Legal source: The federal government is preparing to veto the budget schedules
Today, Wednesday, legal expert Mosaddeq Adel favored the Federal Court’s vote on the unconstitutionality of the budget schedules, attributing this to the appeals submitted by the representatives.
Adel said in a press statement, “The appeals submitted by members of the House of Representatives to the Federal Court regarding the budget schedules are valid, and the Federal Court is likely to vote on their unconstitutionality,” pointing out that “failing to read the budget schedules first and second readings made them vulnerable to legal violations.”
He added, "The coming days will witness many changes because most of the representatives are dissatisfied with voting on several projects within the budget schedules that have a lot of noise, most notably the Basra-Aqaba pipeline project."
He stated that "most of the representatives submitted complaints to the Federal Court about the financial allocations to the governorates because they do not meet the actual need of their governorates."
An American network announces the cessation of attacks on restaurants in Iraq
Today, Wednesday (June 12, 2024), the Voice of America network announced the “cessation” of the “sabotage” attacks that targeted a group of American restaurants and cafes in Baghdad over the past weeks, praising the “performance” of the Iraqi security authorities.
The network said, according to what Baghdad Today translated, that last week witnessed a “lack” of attacks committed by “masked gunmen” against American restaurant and café chains in the capital, Baghdad, explaining, “After the arrest of a group of them, last week witnessed a complete cessation of attacks.” .
The network also confirmed that the cessation of the attacks “reflected positively” on foreign investment opportunities in Iraq, explaining that the continuation of these attacks led to a “decline” in the desire of foreign investors to work in Iraq.
The network also indicated that two officials from the "Iraqi factions" confirmed to the Associated Press last Friday that the attacks that targeted the restaurants were carried out by "loyalists" to those factions. It also made clear that the Vice President of the US Chamber of Commerce for Middle East Affairs, Anthony Pfaff, accused the "Party of God” was behind the attacks, “exploiting” the anger of the Iraqi masses at the American support provided to Israel, according to his description.
It is noteworthy that the American restaurant and cafe chains operating in Iraq have been subjected during the past weeks to “targeting and sabotage operations” carried out by “armed and masked groups,” according to the network’s description, which confirmed that these attacks “stopped” after the Iraqi government arrested eight elements accused of participating in these attacks. They were formally charged under the anti-terrorism law.

After the recent jumps...a reading of the future of dollar prices after UNAMI leaves Iraq
Today, Wednesday (June 12, 2024), Professor of Economics at Diyala University, Ali Douai, presented an economic reading about the parallel market for the dollar and the slight increase in the exchange rate during the past 48 hours .
Douai said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The rise in exchange rates in the parallel market during the past 48 hours is not a worry and will remain within a circle of decrease or increase with a ceiling of $2. That is, it will remain within the safe circle according to our expectations and readings of the scene in general."
He added, "Internal and external variables affect the parallel market in Iraq, and the economic outlook links events to the political track as an influential factor."
He pointed out that "the departure of the UNAMI mission gave a feeling that Baghdad will emerge from international guardianship, and this strengthens confidence in the Iraqi dinar, in addition to the policies of the Central Bank having an impact, but the dollar will remain within a safe range, away from the difficult changes that it has gone through for months, and by which the poor classes were affected by it." Its reflection on prices in the markets.
He pointed out that "Iraq is currently led by a services government and it seeks, according to economic paths, to build paths that contribute to financial stability," noting that "parallel market prices are not worrying and their variables will remain within a slight range."
After many weeks of the dollar's decline at levels hovering around 1,450 dinars per dollar, exchange rates rose over the past two days to about 1,465 dinars per dollar, by between 15 and 20 points, while specialists attribute this to the approaching Eid holiday and the possibility of an increase in travel trips, leading to an increase in demand. On the dollar.

Iraq seeks to attract foreign investment by amending its laws
The Iraqi Parliamentary Investment Committee aims to amend some investment laws during the next legislative term, with the aim of attracting foreign investments and capital.
According to committee member, Dhia al-Hindi, representatives of the World Bank Group working in investment and private projects were hosted to discuss some paragraphs of laws on investment, which are considered in opposition to sustainable development in Iraq, including the investment law and the company law.
Al-Hindi explained that representatives of the World Bank cited the experiences of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where the foreign investor in those countries has the right to own and manage the company by 100%, while his share in Iraq is limited to only 49%.
Al-Hindi called for amending some paragraphs of the law to create an attractive environment for investors and capital, noting that amending laws is within the jurisdiction of Parliament, while the laws governing the economic process remain “socialist.”
