Monday, May 14, 2018

Baghdad started taking in Iranian gas on 21 June 2017under an agreement signed by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity. The agreement was signed in 2013 and originally scheduled for a mid-2014 launch, but faced repeated delays over the volatile security situation in Iraq.
Iran-Iraq gas export contract is currently a six-year deal, but it can be extended.d

Iran's Central Bank to Supply Tour Firms With Foreign Exchange
Monday May 14, 2018
The CBI has said that tour operators will have no trouble obtaining the foreign exchange needed for their transaction
Following complaints about the exclusion of travel services from the list of priorities for foreign exchange allocation, the Central Bank of Iran has pledged in a verbal announcement that tour operators will be provided with foreign currency through drafts.
According to Hormatollah Rafiei, head of the Travel Agents Guild Association, CBI forex deputy Ahmad Araqchi has said travel agents that conduct foreign exchange transactions will have no problem in obtaining their required currency and a credit line has even been set up for the purpose.
"However, like other sectors in the list of priorities, these businesses need to have a letter of approval from their authority, i.e. Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization," Rafiei quoted Araqchi as saying in a talk to ISNA.
The official added that no official directive regarding the case has been issued yet, but the CBI has reportedly admitted that there are forex challenges in the tourism sector and has come to agreement with the ICHHTO to address the problem.
After the introduction of the new forex strategy, 11 sets of regulations were issued by the CBI to outline the details of the policy. One of the guidelines determined 33 groups as eligible to receive foreign currency, including outbound tourists and select companies operating hajj and pilgrimage tours.
However, conducting tours to other international destinations was surprisingly left out, raising widespread criticism by tour operators who found themselves on the brink of bankruptcy.
IMF Launching Public, Private Borrowing Database
May 14, 2018
W ith global debt currently at a record high, the International Monetary Fund is launching a database of public and private borrowing across 190 countries–virtually the entire world–dating back to the 1950s.
In April the fund said the global economy was more indebted than before the financial crisis and immediate action needed to be taken before the next downturn. It said worldwide debt now stood at $164 trillion, equal to 225% of global GDP and up from a previous record of 213% in 2009, Reuters reported.
Central banks, which have supported the global economy and encouraged the increase in debt by their cheap borrowing policies, have begun to raise rates, which is likely to start putting pressure on debt-laden consumers and businesses.
Announcing the new breakdown of global debt, which will be unveiled in Washington on Monday, the IMF noted that debt continues to hit new peaks almost a decade after the collapse of Lehman Brothers. With rate increases under way “it is now more important than ever to get a good understanding of who is leveraged and what it means for policymakers,” the fund said.
The IMF said last month that China was responsible for much of the increase in global debt over the past decade–around 40%–with a surge in lending by its commercial banks. However, it warned that developed, emerging market and low-income countries all looked vulnerable. It added that countries that cut budget deficits now would be best placed if financial conditions worsened.
“Decisive action is needed now to strengthen fiscal buffers, taking full advantage of the cyclical upswing in economic activity,” the fund said

5-14-2018 Newshound Guru chattels The news reports are confusing and somewhat conflicted. My best take on the results is that Abadi has about 60 seats and Sadr 51.
5-14-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni Looks PM al-Abadi's political bloc is leading the elections. Let's hope so as this will give us the quickest formation of a new government and continued motivation to make economic changes. Some people do not understand the significance of the elections, a government with the same directive and motivation for change along with proven stability is critical for investor confidence. Remember, confidence is what will drive the dinars value up. A lack of will cause reluctance and a hesitance from investors.

5-13-2018 Newshound Guru chattels Article: "BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s list appears to be leading in Iraq’s parliamentary election, followed by influential Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr’s alliance, an election commission source and a security official told Reuters on Sunday. The sources cited unofficial initial results." Even if Abadi’s Victory Alliance wins the most seats, he still must negotiate a coalition government, which must be formed within 90 days of the election. And, If parliament chooses him as prime minister... The formation of the new government shouldn't be expected until after the Ramadan and Eid holidays, according to Zebari. Ramadan begins on or about May 15 and ends Friday, Jun 15, 2018 with the Eid al-Fitr National Holiday.
5-13-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru BGG The real story out of these elections will be this… It wasn’t about Maliki vs. Abadi that turned out to be the real issue. It was Kurds. The Kurds may well turn out to be the “kingmakers” that some have speculated… but it may not be the “old guard” Kurds (the KDP). It looks like to me – the KDP (the same sh!T bags who were in a hinky, secret alliance with Maliki all along)… look to have gotten blown out this time around. There was a change movement in this election – but it started in Kurdistan. The big numbers seem to have been split between the two (or three) opposition parties, the Goran, the PUK and to a lesser extent the Democracy faction, led by Barham Saleh. It was a stunning day in Iraqi politics!! [post 2 of 2]
5-13-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru BGG Who? What? Why? Iraq’s election (2018) Folks, it is as simple as this… These election results are critical. Even with an outright win by Abadi, it may well take him some time to fully form his next GOI and move things forward. No matter what anyone says, there is still a ways to go. We need to wait and get a true reading on what the fullsome numbers look like once everything is counted…It sounds like Abadi’s faction won a significant number of seats… which is a big deal for Abadi. He will need still help to “form” the next GOI… and he may get it… FROM THE KURDS (and others). [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]

5-13-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat I do not believe that any new Trump sanctions with Iran will block or impact the Iraqi dinar RV. I do strongly believe that, if you waiting for the Iranian Rial to RV along with the Iraqi dinar, you are going to be waiting for a VERY long time...

New self-driving warning
2018/5/14 9:59
[Where - Continue]
A British expert on artificial intelligence warned of the risk of driving autos, stressing that they are not safe and unpredictable, especially when driving in open areas such as forests.
"If you use self-driving cars, you should test them as we test them in the laboratory before putting them on the road," said Demise Hasebis, co-founder of DeepMind, a specialist in artificial intelligence.
In an interview with the Royal Society in London, Hasebis said industrial intelligence may not be suitable for such systems, especially as they pose challenges to road safety.
The British expert, who bought Google for 400 million pounds four years ago, said: "We are fully aware of what the car is doing, but not exactly."
The debate over how cars are self-driving is growing, especially after a series of accidents, prompting US authorities recently to investigate the efficiency of artificial intelligence systems used in these vehicles.
The self-driving system, developed by Tesla in the US Silicon Valley, is being investigated by US safety authorities after two fatal accidents.
Uber suspended the experience of the self-driving system in Arizona, the United States, after providing the Volvo with the technology, causing an accident that killed one person and injured the last infantry in March.
