A possible $ 2 billion contract between Siemens and GE to supply Iraq with electricity

18-10-2018 01:49 PM

The Euphrates -

Siemens is likely to have to share billions of dollars with its rival, General Electric, to develop Iraq's power supply system after an intervention by the administration of US President Donald Trump, the Financial Times said.

The newspaper said, quoting informed sources that the US government intervened in favor of General Electric and put pressure on the Iraqi government.

Although no decision has been made so far, Siemens has been the favorite candidate to win a power supply contract for 11 gigawatts in Iraq in a deal worth about $ 15 billion.

GE, which is facing a severe slowdown in its electricity sector, is now expected to receive a large part of the deal that could be included in its statements when it reports its third-quarter profit on Oct. 30.

General Electric could not be reached for comment. Siemens did not give up hope of winning part of the contract.

"Our talks with the government are continuing and we look forward to entering into a formal agreement to provide reliable electricity at an affordable and sustainable price for Iraq," a Siemens spokesman said.

Siemens chief Joe Kaiser traveled to Iraq in September and spoke with outgoing Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi about the contract.

Adel Abdul Mahdi was then prime minister in Iraq.

US pressure for General Electric increased, the report said.

In February, Siemens offered to build new power plants in Iraq over a four-year period of 11 gigawatts. This increase in production will increase the number of Iraqis with reliable electricity by 50 percent to 23 million.

The Siemens contract could fetch nearly 11 billion euros ($ 12.70 billion) and support its energy sector, which saw a 60 percent decline in profits in the first three quarters of this year.

"The road map of Iraq is one of Siemens' top priorities and we are fully committed to it," a Siemens spokesman said.

"We presented our document of the Iraq Electricity Production Roadmap to the Iraqi government in February. Since then we have held a series of meetings and received a positive response from the government to develop the country's electricity infrastructure. '

I was surprised by a large number of parliamentarians, who are standing in the information department of the Iraqi Council of Representatives presented by a deputy of an Islamic party representing the province of the Middle Euphrates, followed by a statement in which it called for ensuring fair representation in the parliament and its committees and the ministries of state in the next government planned, did not exclude even the security posts that Some of them want to turn their attention to Iraqi women, and this is a justifiable right as it is in other countries in the world.

From the period of nominating MP Sarwa Abdul Wahid for the post of President of the Republic in the face of the Kurdish leader and current President Barham Salih, it seems to recognize that the position is granted only in accordance with the agreement of quotas beyond the granting of the Kurdish component, and beyond that to a specific point, which objected to the Democratic Party, In his objection, he is a position for all Kurds, as it is for all Iraqis.

Of the deputies of the parliament who stood in the information department claims their right to minister, administration, head and hatching voted for Abdul Wahid against Barham Saleh, did not receive the opinion of the party and its component and political group? I am sure that their number is very bleary, and perhaps did not find the sarcophagus of the vote of the women of the parliament where they surrendered to their real capacity, while speaking to the screenwriters: they are free of courage, able to act and influence and theorizing. Sarwa Abdul Wahid found herself alone in the face of the other candidate because everyone agrees to be part of the sectarian and ethnic quotas that killed Iraq, and ripped his body and cut him apart, which gives a real impression to the observers that the responsibility is on television, or newspaper, The current reality Parliamentary women are subject to the dictates of the political bloc and the party, not to their free and conscious will. Sarwa Abdel Wahid is a voice in the Kurdish opposition, and has a unique role to offer to difficult questions, harassment and serious challenges, and paid a high price for these positions, and perhaps it was possible to obtain the political gains rejected, and was worth the women Parliament, and instead of the distribution of jealousy and envy to give their votes to see The extent of solidarity with women in the parliament, and thus their voice becomes heard, and there are officials who respond to them, but to talk about their rights, and solidarity with each other is a hypocrisy.

President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner has likely paid little to no federal income tax for the past several years despite a soaring net worth estimated at more than $300 million, according to a recent New York Times report.