Al-Hindi stressed that the committee is continuing to amend the commercial arbitration and investment laws, and approve the industrial investment and mineral investment law.
Al-Hindi stated that the committee will address the government regarding amending some paragraphs of the investment law to be subjected to study in the State Shura Council, and then sent to Parliament.
These efforts come within the framework of Iraq's efforts to strengthen its economy and attract foreign investments, especially in light of the economic crises it is experiencing.
It is expected that the amendments to the laws will contribute to improving the investment environment in Iraq and attract more foreign investments and capital, which will contribute to the development of the Iraqi economy and create new job opportunities

Calls for regulating revenues and improving financial management while adjusting the price of oil in Iraq
Iraq is witnessing a discussion about the need to improve the organization of public revenues and control the various sources of resources for the federal budget, especially with the recent adjustment of the selling price of crude oil from $70 to $80.
- xpanding and organizing revenue sources: Financial and economic specialists see the need to expand public revenue sources and organize them better, instead of relying heavily on revenues from the sale of oil.
- Adopting a weighted crude oil selling price: Experts suggest adopting a weighted crude oil selling price based on its price in global markets according to a specific standard equation.
- Adopting an equilibrium selling price for crude oil: It is also proposed to adopt an equilibrium selling price for crude oil based on the balance matrix between the function of public revenues and public expenditures according to a specific standard equation.
- Cancellation or amendment of the Ministry of Finance’s decision: Some experts call for canceling or amending the Ministry of Finance’s decision regarding amending the selling price of crude oil, while emphasizing fairness and transparency in the distribution of revenues.
The position of the Parliamentary Finance Committee:
- The necessity of discussing the amendments in Parliament: The rapporteur of the Parliamentary Finance Committee believes that the issue should be returned to the House of Representatives to discuss any changes in the budget, especially those related to the price of oil.
- There is no need to change the estimated price: He believes that the price of oil is still high, and there is no need to change the estimated price, especially with its impact on the existing deficit.
- Fiscal deficit: It confirms that the current fiscal deficit exceeds 64 trillion Iraqi dinars, which is much higher than the permissible legal ceiling (3% of GDP).
good news right?
A plan to complete the final accounts.. What is it?
The Federal Office of Financial Supervision announced today, Thursday, the development of a systematic plan with specific completion dates for the final accounts for the remaining previous years.
The Deputy Head of the Bureau, Qaiser Ghazi Zaghir, said in a press statement that “there are many problems in the state’s final account, including the financial statements submitted by the Ministry of Finance.”
Zaghir added, “The Ministry of Finance collects all the final statements of the ministries and later sends them to the Bureau of Financial Supervision,” noting that “there are some obstacles in submitting the data, unifying them, and sending them to the Bureau.”
He pointed out that “relentless efforts were made in coordination between the Financial Supervision Bureau and the Ministry of Finance and under direct guidance by the Prime Minister, and more than one meeting was held between the Ministry, the Bureau and the relevant authorities, and a systematic and specific plan was developed with a specific completion date for the final accounts for the remaining years, as for the final accounts of the ministries individually.” It will continue to be approved for several years until 2023.”
He pointed out that “the last final account was approved in the 2014 budget, and the final account for the year 2015 was also sent to the Council of Ministers to be sent to the House of Representatives, and the final account for 2016 was also completed, and the Bureau is now working on auditing the final account for the year 2017.”

Retroactively... filing a lawsuit against the Ministry of Finance over the 2023 budget
Maysan Council member Hussein Al-Maryani confirmed today, Thursday (June 13, 2024), that a lawsuit had been filed against the Ministry of Finance due to an article in the 2023 Budget Law.
Al-Maryani said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Article (2/First/5/B) of Budget Law No. (13) of 2023, which stipulates (when the selling price of one barrel of crude oil increases over the price fixed in the Budget Law) 30% of the increase in the price difference will be allocated to pay the late dues to the governorates.)
He added, “The price of a barrel of oil in the budget was $70, but the government sold oil at around $79, meaning there is an increase of up to $9 for each barrel, and the law is clear in its text about allocating 30% of the increase to pay the provinces’ dues.”
He pointed out that "30% of the provinces' dues, including Maysan, were not paid, which prompted us to file a lawsuit in the Federal Court against the Ministry of Finance for violating the text of the above-mentioned article to recover our rights."
The government set the price of a barrel of oil in the 2023 budget at $70, but it sold it for around $80, a price that was also fixed in the current year’s 2024 budget.
