Nechervan Barzani and the US ambassador hope positive results of the talks in Baghdad - Erbil
In discussing the issue of salaries, airports of the region and the Kuwait ...
The President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Nechirvan Barzani, and US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman expressed their hope that the talks between Baghdad and Erbil will produce positive results and discussed a number of issues, including the salaries of the staff of the region and lifting the ban on airports Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq reconstruction to be held soon in Kuwait.
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Nigervan Barzani, received Thursday evening (February 8th), the US ambassador in Baghdad, Douglas Seelman and the accompanying delegation, according to a statement of the provincial government.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad in order to resolve the outstanding problems between the two sides. The two sides discussed in particular the issue of salaries of officials of the ministries of health and education in the region and lifting the ban imposed by Baghdad on international flights to and from Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports. That the talks will produce positive results and pave the way for a final solution to the problems between Erbil and Baghdad.
There have been recent meetings between officials of Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve the existing problems, but the Iraqi government has not yet made any concrete steps in this context.
The Iraqi government imposed a series of punitive measures against the Kurdistan Region since the self-determination referendum, which was organized last September, including the closure of airports in the region, as well as Baghdad to pay the salaries of regional staff, and share of Kurdistan from the federal budget.
The two sides also discussed the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation in the conference on the reconstruction of Iraq to be held soon in Kuwait, and expressed the hope that the Kurdistan Region will also benefit from this opportunity and get the share of aid and projects that are expected to be implemented for the purpose of reconstruction of Iraq after the end of the war on Terrorism.
The Kurdistan region suffers from financial and economic crisis due to the siege imposed by Baghdad, in addition to the consequences of the war on Dahesh, which participated in the region very effectively, as well as sheltering Kurdistan for hundreds of thousands of displaced and refugees, which led to deepening the financial crisis.
The meeting also dealt with the upcoming elections in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the political process, the situation in Iraq and the region, and the post-elimination phase in Iraq and Syria in general.

They told Reuters the United States had no plans to contribute any money at an Iraq reconstruction conference to be held in Kuwait next week.

He heads his delegation at the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition for a landslide defeat and participates in the Iraq reconstruction conference scheduled in Kuwait.

Litecoin Is Now a Surprise Favorite of Criminals
FORTUNE
Bitcoin, which has for years been the currency of choice on the so-called dark web, is falling out of favor among criminals. This is not surprising given bitcoin’s sluggish processing times, and law enforcement’s growing ability to track its transactions. More surprising is what these criminals are turning to instead. Rather than using one of the newer digital currencies with extra privacy features, such as ZCash or Monero, the most popular alternative is the bitcoin clone, Litecoin. Those are Read the full story

Iraq really needs the support of the global financial markets and political figures in order to have a successful RV. 2-8-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni Keep in mind, we all want this to start...but the reality is the CBI cannot float or for that matter do anything other than improve the banking environment at this time. Why? Because there is no upward pressure on the dinar. There is no investment in Iraq's private sector at this time. Until there is investment, or compliance with the IMF, the CBI's hands are sort of tied. Only after this conditions are met can the CBI consider moving to a float, ending the auctions, and have the dinar join the worlds currencies. [post 2 of 2]
2-8-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni Monetary policy is not a simple thing to explain. I do not think the CBI is ready to float at this time. Mainly because the IMF does not want them to. They want them to stay pegged until they meet compliance with the IMF and can move to Article VIII.That being said, I do think the CBI wants to float once they move to Article VIII. My belief is they will pick a new floating exchange rate regime that they can use to raise the value gradually to counter inflationary pressure created by the influx of investment flowing through the Capital Account of the CBI (hopefully that will capital will begin to come into Iraq soon). This is well documented in several IMF articles discussing the transition. [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]d
