ZIMBABWE is sitting on an estimated 13 million tonnes of unexploited gold reserves and only 580 tonnes have been exploited since 1980, an official has said.
Speaking during last week’s Mine Entra indaba in Bulawayo, head of Gold Development Initiative Fund (GDIF) at Fidelity Printers and Refiners, Mr Matthew Chidavaenzi, told delegates who attended the women in mining forum that vast opportunities exist in the gold sector and urged women to seek their slice.
“The country is currently sitting on 13 million tonnes of gold deposits and this is proven. Since 1980 only 580 tonnes have been exploited. So, as Zimbabwe we still have a long way to go,” he said.
“Women in mining should grow and expand within the mining sector as there is enough room for them to do so.”
Mr Chidavaenzi added that the untapped gold reserves, if properly managed, can result in massive economic development in the country with both women and men working together.
“The gold that the country is sitting on, if managed properly, can be the breakthrough of the economic development that is so much desired in the country.
“The country, if it is to export this gold, can bag over a trillion of US dollars,” he said.
“This gold is not only going to be mined by men but also women. Everyone must benefit from this discovery regardless of gender so that production is maximised.”
Mr Chidavaenzi urged people in the mining sector to take up the challenge and beat the 30-tonne gold production target set by the Government this year. The sector had already clocked a record 28 tonnes by end of third quarter of 2018.

ZIMBABWE is sitting on an estimated 13 million tonnes of unexploited gold reserves and only 580 tonnes have been exploited since 1980, an official has said.
Speaking during last week’s Mine Entra indaba in Bulawayo, head of Gold Development Initiative Fund (GDIF) at Fidelity Printers and Refiners, Mr Matthew Chidavaenzi, told delegates who attended the women in mining forum that vast opportunities exist in the gold sector and urged women to seek their slice.
“The country is currently sitting on 13 million tonnes of gold deposits and this is proven. Since 1980 only 580 tonnes have been exploited. So, as Zimbabwe we still have a long way to go,” he said.
“Women in mining should grow and expand within the mining sector as there is enough room for them to do so.”
Mr Chidavaenzi added that the untapped gold reserves, if properly managed, can result in massive economic development in the country with both women and men working together.
“The gold that the country is sitting on, if managed properly, can be the breakthrough of the economic development that is so much desired in the country.
“The country, if it is to export this gold, can bag over a trillion of US dollars,” he said.
“This gold is not only going to be mined by men but also women. Everyone must benefit from this discovery regardless of gender so that production is maximised.”
Mr Chidavaenzi urged people in the mining sector to take up the challenge and beat the 30-tonne gold production target set by the Government this year. The sector had already clocked a record 28 tonnes by end of third quarter of 2018.

(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) warned Rafidain Bank employees of the local state services salaries with the bank and retirees to not cooperate with some offices of smart card outlets, which claims to provide personal advances in coordination with the bank.
"There are some offices of smart card outlets deployed in Baghdad and the provinces are promoting their names through social networking sites by giving them advances to employees and retirees and using the bank's name to promote the transactions of advances and loans outside their powers for certain amounts," the media office of the bank said in a statement received by the agency {Euphrates News} "He said.
The statement confirmed that "the bank took deterrent measures against them and reached to close the port and withdraw the license from it."
He called Rafidain Bank "employees and retirees to not cooperate with these entities and that the granting of advances shall be exclusively through branches of the bank deployed in the country and submit them electronically and subject to legal procedures to complete the grant to the employee or retired due."
The statement confirmed that "the bank took deterrent measures against them and reached to close the port and withdraw the license from it."

The Council of Ministers held its regular session on Tuesday 16 October 2018 under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister Dr. Haider Abadi.
Where the Cabinet discussed the draft law of the federal budget of the Republic of Iraq for the fiscal year 2019 and was presented projects and financial allocations to the ministries and was discussed in detail and vote on them.
It was voted on the exception of printing and processing the exam book for the sixth grade of the Council of Ministers Decision No. 272 of 2015 on the printing and implementation of government publications.
The Council voted on the National Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Non-Transitional Diseases for the years (2018-2022).
The session witnessed the vote on the adoption of the recommendations of the Committee of Diwan No. 20 of 2017 on negotiating with the Egyptian side on the ship Agnadin anchored at the port of Alexandria and determine its fate.
The decision to approve the recommendations of the Diwan Commission No. 45 of 2016 was approved by the Committee for the Coordination and Management of Government Activity towards Electronic Governance on the Secured Government Network.
The Council of Ministers also voted to allocate a sum of 500 million dinars to the Air Force Club for participating in the AFC final in Basra.