The UAE imports “rare” oil shipments from Iraq and Saudi Arabia
expansion?
Data published by the Washington-based Energy Research Unit showed that the UAE imported two shipments of Iraqi crude with an amount of one million barrels each during the months of April and May 2024, in addition to a Saudi shipment of direct fuel oil.
This is the first time that the UAE has imported Iraqi crude oil in at least two years. Regular monthly data did not show any seaborne crude imports from January 2022 until March 2024, according to the Energy Research Unit.
Iraqi oil to the UAE
Total shipments of Iraqi oil to the UAE during the month of May amounted to approximately 32.2 thousand barrels per day of crude, while in April they amounted to approximately 33.33 thousand barrels per day, according to data published by the Energy Research Unit.
The two shipments of Basra Heavy crude came through the Iraqi Basra Terminal to Abu Dhabi via the tanker Spyros, according to Bloomberg data.
The UAE imported crude oil and condensates from several other countries during the month of May, most notably Sudan, Qatar and Russia, according to data from Kpler, which specializes in tracking the movement of ships around the world.
The total shipments of Sudanese oil exported to the UAE by sea during the past month amounted to approximately 44 thousand barrels per day, while from Qatar they amounted to approximately 23.4 thousand barrels per day.
On the other hand, the quantities of crude oil coming from Russia by sea amounted to approximately 19.73 thousand barrels per day during last May, according to detailed data published by the Energy Research Unit.
A Saudi shipment arrived in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE imports crude oil and condensates from countries other than these, most notably Cameroon, Argentina, and Australia. It also imports crude oil from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from time to time in small quantities.
The country's total imports of crude oil (from all countries) amounted to approximately 95.98 thousand barrels per day during the month of May, a decrease of 8% compared to the same month in 2023, according to the Energy Research Unit.
Data show that Abu Dhabi has already imported 15.6 thousand barrels per day on average of Saudi oil during the first two months of the current year (2024).
In detail, the total shipments of Saudi crude oil to the UAE during last January amounted to approximately 10.5 thousand barrels per day, and then the number doubled during the following month (February) to reach 20.7 thousand barrels per day.
Kpler data did not show any Saudi crude imports transported by sea to the Emirates during the following months until May 2024, but the American Bloomberg Agency says that a Saudi shipment was actually transported to Abu Dhabi last month on the back of the tanker “Spirus”, which was used to transport Iraqi oil from Iraqi Basra station during the same month.
Bloomberg did not mention the quantity of the shipment, only pointing out that it was a rare shipment of direct fuel oil, which is an intermediate material used to improve treatment processes within the refining system with the aim of increasing productivity of light materials.
The Energy Research Unit believes that this shipment is among the exports of Saudi petroleum products that arrive in the UAE on a regular monthly basis, especially since direct fuel oil is an intermediate material.
Kpler data indicate that the UAE has already imported 135.9 thousand barrels per day of Saudi oil products during the month of last May, and 127.8 thousand barrels per day during the previous month of April.
The same data also shows that Abu Dhabi imported 360.7 thousand barrels per day of Iraqi oil products during last May, and 279.2 thousand barrels per day during the previous month.
Heavy oil processing plan The
recent UAE purchases of Basra Heavy crude come within the framework of a plan aimed at processing heavy and cheaper oil crudes produced by neighboring countries with the aim of reselling them in the markets and benefiting from the price difference.
The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, recently completed the modernization of the Ruwais refinery (capacity 837 thousand barrels per day) for this purpose, as the refinery has become capable of processing a wide range of high-value oil crudes of various grades and densities.
The UAE's plan to process heavy oil types and benefit from their price differences seems closer to the experience of the United States, which designed its refineries a long time ago to deal with the cheaper heavy grades coming from neighboring countries such as Canada, Venezuela, and others, while exporting its light sweet crude at an additional premium to the markets instead of consuming it locally.
Abu Dhabi is not alone in thinking about preparing its refineries to process heavy oils. The Omani Duqm Refinery plans to start this type of refining before the end of 2024, according to the Energy Research Unit.

Experts: The budget deficit is not real
Specialists in financial and economic affairs have suggested improving the organization of public revenues to control the various sources of resources for the federal budget based on the sale of the price of crude oil, which was recently adjusted from $70 to $80, to support the directions of the government program, sustain economic and social development programs and projects, and reduce the planned budget deficit.