The conclusion was drawn from several experts the Times consulted to review more than 40 pages of confidential documents it received about Kushner's finances from 2009 to 2016.

His unusually low tax burden has been attributed to having a really good tax accountant who took full advantage of where real estate investors like him can offset financial gains by writing off losses citing depreciation of their buildings.

The tax code regarding depreciation assumes that real estate values decline annually, although often property values actually increase. The provision is intended to shield real estate developers from having their investment value decrease from wear and tear on their buildings, but in practice it results in wealth accumulation, not depreciation, to developers.

Despite the finding, the Times notes: "Nothing in the documents suggests Mr. Kushner or his company broke the law. A spokesman for Mr. Kushner's lawyer said that Mr. Kushner 'paid all taxes due.'"

Donald J. Trump, his father, is reported to have paid minimal taxes, even though his net worth is around four billion dollars, over the last twenty years.

The wealthiest people in America are small business owners and real estate investors.

You may love or hate the Trump family but you must admire their tax savvy.

To maximize your wealth do three things:
  1. Have a small business
  2. Invest in real estate
  3. Have a great tax accountant

The yuan was steady after the U.S. Treasury refrained from naming China a currency manipulator in its semi-annual report on foreign-exchange rates, averting an escalation of a trade war. US Treasury Charges Sanctions on Iraqi Company

Editorial Date: 2018/10/19 13:00 • 63 times read

The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on an Iraqi money transfer company accused of providing financial support to the Dahesh organization

The company, dubbed "Dubai Horizons" based in Iraq and has no branch in the UAE, contrary to what may suggest the name, and was classified as a [terrorist] entity, according to a statement by the Treasury.
The company is accused of providing "financial, material and technological assistance" to terrorists.
"The company is part of a complex network of institutions including financial services providers, remittances and others in the Middle East," the ministry said.
"We are targeting this network in agreement with the Ministry of Defense to eliminate the possibility of money laundering and the transfer of illegal funds," said Assistant Treasury Secretary in charge of counterterrorism Sigal Mandelker.
The move comes after a Pentagon decision on Oct. 11 aimed at a financial group that supports a supporter.
The Treasury Department said the steps were part of a broader US effort to target a network of financial services firms that would be able to launch operations in the Middle East.
Last September, the Treasury Department took action against providers of financial facilities linked to the Caribbean and the Middle East, and the Ministry took action against a money exchange group in Syria in December 2016.
The Treasury said two of the funders have been in charge of [Dubai] and since early 2018 the company has been laundering money for the organization and providing funds to families in it.

10-19-2018   Newshound Guru Bloodloch    I noticed some suggestions going around here and there concerning the total of dinars In circulation (currency issued) going from about 150 trillion to 44 trillion dinars as a sign of the CBI's seriousness about their plan to revitalize or reinvigorate their currency, and that got me to thinking. Cutting to the chase, the fact is that the CBI has never shown a currency issued figure anywhere near 150 trillion dinars. ...The most recent value for Currency Issued per the CBI financial statements as of December 31, 2017, is indeed 44 trillion dinars, as seems to now be commonly known. ...It's important as a community that we rely on confirmable facts in our analyses. These corrected facts will bear fruit.

10-18-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   Right now we are waiting for the new designate PM to form his government, which is his cabinet of ministers that run the government. We know the constitutional deadline is Oct 24th in which to do this. The new speaker just told us...that he fully expects to hold a vote to ratify the new cabinet within this timeframe. We know the USA refuses to sign off and give a full commitment to reinstate the dinar unless they see a stable new government. One of the conditions they have give is to form their new government.  Iraqi news reports that Prime Minister-Designate Madhi will present his cabinet choices on Saturday Oct 20th and Parliament will hold a special session on Sunday for voting.

10-18-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru David M. Witty   In Iraq, source says Maliki is thinking of withdrawing from the new government formation process. Previously it was stated Maliki would maintain his position as deputy president in new government.

