What does it take to change the dollar exchange rate and return it to the previous? Iraq should follow the example of neighboring countries
link

Today, Wednesday, economic experts considered it difficult to change the exchange rate of the dollar and return it to its previous rate.
Economist Uday Al-Alawi said, according to the official newspaper, that "some of them see that changing the exchange rate is just a digital process that goes up or down," noting that "this change greatly affects the market and the obligations of many who live on selling materials in it."
Al-Alawi added that "it is absolutely not possible to change the exchange rate overnight, because the damages of those decisions that are taken without knowledge are estimated at billions of losses on citizens," noting that "changing the exchange rate requires overlapping processes of continuous preparation of the market that take at least two years."
He explained that "the statements regarding the change in the dollar exchange rate confused the market and stopped many commercial operations, and imposed on families to reduce spending and be satisfied with important goods, despite the fact that workers in the private sector constitute about 80% of society and they are more than directly affected by such statements." .
And he stated, "Any moves in the process of decreasing and raising the exchange rate must be deliberate, because there is a benefit between the merchant and the simple citizen, in addition to the fact that many citizens have converted their transactions to the dollar after decreasing the price of the dinar, which suggests that it is not fixed internally, which causes a change A significant economic situation in the event of a decrease or increase in the exchange rate of the dinar against the dollar.
Al-Alawi linked "the efforts to change the exchange rate on the one hand and the government formation talks on the other hand," noting that "they will be temporary statements and will not go beyond promotion and media marketing."
On the technical level, experts believe that "Iraq should follow the steps of some neighboring countries that have fixed the dollar's exchange rate against its currency for years, even though they do not have any economic data, while the exchange rate in Iraq changes frequently."
On the same level, other blocs, on the other hand, are trying to push economic laws to the House of Representatives, as Hakim al-Zamili, the first deputy speaker of parliament, had announced the Sadrist bloc’s intention to legislate a law to deduct a financial grant from oil revenues to be distributed directly among citizens under the title “People’s Oil Grant.” However, experts and observers pointed out that these endeavors cannot be implemented within the law, as there is a budget deficit estimated at more than 27 trillion dinars.
Observers warn of Iraq's dependence on the current high oil prices, especially that their fluctuations will continue according to market requirements and the consequences of the world's actions regarding the general closure to confront the Corona pandemic.
They stressed the need for there to be alternatives away from oil rents, as this wealth may not last long, and could decrease at any moment, noting that those funds can be invested in establishing infrastructure for industrial cities that can compete with the world.

The Iraqi per capita income rises to about 6 thousand dollars
link

A source in the Iraqi government revealed, on Wednesday, that the average per capita income of Iraq indicated an increase to about 6 thousand dollars during the index for the year 2021.
An individual's share or income, is an economic indicator that measures the degree of economic development in a country and its social impact, and this is done by dividing the value of the gross domestic product by the population.
The government source said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "The average per capita GDP at current prices at the dollar price is approximately 6 thousand dollars during 2021, up from 4.2 thousand dollars in 2020, indicating that" the average per capita share will be close to what Register in 2019".
He added that "the rise in oil prices contributed to the rise in the average per capita GDP," noting that "the average per capita income is calculated by dividing the gross national product over the country's population."
Iraq went through difficult economic conditions as a result of the drop in oil prices, which constitute most of Iraq's financial revenues, forcing the government to reduce the value of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar in order to provide the salaries of employees, while oil prices gradually rose to reach nearly $90.

Highlights of what Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi spoke while presiding over the Cabinet session
The highlights of what Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi spoke while presiding over the cabinet session held today, Tuesday:

I congratulate the heroic security forces that made great efforts during the past week, and achieved victories against terrorist organizations.

We conducted a massive cleansing operation in the Al-Azim area to cleanse the earth of terrorist groups.

Iraqi Air Force hawks carried out strikes targeting several locations of the terrorist organization's hideouts in several remote points, killing a number of them, including important Iraqi and foreign leaders.

During our visit to the border areas in northwestern Iraq, we worked on strict security measures within a tight plan to prevent any infiltration of terrorist cells.

The security and intelligence services have worked to trace the threads of the terrorist operation in Al-Azim, and were able to arrest a number of the terrorist cells involved.

I thank the security institutions and our heroic Iraqi forces, and we assure our people that there is no return to terrorism in the presence of these valiant forces.

Last week witnessed a very unfortunate event, when a group of non-state forces carried out a cowardly terrorist attack on Baghdad International Airport.

These groups have become operating according to the logic of terrorism and are using the same tools and other actions of terrorist groups.

All political forces, with their various political orientations, must unite their words and actions against these groups.

There is no place for terrorism of all kinds, types and forms in Iraq.

This is the Iraq of the greats, the Iraq of peace, the Iraq of safety and security, and the Iraq of cooperation and partnership. We do not allow any party or person to tempt himself to harm his reputation in this random and chaotic way.

Our security forces have followed the threads of the operation and have identified some of the terrorists involved, and they are continuing the investigations, and I assure our great people that all those involved will be arrested and held accountable without exception, and no party, whatever it is, will be able to protect or smuggle criminals.