The academic researcher in financial affairs and development, Aqeel Jabr Ali Al-Muhammadawi, explained that there is no escape from adopting a strategy for national economic advancement and putting economic and social development plans and programs into practice and implementation by expanding and well-organizing the composition of public revenues and controlling the sources of various resources that enhance the federal budget to support the directions of The government program, sustainability of economic and social development programs and projects, and reducing the planned budget deficit.
Al-Mohammadawi added, in an interview with Al-Sabah, that the executive authority should adopt a package of policies in reform and structural adjustment of public financial management in government institutions to correct imbalances in the federal budget, indicating that objective, scientific, professional and institutional solutions should be found aimed at building a solid financial methodology for the state by adopting a price. Selling new crude oil is weighted based on its price in global markets according to a specific standard equation, in addition to adopting the equilibrium selling price of crude oil based on the balance matrix between the function of public revenues and public expenditures according to a specific standard equation. Research suggested canceling or amending the decision of the Ministry of Finance regarding the decision to amend the selling price of crude oil by a decision of the Council of Ministers through a recommendation from the General Authority to monitor public revenue allocations and achieve justice in distribution in accordance with the principles of justice and transparency.
For his part, the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Finance Committee for the fourth session, Dr. Ahmed Al-Saffar, saw the necessity of returning to the House of Representatives to discuss any variables in the budget, indicating that a special parliamentary session could be held to vote on changing the price of oil, which is one of the basics of building the budget, pointing out that if the government intends To change the price, a draft law must be presented showing the justifications and reasons for changing the price of crude oil from $70 to $80, or there must be a study by the Finance Committee.”
Al-Saffar explained, in an interview with Al-Sabah, that amending the price of oil in the budget will lead to a change in the entire budget, given that it represents the main resource for the state’s general budget, indicating that he does not find it necessary to change the estimated price because the price of oil is still high and the change will affect The size of the deficit exists outside the supposed legal allowance.
Al-Saffar stated that according to the Financial Management Law, the budget deficit does not exceed 3 percent of the gross domestic product, which means 13 trillion, while in reality it is more than 64 trillion, pointing out that although the deficit is imaginary, it remains outside the allowance found in the Administration Law. Finance.
Sudani Contains New Wave of Protests in Southern Iraq
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani managed to avert a new wave of protests that were on the verge of erupting in central and southern provinces, said several local observers.
Leader of Iraq’s Ansar al-Marjaiya faction Hamid al-Yasiri had last week called for protests against corruption to be held in the city of Samawah in the southern al-Muthanna province.
He also called on Sudani to “dispatch” an honest military ruler to run al-Muthanna.
Iraqi people in under-serviced regions have started to complain of power cuts as temperatures start to soar in the country. Al-Muthanna is Iraq’s least populated and most impoverished, with nearly 50 percent of the population living in poverty, according to official figures.
Sudani received on Sunday Yasiri and 20 academic and tribal figures from al-Muthanna to discuss their concerns.
A statement from the PM’s office said the delegation explained the state of affairs in the province, the performance of the local government, rampant corruption and the high cost of projects.
Sudani stressed: “Restoring the trust of the people in the political process is among our most important challenges. The legitimacy of any political system lies in its ties to its people.”
In an apparent response to Yasiri’s request for the appointment of a military ruler in al-Muthanna, Sudani said: “The provincial councils were formed through elections and everyone must respect the choices of the people.”
The PM ordered the formation of a committee from the Commission of Integrity to visit al-Muthanna and follow up on complaints about corruption and the waste of public funds.
In his call for protests, Yasiri had demanded the “expulsion” of corrupt officials from office, namely the provincial governor and council, whom he said “don’t represent the masses and only work for their parties.”
In a statement after his meeting with Sudani, Yasiri said an agreement was reached to “form a committee from the PM’s office to oversee all projects in Samawah city and to prevent the governor and members of the provincial council from handling the funds.”
He said representatives of protests in al-Muthanna will oversee all projects in the provinces in line with an order that will be issued by the prime minister.

Arab and foreign media, heads of Arab media institutions, and international organizations concerned with journalism and media, in addition to preparing all the logistical and technical requirements for holding the celebrations.
The Iraqi Journalists Syndicate will begin receiving well-wishers at its headquarters in Karrada Maryam and receiving congratulatory telegrams starting next Saturday morning, while the Syndicate branches festival will be held on the twenty-ninth of this month in Abu Nawas Gardens. The official celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, the thirtieth of June. At the Al Rashid Hotel, under the auspices of the Prime Minister, in addition to the public celebration at the Cultural and Social Center, One Thousand and One Nights, as well as hosting meetings of the General Secretariat of the Arab Journalists Union.
