairs, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, noted on Thursday that the previous public budgets consisted of paying salaries instead of services, while stressing the need for an amendment to the "white paper" by the specialists.

This came during a financial and accounting training center set up by the Ministry of Finance entitled (Assessment of fiscal vitality in public budgets), according to a statement issued by the ministry, received by Shafak News Agency.

Saleh said, according to the statement, that "most of the previous budgets were compensatory budgets, that is, distributing salaries instead of free public services, and converting them to special services such as electricity and water, and this is a failure in preparing public budgets."

He added that "the ministry's financial policy came with positive financial results, and modified the Iraqi economy," noting that "this change should not continue for a long time because it will affect the general members of society."

The economic advisor praised “the economic reforms presented by the white paper that significantly improved the country’s situation and the conduct of financial matters,” stressing the need to “adopt these reforms and amend this paper by the specialists.”

He explained, "The person of the prime minister is not disputed over whether he was Jaafar or someone else, but the essence of the conversation lies in the largest bloc that has not been agreed upon so far."

He added that "the governor of Basra, Asaad al-Eidani, may be proposed for the position of prime minister, and he is acceptable to all, but so far he has not been put forward among the candidates."

link

The State of Law coalition confirmed, on Friday, the inability of the current government to approve the budget as it is a caretaker, indicating that the political agreement will end the economic and political crises in the country.

Member of State of Law Sabah Al-Bazzo said in a televised interview that "the political scene is ambiguous and the challenges are many, and that the political agreement will help Iraq get out of crises."

He added, "The caretaker government is unable to approve the financial budget, and submitting any law to the budget is a clear and explicit violation that cannot be tolerated."

He pointed out that "the tripartite alliance is unable to achieve a quorum to vote on the president of the republic, and that going to the session to choose the president of the republic without political consensus will lead to a big problem."

Talabani hints at 'one candidate' for the presidency: It is not too late

link

The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, hinted , on Thursday, to the possibility of agreeing on one candidate for the presidency of the Republic, during his meeting with a delegation from the European Union.

During his meeting with the delegation (March 17, 2022), in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah, Talabani said: "It is not too late, and we can all put political and personal conflicts aside, and present one candidate for the presidency, in a patriotic spirit, to strengthen the entity of the Kurdistan region and protect the higher interests."

Talabani stressed, "The situation in Iraq requires a settlement and mutual understanding in order to form a strong and effective government that provides peace and stability for the people."

And last Monday, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Majid Shankali, said that the time for negotiations with the PUK has ended, and it may be difficult to return to an agreement, suggesting that it is likely to go towards the 2018 scenario.

Shankali stressed: "The time for negotiations with the PUK has ended, and the reality of the situation today is that both parties have a candidate for the presidency," noting that "the recent Iranian attack on Erbil may be a political pressure, not a security one."

He added, "After the Nowruz holidays, the features of the next government will become clear, in light of the recent rapprochement between the coordination framework and the Sadrist movement, and it is possible that the two Kurdish parties will enter the national space with two candidates to choose him as President of the Republic, and the chances of our candidate are greater than those of the National Union candidate."

He pointed out that "the last meeting in El-Hanana led to the participation of the coordination framework in the next government, but the tripartite alliance still remains, and this certainly does not satisfy the framework, who want a broader participation."

3-17-2022   Newshound Guru Breitling  Iraq is going to benefit from this [Russian situation] in more ways than one.   We are going to cut Russian oil off and these countries that were buying oil are going to spool up.  They are going to be making even more money.

What has been worrying me for a while is, yes they have been talking about the exchange rate a lot, only they are talking about the previous rate. The Kurds, oil & gas law & maybe one or two other issues I see needs to be resolved...I am just not seeing anything clear cut for what we seek, it is the opposite. Furthermore the government formation which is needed, is still going to take some time. As I had stated prior many times, the WP is not only economic reforms, but government reforms & the later comes first. I had hoped government reforms aka new government seatings would happen quickly, but reality is setting in.

3-17-2022   Intel Guru MarkZ   [via PDK]  [Mark what do you mean when you say bank screens are showing $4 for dong?]  Bank screens on different currencies…Even though rates are locked, values fluctuate...I have 2 different bankers that have told me they are seeing $4 rates…this could just be a place holder. Most bankers believe the rate will be around $2.25 to $2.30.

3-17-2022   Newshound Guru Pimpy  Community comment:  "I think they will change the rate because they want to.  I'm very practical. I don't think they can just change it just because they want to.  There's a lot of other factors involved.  So be a lot more practical...I don't think there's an issue at the moment other than the fact that it appears that Al-Kazemi's administration wanted to make absolutely sure that they fixed the wrongs of the past and get Iraq back on track...

3-17-2022   Intel Guru BobTheTaxMan  ...It's getting closer not getting farther away.  When we take a look at oil prices...and when we take a look at the fact that Kuwait has been paid off, when we take a look at that now the competition that we were having inside of Iraq for, 'Gee, do we lean toward Russia?  Lean toward China?  Lean toward the U.S.?'  Well duh! That's taken care of. Everything is aligning itself to the point to yes things are moving forward...

3-17-2022   Newshound Guru Samson  Article:  "Al-Halbousi announces the date of the presidential election session"  Quote:  “It was decided to set Saturday, March 26, as the date for the parliament session to elect the president of the republic.
