Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with a delegation from Apple on Monday to discuss the country’s digital transformation and potential areas of collaboration.

Al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s ongoing shift towards a digital economy, noting that the High Committee for Digital Transformation, which he chairs, is driving this effort. "Iraq is experiencing significant changes in the digital sphere," he said, adding that the country has become an attractive environment for major international companies, necessitating "rapid digital adaptation."

He emphasized the importance of enhancing digital and technological skills among Iraq’s youth to "expand job opportunities and support government programs aimed at achieving a fully integrated digital system for public services."

The Apple delegation proposed initiatives to support Iraq’s technological growth, including collaboration with universities and training programs for young developers. They also suggested a mobile phone registration system to ensure competitive pricing for devices entering the country.



Iraq offers 100 investment opportunities in November

The Investment Authority revealed the desire of Egyptian companies to enter as partners in the International Development Road project with the aim of establishing this vital corridor, while it will offer 100 investment opportunities at its forum scheduled to be held in early November.
 

The Authority’s spokesperson, Hanan Jassim, said in a press statement that the Authority’s Chairman recently held an extensive meeting with a number of major Egyptian companies, during which they confirmed their desire to enter the local market on a large scale in order to employ Egyptian expertise in the fields of infrastructure, bridges, and electric power, in addition to building residential cities, as well as entering as a fourth partner in the International Development Road project with Turkey, Qatar, and the Emirates with the aim of establishing this vital corridor that shapes the future of the region’s economies for the next stage.

She added that the meeting witnessed an invitation to these companies to attend the investment forum that will be held early next November, during which 100 investment opportunities will be presented in all sectors.

She pointed out that the Authority has granted eight investment licenses in the housing, oil, gas, electricity and tourism sectors since the beginning of this year until now. 

Jassim explained that the residential projects included the Al-Ghazlani residential city in Mosul, covering an area of 4,700 dunums, as well as part of the Karbala City Banks project, covering an area of 100 dunums, in addition to a third project on another part of the Karbala City Banks project, covering an area of 1,400 dunums, in addition to the new Ali Al-Wardi City project in Baghdad, covering an area of 61 million square metres.

She added that the authority granted a special license in the electricity sector for a project to generate electricity through solar energy with a capacity of 1000 megawatts for a French company in Basra Governorate, as it is the first license of this kind within the government’s plan to diversify in the energy sector, in addition to other projects represented by the sustainable Baghdad forests in Rashid Camp, the Bani Omar gas field project in Basra Governorate, as well as another project to complete the axial weighing stations within the plan of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities to protect bridges from large loads.

Jassim pointed out that the investment process in the country has taken a new pattern that will raise the level of services and urban development, noting that the amended Investment Law No. 13 of 2006 is attractive to investors due to the facilities it includes. 


Nasik Bank organizes a workshop on financial inclusion, electronic payment and money laundering

 With the aim of developing the reality of financial inclusion and spreading financial culture, Al-Nasik Islamic Bank for Investment and Finance organized a workshop for employees of government departments on financial inclusion and electronic payment, as well as combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The workshop was attended by the Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Professor Dr. Sadiq Rashid Al Shammari, and the Bank’s Managing Director, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Abdul Latif. Dr. Walid Hamid Rashid, Anas Abdul Hamid, and Maysaa Mohammed Mohsen were present.

The workshop, which was hosted by the seminars and conferences hall at Al-Nasik Islamic Bank for Investment and Finance, was held based on the directives of the Central Bank of Iraq regarding the importance of the aforementioned topics and educating and raising awareness among the largest segment of citizens in light of the government’s orientations to support the culture of electronic payment and expand its use and deliver financial services to the largest segment of society, in addition to defining the importance of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

This course comes as part of the social benefits of companies working towards local communities and providing them with the necessary services. It also touched on the risks that the electronic card holder may be exposed to.

Brochures on banking work and work ethics in banks were distributed to all participants.


New instructions from the Commercial Bank to obtain travel dollars

We would like to inform you that obtaining the dollar currency allocated for travel purposes is done by visiting our bank branches exclusively, which are spread throughout the capital, Baghdad, and Iraq in general, and according to the specified quota for that.

 

This procedure is not done through a link or prior electronic reservation, as the cash dollar is applied for at one of the bank’s branches, and then the cash dollar is received through our bank’s outlet at Baghdad International Airport (Babylon Hall) after completing the departure procedures for the traveler (after crossing the passport stamping area) exclusively.

• Requirements:
1. A valid Iraqi passport with a valid visa or residence permit.
2. A civil status ID and a nationality certificate or a unified national card.
3. A residence card.
4. A valid travel ticket.
5. A pledge not to purchase foreign currency from another party inside Iraq for a period of (one month).
6. The traveler must be of Iraqi nationality and over 18 years of age.