According to the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Muayyad Al-Lami, the celebration of the National Day of the Iraqi Press this year will be the largest and most extensive in the history of the union since its founding in 1959, stressing the importance of showing the bright image of Iraq and the major reconstruction campaign that the country is witnessing in front of the Arab and foreign media delegations that will participate in the press family’s celebrations this year.
Celebrating Iraqi Press Day must mean reviewing the long journey of Iraqi journalists over those long years, which was characterized by giving, excellence, and defending their country, Iraq, its gains, and its future through media coverage, as well as conveying its bright image to the world.
It is certain that the occasion and the distinguished presence of representatives of major press and media institutions will be a golden opportunity to learn about the new Iraqi reality of construction, progress and stability. These celebrations will be an expression of the bright picture of stability, sophistication, development and prosperity that Iraq is witnessing, and the major reconstruction campaigns launched by the government in all fields and what has been achieved. Achievements and gains for Iraqi journalists and the victory that was achieved due to the great sacrifices with which the Iraqis watered their land with abundant blood. Journalists played a prominent role in this blood, sacrifice and giving.
In order to shed light on the emergence of the Iraqi press, we must return to the date of June 15, 1869, the date of the birth of the oldest Iraqi newspaper, Al-Zawraa, the first issue of which was published in difficult circumstances, as Iraq was subject to Ottoman control and the country was suffering from widespread illiteracy among its people. The state of poverty and deprivation is widespread throughout society.
The story of the Iraqi press begins with the appointment of the governor, Medhat Pasha, to Iraq. He brought with him a printing press from Paris and began printing the newspaper there. He then established an industrial school in Baghdad, and among its goals was to fill the printing press’s need for technical and salary workers. The main goal of the newspaper was to restore confidence. The gap between the citizen and the authority. The appearance of this newspaper represents a prominent turning point in the transition to civilized life and progress that was accelerating in the world, especially in Europe.
Al-Zawraa is an official newspaper founded by the writer Ahmed Medhat Effendi, who was at the same time the first to assume the editorship of it. After him, Izzat Al-Farouqi, Ahmed Al-Shawi Al-Baghdadi, Taha Al-Shawaf, Muhammad Shukri Al-Alusi, Abdul Majeed Al-Shawi, and Jamil Sidqi Al-Zahawi took over. .
Al-Zawraa was concerned with publishing news mainly related to internal and external affairs, in addition to publishing decrees and articles on cultural, political, and health affairs. It also focused on criticizing the phenomenon of corruption in the performance of government departments, and Al-Zawraa is considered an important historical source for evaluating the prevailing political and social conditions in Iraq during that period.
According to historians, Al-Zawraa was published with four pages of medium size, although some historians of the Iraqi press have said that it was published with two or eight pages. However, the issues of the published newspaper indicate decisively that its publication was four pages, even though Al-Zawraa was published in one form. Exceptionally, in some periods, more than four pages. In general, the four pages of Al-Zawraa were divided into two parts: two pages in Turkish and two pages in Arabic, and the two Arabic pages were literal translations of the two Turkish pages. It was sometimes published in the Turkish language only, and this may be due to the lack of an Arabic editor in that period or to the ruling administration’s indifference to the Arabic edition and thus to the audience for whom that edition was published.
The governor of Baghdad, who was from the Sultanate of the Ottoman Empire, as Iraq was subject to about 400 years of Ottoman rule from the year 1535 until the year 1917, made it the mouthpiece of the state, and it continued to be published for 48 years until the total number of issues issued reached (2607) issues, with the last issue issued in 11 / March / 1917 It remained the only newspaper in Baghdad until the issuance of the Ottoman Constitution in 1908 AD, when several Arabic-language newspapers appeared in Iraq.
During the nineteenth century, the Mosul newspaper was published in the city of Mosul on June 25, 1885, and was stopped more than once and permanently in 1934. As for the third newspaper published in Iraq, it was the newspaper “Basra”, which was issued in the state of Basra on December 31, 1889, and it was the mouthpiece of the Ottoman government, like its predecessor. This was during the rule of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, and this newspaper stopped after the British forces occupied the city in 1914. As for the first magazine established in Iraq that was not governmental, it was the magazine “Wreath of Roses”, which was issued by the Dominican fathers in Mosul in December 1902 and continued to be published until 1909.