Statement
Today at dawn, Baghdad International Airport was exposed to a cowardly terrorist act that revealed the criminals' insistence on striking the security of the people of Iraq, their obligations, and their capabilities, and endangering their interests.
The targeting of Baghdad International Airport with missiles, the injury of civilian aircraft, and the damage to the airport runway represents a new attempt to undermine Iraq’s reputation, which we have striven to restore regionally and internationally, and endanger international aviation standards at Iraqi airports and spread an atmosphere of doubts about internal security; The fact that Baghdad International Airport is one of the fronts of the country, as well as undermining the efforts of Iraqi Airways to develop its work and openness and the flight of Iraqi aircraft in all global airspace.
This treacherous terrorist operation comes as an extension of a series of missile or drone attacks on civilian and military facilities of the Iraqi state, and the headquarters of political parties, to express frantic attempts to break the prestige of the state and law and order in front of the non-state forces, undermine the achievements of Iraqi foreign policy, and stab the interests of the people.
The Iraqi security forces, which have taken their full role in providing security and confronting terrorism in all its forms, will have a decisive response to this type of dangerous operation that is supported by agendas that do not want Iraq well.
From my position as Prime Minister of the Council of Ministers of Iraq and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I call upon all forces, parties, political currents, and various actors to express their explicit and clear rejection and condemnation of this dangerous attack, and to support our security forces in their operations against the missile launchers, and silence on this type of targeting has become Criminals consider it a political cover for them.
I call on countries friendly to Iraq, regionally and internationally, not to place restrictions on travel or air transportation to and from Iraq, which constitutes a contribution to deterring terrorism from achieving its goals.

Saleh: I look forward to Sharaf assuming the responsibility of the presidency again
02/02/2022 14:53
Baghdad / Obelisk: The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, announced on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, his candidacy for the position of President of the Republic.
The Obelisk publishes the most prominent statements in President Barham Salih’s speech about his candidacy for the position of President of the Republic:
- He was nominated for the position of President of the Republic after we obtained it by an independent national decision, realizing that it is a great honor and a great responsibility.
- The president of the republic should be a symbol of the country's unity and sovereignty and a protector of the constitution, and he should be the president of all Iraqis, not a subordinate.
- We committed ourselves persistently and with the support of the benevolent patriots, in pursuing my duties under the roof of patriotism, and I did not allow, under any circumstances, despite the various difficulties and pressures, the humiliation of the position of the Presidency of the Republic.
- I tried to keep our country away from entering into a cycle of bloody internal conflicts in difficult times, realizing, after all the lean years, that the time has come for the Iraqis to have peace and a system of government based on its independent national decision.
I come from the mountains of Kurdistan, and from Samawah, the holy Karbala, Salah al-Din, Babylon, Wasit, al-Amarah and Halabja.
- I am confident that constitutional Iraq is the path for our country, and that Baghdad is civilization is the meeting place for everyone, and in it our national issues are resolved, for the strength of Baghdad is the strength of Basra, Anbar, Mosul, and the strength of Kurdistan.
- We succeeded in overcoming many problems and challenges, and we were able to start in Iraq from an address of conflict to an address for the convergence of the countries and peoples of the region, and we will proceed on this path and will not deviate from it and will not back down.
- The new parliament came with early elections in response to a popular youth movement that came against the background of a general feeling of grievances and the urgent need for a rule based on the will of the Iraqis without value, guardianship or interference, and for the people to be their own master.
The expected role of the new House of Representatives is that it must be a free parliament and a true representative of the people's will and aspirations.
Our youth in Basra, Nasiriyah, Najaf, Baghdad, Mosul, Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, Anbar, Kirkuk, Diwaniyah, Dohuk, Diyala and Sinjar share the same aspirations for a decent and free life.
The flaws in the system of governance must be addressed and a new political and social contract that establishes the good governance of a state with full sovereignty that protects the rights of Iraqis, guarantees its right to enforce the law and confines arms to its hands.
- The dangerous scourge of corruption that works to perpetuate itself and influence the will of the Iraqis with the money of the Iraqis requires a decisive pause..
- Fighting corruption is truly a national battle that will not fix the country's situation without winning it. It is based on striking the sources of corruption and recovering what was looted and smuggled.
We submitted a draft law on “recovering corruption proceeds” to the House of Representatives, which includes proactive and deterrent practical measures, and subsequent procedures to recover smuggled corruption funds, and we will work on its approval and implementation.
- The next stage should be the stage of constitutional amendments to items that experience has proven responsible for entrenching crises.
In response to the popular movement and the broad national consensus, the Presidency of the Republic formed an expanded committee of jurists of the Constitution, and submitted a comprehensive paper on the necessary amendments to ensure national reconciliation.
The necessity of achieving transformation in our rentier economy, protecting the Tigris and Euphrates and our natural and environmental resources, and we presented to the Council of Ministers a project to revive Mesopotamia as a national strategy in this regard.

02/02/2022 | 10:50 AM
Member of Parliament Jamal Cougar confirmed, on Tuesday, that the proposal submitted by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hakim Al-Zamili regarding deducting a financial percentage from the federal oil imports and granting it directly to the general public is premature.
Cougar said in an interview seen by / the information /, that "it is premature to make such promises, however, if the first deputy speaker of parliament wants to present this project as a representative of the largest bloc, there are three paths to submitting projects either from the government or through the President of the Republic." or Parliament and its competent committees.
He added, "The executive body has not committed to releasing the petrodollar allocations for the governorates stipulated in the budgets, so how can the next government implement this law if it is approved."
Cougar pointed out that "the economic situation is difficult despite the high oil prices."
