After retreating, Iran agrees to delete 4 zeros from its currency

link
Official Iranian media reported on Monday that the Iranian parliament approved a bill allowing the government to delete four zeros from the riyal, following a sharp decline in the value of the currency due to US sanctions.
Under the project, Iran's national currency will change from one riyal to a toman, which is equal to ten thousand riyals.
The Iranian Student News Agency said, "The law to delete four zeros from the national currency was approved by lawmakers."
The bill needs approval from a panel of clerics that examines the laws before they become effective.
State television indicated that it would take two years for the Iranian Central Bank to "pave the way for the currency to be converted to Toman."
The idea of deleting four zeros has been circulating since 2008, but it became more urgent after 2018, when US President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed sanctions, as the riyal lost more than 60 percent of its value.
According to foreign exchange sites, the Iranian currency recorded about 156,000 riyals per dollar on the informal market today. The weak currency and high inflation have sparked intermittent protests since late 2017.

The Central Bank of Iraq, the Erbil branch, denies supplying the Kurdistan Region with any sums

And a statement of the Central Bank of Iraq branch in Arbil quoted the branch manager Kazem Namik Ahmed and responded to Shafak News, regarding the news that talked about the receipt of financial amounts to the province's bank account, saying that since 2017 the province bank has not remained and the Iraqi Central Bank has become the branch of Arbil, which is affiliated with the bank The Iraqi Central and not the Kurdistan Regional Government.
And that the sums in the branch are affiliated with the Iraqi Central Bank, which is affiliated with the federal Iraqi government, and has nothing to do with the salaries of the region's employees, and the branch also supervises the financing of the Central Bank of Iraq’s branch in Mosul as well.
Ahmed added that the Federal Ministry of Finance in Baghdad whenever the Central Bank of Iraq ordered then the branch can deliver the amount to the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Regional Government.

5-4-2020   Newshound Guru MilitiaMan   Article: "The Website Of The Iraq Stock Exchange Has Stopped Working"  I would like to mention the timing of the ISX being down since Thursday is very interesting. We know now that the CBIESD site shows the ISX Indice to have been adjusted from Blue to Black ink in respect to the Index value. The value increased by over 1000%. That fact is in stone imo. ...It wasn’t a glitch!   if it was and they made changes today to other key items, then why not fix an “error" to such an important component of the sites structure in reporting? They would have by now imo fixed any error.  [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]
5-3-2020   Intel Guru RayRen98   ...Iraqi TV reported in a breaking news, citing sources, that the voting session for the new Iraqi government headed by Mustafa Al-Kazemi will take place on Monday. Al-Kazemi has sent the full ministerial formation to the House of Representatives, explaining that the names of the candidates for the cabinet will be sent, within the constitutional period.  Shiite blocs have given Al-Kazemi the green light to present his program and his government to Parliament and the request for a special confidence-granting session.  The Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Al-Halbousi, directed the members of the Council to be in Baghdad next Monday, expecting to hold a session to vote on the cabinet booth this week.

...guru Frank26 still believes currency reform will happen very soon...There will not be until Iraq gets everything they need done which includes laws, a government, and the conditions for investors to want to participate in the private sector.  Currency reform in any form is never random, or arbitrary. Currency reform is based on sound principles...

[Question:  President Trump re-signed the E.O 13303 on May 23, 2019. It's set to expire on the 20th of May, 2020... @footforward what are your thoughts on this EO?]  ...if the RV doesn't happen by then I'd expect him to extend it. That's been happening for years. I wouldn't say that serves as a back end date. I do feel they want this done sooner rather then later.

5-3-2020   Newshound Guru Jeff  Article:   "Parliamentary source: Al-Halbousi instructed MPs to be in Baghdad next Monday"  ...They're saying they're gonna do it [vote] on Monday.  We'll see if they do it on Monday.  I don't care what day they do it because I already know they're gonna do it...

5-3-2020   Intel Guru Frank26   ...IMO...I will not cross the river with you.  How long do you think it will take me to recover?  Two weeks?  ...whenever they do raise the value of this currency it's not like they're going to celebrate and throw fireworks up into the sky.  It's not like they're gonna put it on the front page of the newspaper.  The international world will probably talk about it but inside Iraq - business as usual...it won't be a big fan fair.  They've been teaching them for a long time...there is a change coming to the monetary reform...

5-3-2020   Newshound Guru Pimpy  We do know that the U.N and IMF work in tangent with one another and they're the people that's going to pull the trigger on this deal...in order for the restriction on their currency to be removed there needs to be some type of stability.  So having a PM in there along with his cabinet is going to lend a lot to stabilities to what's going on there in Iraq.  Hopefully the UN will remove the restrictions and we'll see the IQD on the Forex.  Once it starts trading I believe a lot of speculators are gonna jump all over that currency causing the exchange rate to jump up...we will see shortly...   [post 2 of 2]

5-3-2020   Newshound Guru Pimpy   Article: "Agreeing on public voting at the session to give confidence to the Al-Kazemi government" ...our boy Kazemi, it looks like he's going to pass...It looks like all the different voting blocks are going to go ahead and pass him...the constitution of Iraq article 76 says if they turn down this current nomination as PM then that means it gives the president the right to dissolve the parliament which is what I want to happen...what does this mean to our Iraqi dinar?  What we're looking for is stability.  I don't believe this government has anything to do with whether or not the rate change gets changed...    [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]

State of Law officially announces no vote on the Al-Kazemi government
3/5/2020 18:22
Where's the news - Baghdad

The State of Law coalition announced on Sunday that it did not vote in favor of the government of Prime Minister-designate Mustafa al-Kazimi in Parliament, considering that the government formation that was presented to the blocs "contradicts" the aspirations of the Iraqis.

A statement of the coalition, where the agency received a copy of, said, "The State of Law coalition confirms that it made great efforts with the rest of the political blocs to form the new government, in order to address the major challenges facing Iraq in the economic, security and health fields."

He added, "During the negotiations, mechanisms were agreed upon to choose the candidates for the new government, with the designated prime minister dealing with all political blocs according to one approach."

The statement added, "But the course of forming the government began to take a different course from what was agreed upon, which called us to make additional efforts to correct options and nominate candidates with competence, integrity and leadership capabilities from sincere energies in Iraqi society."

He continued, "With great regret, our sincere efforts in correcting this path did not culminate, so the government formation presented by the commissioner to the political blocs came in contradiction with the aspirations of the Iraqi people, as it includes a number of controversial candidates who did not meet the required specifications of competence, integrity and acceptability."

The coalition concluded its statement by saying that "on this basis the State of Law coalition announces that it did not participate in the formation of this government and did not vote for it in the House of Representatives, and leaves the option to the rest of the members of the Council to take the appropriate decision regarding it."
