Iraqi factions are preparing to exploit the Republicans' loss... Will al-Zaidi face new pressures?

The head of the Center for Political Thought, Ihsan Al-Shammari, offered an analysis of the repercussions of the Republican Party's loss in the US midterm elections on the Iraqi political scene, considering that the shift in the balance of power within Washington may give Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi's opponents an opportunity to pressure his government and rearrange influence within the coordination framework.

Al-Shammari said in a post on the “X” platform that “the loss of US President Donald Trump and the Republicans will most likely push al-Zaidi’s opponents to exploit the next stage by tightening restrictions on his executive performance and not dealing with the requirements of the White House administration or circumventing them.”

He added that "these forces may move to halt the understandings between al-Zaydi and the American envoy Tom Barrack, and end the 'arms regulation' project, as well as strengthen their influence within the coordination framework at the expense of the Prime Minister's allies."

Al-Shammari warned that "these developments may reopen scenarios of confrontation, and the resulting repercussions and costs for the Iraqi government."

Disarmament negotiations reach a "near-dead end," and a close associate of al-Zaydi warns of a "confrontation."

Disarmament negotiations reach a "near-dead end," and a close associate of al-Zaydi warns of a "confrontation."

A government source close to Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi revealed on Thursday that negotiations regarding the disarmament of armed factions have reached a near-dead end, warning of the possibility of media escalation spilling onto the streets and impacting the security situation.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that "the dialogue regarding the disarmament of the factions has reached a near-closed road, in light of the factions' continued refusal to hand over their weapons," noting that this prompted them to resume media escalation against Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi and his government, as well as against the coordinating framework that is negotiating with them through a specialized committee.

He warned that continued media escalation could push the confrontation from political statements and positions to the street, which could have repercussions on the security situation.

He added that influential parties within the coordination framework have, in the past few hours, made moves and contacts to calm the situation and contain the escalation between all parties, in an attempt to prevent the disputes from worsening.

This comes after Abu Mujahid al-Assaf, the security official of the Hezbollah Brigades, directed criticisms at the government and direct questions to the leaders of the Coordination Framework on Tuesday regarding political, security and economic files, including oil sales contracts with the Emirati company “ADNOC”, as well as accusing the government of not fulfilling its promises.

Al-Assaf pointed out that the "Islamic Resistance" is still waiting for a copy of the agreement signed with the Coordinating Framework Committee, while confirming that it has stopped carrying out any military operations inside Iraq until further notice.

An informed source revealed to Shafaq News Agency last Tuesday that some members of the four-member committee tasked with negotiating with the factions, including Badr Organization leader Hadi al-Amiri, were displeased with Prime Minister Ali al-Zubaidi’s interference in the negotiations by holding separate meetings with leaders of factions that refuse to hand over their weapons, fearing that these moves would have the opposite effect.

The source explained at the time that the committee had made progress in its dialogues and that it was committed to completing its mission by the end of June 2027, while new information indicates the continuation of disagreements that are hindering reaching a final settlement.

The issue of restricting weapons to the state is one of the most prominent contentious issues between the government and armed factions, as factions, including Kataib Hezbollah, Harakat al-Nujaba and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada, have previously announced their refusal to relinquish their military capabilities.

These developments coincided with the announcement by the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Qaani, on Wednesday, that the leaders and members of what Tehran calls the “Resistance Front” had declared in writing their “absolute loyalty” following the directives of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, regarding dealing with the enemy without geographical restrictions, stressing that they had received the message at the highest level and had begun to act on its content.

Last Saturday, Khamenei issued directives to senior Iranian military commanders to respond immediately to any potential threat without geographical restrictions.

In another message marking the anniversary of November 4, Khamenei praised what he called the achievements of the "resistance front" in Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Yemen, stressing the importance of "unity of arenas" and warning that any new American attack on Iran would be met with a broader military response.

In contrast, al-Zaydi’s moves to restrict weapons to the state are supported by several Shiite political parties, most notably the Shiite National Movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr, the Wisdom Movement headed by Ammar al-Hakim, as well as Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq led by Qais al-Khazali and the Imam Ali Brigades, which announced steps to sever their armed formations’ ties to party frameworks and subject them to the authority of the state.

This approach also enjoys declared American support, as the US State Department had previously confirmed to Shafaq News Agency its support for al-Zaidi’s efforts to extend state sovereignty, confiscate weapons, and prevent armed attacks, while the White House stressed the need to transfer the factions’ weapons to the federal government, amid continuing internal disputes regarding the conditions for handing over weapons and the guarantees required to implement the operation.

Iranian Ambassador to Shafaq News: Iraq is an active partner in shaping the features of the new regional order

On Thursday, the Iranian ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadegh, stressed the importance of the role that Baghdad can play in building a new regional system based on cooperation and integration among the countries of the region, and achieving self-sufficiency at the security and political levels, in light of the transformations taking place in the regional and international balance of power.