• Purchase mechanism:
1. An amount in Iraqi dinars must be deposited exclusively at our bank branch, provided that the amount in Iraqi dinars is equivalent to the value of the share of the same amount in dollars allocated for travel.
2. The dollar share shall be received exclusively from the Trade Bank of Iraq outlet at Baghdad International Airport (Babylon Hall), and by handing over the deposit slip granted to the customer when the amount was deposited in Iraqi dinars.
3. The maximum period for depositing before the travel date is three (3) days.
4. The dollar shall not be delivered to the traveler until after completing the travel procedure (Boarding pass) and after completing the passport stamping procedures.
5. Our bank outlet at Baghdad International Airport designated for the purpose of delivering travelers' dollars will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This step comes in line with the new mechanism adopted by the Central Bank of Iraq regarding the traveler’s direct review of financial institutions, and the previous mechanism adopted by our bank regarding electronic reservations is cancelled.


Government Advisor: Move to Include Blockchain and Social Media Content Creators in Taxes

Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Tax Reform, Abdul Hussein Al-Anbaky, announced today, Monday, the move to include blockbusters and content creators on social media in taxes.

Al-Anbaky said, "The requirements of tax justice require imposing tax rates on high-income earners, raising the ceilings of tax allowances, and exempting groups whose incomes are below those ceilings."

He stressed the need for "low tax rates for low-income earners who are above those ceilings," noting that "we are in the process of targeting new segments of new professions that generate large incomes that were not subject to tax, including content creators on social media sites."

"The new income tax law, which we have completed drafting, will be business-friendly, achieve justice and stimulate development," he said.

Al-Mandlawi chairs an expanded meeting with the head of the government committee regarding the implementation of Article (140)

An informed source revealed on Monday that the head of the “We Build” coalition, “Head of the Supreme Committee for the Implementation of Article 140 of the Constitution,” Hadi al-Amiri, attended parliament to study the possibility of approving the law “Returning Properties to Their Owners” or not.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, "The head of the Supreme Committee for the Implementation of Article 140 of the Constitution, Hadi Al-Amiri, has been present in the House of Representatives since 1 pm until now."

He added that "Al-Amiri held a meeting immediately upon his arrival to the Council building in the Constitutional Hall with the Acting Speaker of the Council, the Second Deputy Speaker, and the heads of the political blocs, in the presence of members of the Parliamentary Committee and representatives of Kirkuk Governorate."

According to the source, after the meeting ended, it was agreed not to talk to the media about what happened in the meeting, from the agreement regarding voting on the law to return properties to their owners, especially in Kirkuk Governorate.

The source pointed out that "another meeting was held after 3:30 pm today, in the office of the acting head of the council, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, in order to reach an agreement on whether to pass the law or not," without mentioning further details.

In the context, an official statement issued by the House of Representatives, received by the agency, explained that today's meeting with Al-Ameri discussed the results of the work of the government committee, and the completed stages of implementing Article 140 in cooperation with the ministries and relevant authorities.

The statement quoted Al-Mandlawi as confirming that "Kirkuk Governorate enjoys a special status in the draft law to return properties to their owners included in some decisions of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council, and that its stability requires maintaining cooperation between the three authorities, and taking into account the sensitivity of this file by the various political forces."

The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to vote today, Monday, on a draft law concerning the disputed areas, especially Kirkuk, by “returning properties to their owners covered by some decisions of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council.”

The session's agenda also includes the second reading of the draft law amending the Personal Status Law and the general amnesty.

Kurdish MPs and officials say that the draft law concerns properties that are to be returned to their original Kurdish and Turkmen owners, and that were confiscated under 8 decisions issued by the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council during the years from 1975 to 1979, and the aim of which was to carry out demographic changes in the disputed areas.

Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohsen Al-Mandalawi chaired an expanded meeting today, Monday, with the head of the government committee for Article (140) of the Constitution, Hadi Al-Amiri, in the presence of the Deputy Speaker of the Council, Shakha Wan Abdullah, the heads of the parliamentary blocs and committees, and members of the parliamentary committee for Article (140).

According to a statement from his office, received by {Euphrates News}, the meeting discussed the results of the work of the government committee, and the completed stages of implementing Article 140 in cooperation with the ministries and relevant authorities.

Al-Mandlawi stressed that "the Council is keen to legislate laws that would lift the injustice from citizens who were harmed by the decisions of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council and the unjust policies of the defunct regime," adding that "doing justice to the oppressed by restoring their usurped rights contributes to strengthening security, political and social stability."

Al-Mandlawi said, "Kirkuk Governorate enjoys a special status in the draft law to return properties to their owners, which are included in some decisions of the dissolved Revolutionary Command Council, and its stability requires maintaining cooperation between the three authorities, and taking into account the sensitivity of this file by the various political forces."