10-18-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat
We all are aware that the dinar, as it stands today, is worth much more than the program rate now assigned by the CBI. But this higher rate must be realized by supply and demand for the currency. Just be reducing the amount of dinar in circulation down from about 150 trillion to 44 trillion dinars alone is showing us the CBI is serious about this plan.  It is only when the dinar is re-pegged to the SDR basket and then gets reinstated to the open market trading platforms once again, as it was in pre-war days, that the dinar can potentially go to a much more substantial rate. Many call this the “revaluation” or RV but technically an RV never really happens. It is a “reinstatement” that occurs that eventually gives the dinar back it former rate (glory days) plus more.

10-18-2018   Newshound Guru Phillyman   ...Abdul-Mahdi is supposed to finally present at least half his cabinet next week but as I read in one article there still are issues.  Quote: "According to the sources, the debate is still large on the ministries of defense and interior and foreign affairs and finance and planning..."  But, the big article of today to me is the GE news...The Trump administration intervened to quash a $15 billion deal for Siemens Corp. to develop power stations in Iraq, instead persuading Baghdad to sign an agreement with General Electric Co., two administration officials said.  Article quote:  “This is part of very strong campaign of engagement in Iraqi government formation and a very targeted effort to support the Iraqi government and minimize Iranian influence,”

10-18-2018   Newshound Guru Adam Montana   Iraq, with a very significant chunk of the black gold available to us on this planet, somehow slipped through the cracks and didn't even have to raise a hand in agreement with this major agreement that was put in place by some tiny insignificant countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, wait a minute... those are NOT tiny or insignificant! Quite the opposite, in fact - they are major players. Some of the OPEC members have substantially less resources than Iraq.  This is important to remember because to this very day, Iraq has not made any promises to abide by the current agreement. This gives them the full ability to stockpile reserves, and flood the market at a moment's notice, which could bring in an enormous pile of cash to use in any way they want...You know, like... funding an RV.   [post 2 of 2]

10-18-2018   Newshound Guru Adam Montana   Article:  "OPEC Secretary General calls on oil producing countries to increase production"  ...It was not too long ago that the "Oil and Petroleum Exporting Countries" came to an agreement (unanimous, if I recall correctly) to work together on regulating the production of oil, as a sort of "emergency" measure to keep the markets under control in some uncertain times. They all agreed to control their production. They made a big deal out of it.  Iraq's position in this agreement is HUGE... mostly because they are barely even mentioned in all 39 of those pages!!!   [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]

10-17-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat THE PROJECT TO DELETE THE ZEROS IS IN MOTION...We are now seeing the very slow transition to the dependence on the smaller denominations as part of the plan. We know this is within the last steps of the plan. Soon they will launch out the next set of even yet smaller, smaller denominations...the initial removal of the 3 zeros will not impact the rate. ...They are not reducing the value or increasing the value of the dinar within the “initial” stages of the plan to delete the zeros. ...initially the rate in country will come out at about 1:1 for about 2-3 weeks prior to us seeing it on the global trading platforms. This gives the CBI time to monitor it and adjust for inflation. Then when it does finally come out on the exchanges, it will be adjusted to the new SDR basket and put on a float (as all currencies on the exchanges are on a float). There will probably be a fixed cap (a predetermined maximum rate).

Abadi continued, "We will also re-produce the victory coalition as a comprehensive national project in proportion to the current and future developments. Al-Abbadi noted that "victory did not demand any ministerial position in the next formation, but may offer us sites in the equation of the next ruling, and found that a site serves our project and strengthens our position and impact and does not cause us to load projections and contradictions and consequences of what is going to be accepted with the emphasis on our rejection of the abhorrent quota" .
He stressed "our faith and determination to continue victory as a comprehensive structural project that varies politically, socially, informally and culturally, and as a national alternative capable of competing and dealing with the emergency and strategic changes of the political process and the future of the country."
"We have the balance of achievements, the public, the vital youth, the national elites, the project that crosses the sectarian, ethnic and partisan barriers, and we have the internal and external acceptability of our discourse and approach. These are all factors that force us to continue to win as a national project.