Al-Sadiq told Shafaq News Agency that "strengthening cooperation and integration among the countries of the region, especially through the active role of a country like Iraq, would contribute to consolidating a path for regional rapprochement and achieving security and political self-sufficiency within the regional system in West Asia."

He added that the current regional order and international developments indicate that what he called "hegemonic powers" are facing increasing challenges in imposing their dominance over different regions of the world.

The Iranian ambassador considered that the ongoing transformations reflect a change in the international balance of power, noting that the powers that previously sought to influence the Iranian political scene are now, in his words, facing a different reality in which their calculations are affected by the decisions of the Islamic Republic.

He pointed to the marches that took place in Iranian cities on November 4, stressing that they expressed support for the Iranian regime and rejection of American policies, while describing anti-imperialism as one of the fundamental principles of the Islamic Republic.

Al-Sadiq’s remarks came after a message issued by Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Wednesday, in which he spoke about the role of the so-called “resistance front” in Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Palestine, considering that what this front is achieving, along with the military transformations in the region, represents the beginning of a path towards a new world order.

In his message on the occasion of the National Day of Combating Arrogance, Khamenei warned that any new American attack on Iran would be met with a broader military response, stressing that his country would not back down in the face of American pressure, and that a change in the ruling parties in Washington does not necessarily mean a change in its policies towards Tehran.

Following Khamenei’s message, the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Qaani, announced that the leaders and members of what he called the “resistance front” had expressed their absolute loyalty to the directives issued by the Iranian Supreme Leader regarding confronting enemies without geographical boundaries.

Qaani said that the leaders of the front received Khamenei’s message at the highest level and worked to implement his directives, pointing to the demonstration of unity between the different battlefields.

The Houthis announce targeting Riyadh airport and issue a warning to airlines.

The military spokesman for the Yemeni Ansar Allah group (Houthis), Yahya Saree, announced on Wednesday evening that Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, was targeted with a ballistic missile, indicating that the hit "was direct and caused significant damage" to the airport, according to him.

Saree added in a post on the “X” platform, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, that “Khalid International Airport is unsafe,” reiterating his call to all international airlines, employees and travelers “not to travel through Saudi airspace as it is unsafe, with the exception of the  airspace of the holy areas in Mecca and Medina.”

The spokesman for the coalition forces supporting legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced on Tuesday evening the interception and destruction of a drone in the Eastern Province, a day after the interception and destruction of a drone in Mecca, and before that the interception and destruction of two drones in the Riyadh region and a ballistic missile in the Southern Province last Sunday.

These developments come amid an escalation of Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia since July 2026, which intensified last October, with increased missile and drone launches targeting airports, oil facilities, and military sites in the Kingdom.

These developments come amid escalating clashes between the Houthis and Saudi-backed forces in Yemen, coinciding with the expansion of military operations in the southwest of the country, particularly in Taiz province and areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government against the Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sanaa and other provinces since September 2014.

Qaani announces that the "Resistance Front" has responded to Khamenei's orders regarding dealing "without limits" with the enemy.

On Wednesday, Major General Esmail Qaani, commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, announced that what he called the "resistance front" had responded to the orders of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei regarding dealing "without limits with the enemy."

Last Saturday, Khamenei issued directives to senior commanders in the Iranian armed forces to respond immediately to any potential threat "without geographical restrictions."

Qaani said in a statement seen by Shafaq News Agency that “the men of the resistance front” demonstrated, following the message issued by the “Guardian of the Muslims” regarding dealing without limits with the enemy, unity between the regions, through a “written declaration of absolute loyalty.”

He added that the leaders received the message at the highest level and worked to implement it.

On Tuesday evening, the page of Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei posted a picture of the globe with the caption: "Without geographical boundaries."

A victory for Iran or a political coup? The Democrats' win reshuffles the world's cards.

image.png

The Democratic Party's victory in gaining control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the US midterm elections has sparked mixed reactions both inside and outside the United States, amid expectations that the shift in the balance of power in Congress will affect the war with Iran , support for Ukraine, trade policies, and the regulation of the artificial intelligence sector.

In Iraq and Lebanon, pro-Iranian forces and figures treated the Republicans' loss as a "political blow" to President Donald Trump and a popular American rejection of the continuation of the war, while other voices warned against reducing the motives of American voters to the Iranian issue alone.

Iran's allies celebrate

The main Iraqi political forces have not issued official positions on the election results, but circles close to the factions and forces loyal to Tehran considered Trump’s loss a “victory for Iran” and evidence of declining popular support for the war.

Salah Al-Arabi, head of the “Awareness” party, said in a post that Iran “closed the road, not the Strait of Hormuz,” after the defeat of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in reference to the political pressures that the two sides are now facing.

Political analyst Iyad Al-Samawi believes that the Republicans' loss has reduced Trump's military and political maneuvering room, and placed him under stricter oversight from the Democratic-controlled Congress.