After the announcement of the Ottoman Constitution in 1908, the freedom granted by the constitutional coup was available in issuing publications, as many newspapers and magazines appeared in Baghdad and the rest of the provinces. Perhaps the Baghdad newspaper was the first newspaper issued by the private sector to its owner, Murad Bey, on August 6, 1908. It expressed the mouthpiece of the Union and Progress Party. It was published three times a week and in both Arabic and Turkish. Then, Abdul-Jabbar Al-Khayyat published Al-Iraq newspaper on January 1, 1909, and it was published in both Arabic. And Turkish too.
The period of the British occupation of Iraq included the first establishment phase of the Iraqi press, which was established by the Ottoman authorities, governed it with their own laws and regulations, and marked it with their own characteristics. Instead, a press was created that was subject to the direction of British policy and interests in the region.
One of the first acts undertaken by the British when they occupied Basra in 1914 was to confiscate the state’s official printing press and purchase private printing presses in order to have the exclusive use of the press, which was the primary means of communication in Iraq at that period. Their goal was to win Iraqi public opinion in a direction that was consistent with their occupation, so they issued a daily bulletin in Arabic and English that included news of battles on the battle fronts from the British point of view. This bulletin later turned into a newspaper called (The Visual Times), which was the first newspaper issued by the British occupation forces and was not limited to The British dominated not only printing and the press, but they also established cinemas and provided them with cinematic and news tapes that broadcast propaganda for Britain.
The occupation forces intended to use newspapers to address the Iraqi masses and convey to them what they wanted since the first days of their occupation of the various regions. The newspaper Al-Awqat Al-Basra was published in three languages: English, Arabic and Persian. The British named the newspaper Al-Awqat (TIMES) similar to the traditional naming of some of their newspapers in Britain.
When the British occupied Baghdad in 1917, the famous Al-Zawraa newspaper stopped, and they issued Al-Arab newspaper on July 4, 1917, after preparing the requirements for its printing. This was announced under its masthead as “an Arab political, historical, and urban news newspaper whose principle and purpose of establishment in Baghdad is Arabs for the Arabs.”
It is noted that the British deliberately promoted the newspaper as being Arab, starting with its name and ending with the fact that it is Arab in principle and purpose, and that its editors are Arabs and its readers are Arabs, and they tried to avoid linking it directly to them so that the public would not be alienated from it.
As the volume of journalistic work increased and expanded with the increase in the number of published newspapers and those working in them, and to guarantee their rights, journalists began to think seriously about creating an organization that would protect their rights and guarantee part of their freedom, which must intersect with the authority of the rulers and governors. However, all attempts to establish a journalists’ union failed as a result of the insistence of the British occupier and the monarchy after him. ..
After the revolution of July 14, 1958, the overthrow of the monarchy, and the establishment of the republican regime, Iraq took great steps towards forming federations and professional unions as a result of positive developments in the political, economic, social, cultural and journalistic fields, and opened the door wide for the establishment of unions, associations and professional organizations in a way that Iraq had never witnessed. like in the past.
With this new reality that the country witnessed, 45 journalists met at the Lawyers Club in Baghdad, and they discussed the project to establish a journalists’ union, and they agreed to choose a founding committee that included 11 journalists to prepare the initial arrangements for the project and obtain official approvals. They are: Muhammad Mahdi Al-Jawahiri, owner of the newspaper ( Public Opinion), Youssef Ismail Al-Bustani from (Ittihad Al-Shaab) newspaper, Abdullah Abbas, owner of (Al-Ahali) newspaper, Abdul Majeed Al-Wandawi, editor-in-chief of (Al-Ahali) newspaper, Saleh Suleiman from (Sawt Al-Ahrar) newspaper, Faeq Butti, owner of (Al-Bilad) newspaper, and Musa Jaafar Asad. , from the newspaper (Al-Thawra), Hamza Abdullah from the Kurdish newspaper (Khe Bat), Saleh Al-Haidari, also from the newspaper (Khe Bat), Hamid Rashid, a professional journalist, and Abdul Karim Al-Saffar, also a professional journalist.
In 1959, the first Syndicate of Journalists was officially formed, and the poet Muhammad Mahdi Al-Jawahiri assumed its duties as the first president of the Syndicate of Iraqi Journalists.
Finally, journalism remains the only profession in which a true journalist cannot entertain himself because he is a slave to his profession. It is an exhausting profession, and all it involves is effort, sacrifice, and giving. This is the approach of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, whose banner today is ably carried by our colleague Muayyad Al-Lami./