In contrast, political activist Hamed Al-Sayed refused to consider the result an Iranian victory, stressing that the war was one of the factors that led to the Republicans' loss, but that the American voter's vote is mainly related to the cost of living, the economy, and domestic issues.

In Beirut, the Iranian embassy said that attempts to subdue Tehran are backfiring politically on their proponents within the United States, while supporters of Hezbollah adopted a similar interpretation, considering the result a rejection of the pressure and confrontation policy pursued by the Trump administration.

Tehran warns against changing positions

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said that American hostility towards his country will not change with a change of party controlling Congress, warning against the belief that the election results will automatically lead to a fundamental change in Washington's policy towards Tehran.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, however, asserted that the Americans had said "no to war," warning the US government against ignoring what he described as the popular will and continuing military operations.

Despite these positions, the transfer of control of Congress to the Democrats does not mean that they have the direct ability to end the war, as the president retains broad powers in foreign policy and military operations, in exchange for Congress’s ability to restrict funding, summon officials, open investigations, and impose stricter political oversight.

European hopes for support for Ukraine

German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul expressed optimism that US support for Ukraine could be strengthened after the Democrats' victory, predicting a return to debate within Congress regarding military and financial aid.

Trump had largely halted direct U.S. aid to Kyiv and eased some sanctions related to Russian energy, despite support for Ukraine among a number of Democratic and Republican lawmakers.

Control of both houses allows Democrats to propose new aid packages, but passing them in the face of Trump's objection would require the support of two-thirds of Congress to override a presidential veto, making a resumption of broad support neither guaranteed nor quick.

In contrast, Moscow said its policy on Ukraine would not change depending on the outcome of the US elections, while the Kremlin expressed hope that Trump's efforts to end the war would continue.

Trade faces "fragile stability"

The Republicans' loss may give Washington's partners more room to resist the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, but the Democrats' ability to change trade policy remains limited because of the president's executive powers and his ability to use the veto.

Analysts believe that China may gain an advantage in trade negotiations, while India may feel relatively comfortable during its stalled negotiations with Washington, especially as New Delhi seeks to protect its agricultural sector.

Although Congress has the authority to regulate trade and set import duties, Trump used national security laws and unfair trade practices to impose duties without consulting it, meaning that changing these policies could face a long legal and political battle.

European officials warned against exaggerating expectations of a rapid change, stressing that American protectionism would not disappear and that Trump would still be able to use his executive tools during the remaining two years of his term.

Pressures on artificial intelligence

Technology markets reacted quickly to the results, amid concerns that the Democratic Congress would impose stricter controls on artificial intelligence companies and the rapid expansion of data center construction.

Shares of Asian chipmakers, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Kioxia, declined, and shares of US data center operators also came under pressure before trading opened.

Investors believe that Democratic control could lead to legislation concerning energy consumption, privacy, and data center costs, which could slow the sector's rapid growth, without necessarily halting support for it as one of the main drivers of the American economy.

International reactions concluded that a Democratic victory would subject Trump to stronger political and legislative oversight, but would not strip him of his executive powers, foreshadowing two years of clashes between the White House and Congress, and making the impact of the results on wars, trade, and technology contingent on the ability of both sides to pass or block legislation.

Muy bien, bienvenidos, bienvenidos. Miren el ojo. Falta el ojo. Bueno, da igual.

0:06
De todas formas, lo corregiré. Mis amigos de FX, eh… esto es lo de hoy.

0:18
Es jueves, 5 de noviembre. Muy bien.

0:21

Yo me baso

1:32

6:28
Así que… no sé… tengo curiosidad. ¿Llamó el presidente de EE.UU. a Ali Z o

6:36
llamó Ali Z a él?

14:01
no, nunca vamos a estar bajo el gobierno”. Así que las fuerzas del PMF, ellas

14:07

Bien. Uno

15:48
favorable y aquí y aquí está. Es el iraní.

15:53
Oh, bueno, ya lo dije. Ese embajador en Irak. No… Él estaba hablando a las

16:00
noticias.

17:17
¿Ha llegado el momento de la transformación?

17:22
Sí, yo digo que sí ha llegado. Muy bien. Así que, como siempre, si quieren apoyar,

17:30
solo den clic, den clic a ese pulgar arriba. Ayuda muchísimo. Y den hype al video. Suban

17:37
el hype. Lo aprecio tanto. Y… eh… voy a decir mi TWW. Gracias. Gracias.

17:45
Gracias.

20:17
aire. ¿Verdad? No sé.

21:18
y no a Irak.

21:21
Bien.

Bien. Muy bien.

27:00
Así que gracias por escuchar.

27:02
Puede que no haga otra actualización hoy. Puede que sí. No sé. No puedo hacer ninguna promesa. Pero esta ya está en los libros.

27:10
¡Yay!

27:27
Y hasta la próxima.
