Exchange rate first

link

It is time to adjust the exchange rate to enhance the value of the national currency (the Iraqi dinar) against the dollar.
And now that the reasons that prompted the decrease in the exchange rate of the dinar against the dollar as a monetary treatment to overcome the obstacle of the country being forced to borrow externally and internally have disappeared, there is no justification for sticking to this painful measure that touched the lives of all segments of society.

The direct reason for this tight monetary policy was the drop in global oil prices with the effects of the Corona pandemic, and the world has largely overcome this difficult ordeal.

With the return of oil prices to the rise, a cash surplus was achieved that contributed to supporting and strengthening the Iraqi cash reserve, the safety valve for periodic financial crises and natural disasters.

In addition to the above, Iraq was able to close the curtain on the debts imposed on Iraq forcibly to Kuwait. These factors and indicators are encouraging to readjust the exchange rate to what it was before the revaluation of the dollar against the dinar Iraqi.

Perhaps one of the most important reasons and justifications for the demand to return the exchange rate to its normal state is the situation and the painful effects that the citizen has endured, forcing him to give the government the opportunity to address the already dire financial situation.
The measure to reduce the exchange rates of the Iraqi dinar against the dollar has caused chaos in the market and broke down the stability that the market enjoyed at the previous rate.

The prices of materials and goods have been inflamed, which has affected the purchasing power of the citizen. You can imagine the extent of the suffering caused by the prices of medicines and basic materials for all segments of society, especially the poor, the retired and the employees.
The measures taken by the government to treat the poor segments were not equivalent to the effects of the exchange rate difference.
Accordingly, one of the tasks of the new government is to take decisions to restore the price and take strict measures against price manipulators, especially medicines and important commodities that touch the citizen's livelihood by activating the role of careful monitoring of the market.

In mentioning the prices of medicines, the Pharmacists and Physicians Syndicates must activate their role in monitoring and accountability.
For this reason, let us make readjusting the exchange rate the first task of the next government and parliament to relieve the burden of the citizen.
And a question that comes to mind, can the concerned authorities begin to gradually reduce the exchange rate until the formation of the government to mitigate the double effects on both sides of the equation?

Without losses..Two attacks target two columns of the international coalition in Iraq

An Iraqi security source said, on Sunday, that two convoys of the international coalition were subjected to two separate attacks in Baghdad governorate, while transporting logistical equipment.

The source, a police officer with the rank of captain, who declined to be named, said that "a convoy of the international coalition carrying logistical equipment was attacked with an explosive device west of Baghdad, while another, also carrying logistical equipment, was attacked with an explosive device in the Al-Mashadah area, north of the capital."

The source explained that "the two attacks did not cause human or material losses," according to his statement to Anadolu Agency, while no party has claimed responsibility for the two attacks so far.

And earlier on Sunday, the security authorities announced that they had thwarted 4 attacks targeting convoys of the coalition, led by the United States of America, in the governorates of Muthanna, Diwaniyah, Basra and Baghdad.

And in the past few days, the frequency of attacks against coalition advisers and their equipment has escalated, as the Iraqi military bases hosting them and the columns of trucks transporting their equipment were subjected to 7 attacks during the past week, without casualties, according to official data.

These attacks come in light of the threat of Iraqi armed factions, close to Iran, to target foreign forces in Iraq, after they questioned the announcement of their withdrawal and shift their tasks from fighting to providing advice and training to the Iraqi forces.

On December 9, both Iraq and the international coalition announced the end of the combat missions of the latter's forces in the country.

Last July, Baghdad and Washington concluded an agreement to withdraw these forces by the end of 2021, while retaining American advisers and trainers to assist the Iraqi forces.

Since 2014, Washington has led an international coalition against the terrorist organization "ISIS" in neighboring Iraq and Syria, and that coalition has assumed the task of providing logistical, intelligence and air support to the Iraqi forces in their military operations against the organization.

In late 2017, Baghdad announced victory over the terrorist "ISIS" by restoring the lands it invaded in the summer of 2014, estimated at about a third of the area of Iraq, but the organization still maintains sleeper cells in large areas of the country.

Economist warns of unjustified import and exit of hard currency

The expert in economic affairs, Raad Twij, warned against unjustified import, while stressing the need to use rationalization and reduce excessive consumption, especially in the areas of luxury goods, to reduce monetary demand and the exit of hard currency.

Twig said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: “Last December, pressure from the public was observed to obtain hard currency, as the Central Bank of Iraq sold 4 billion and 114 million dollars, at a rate of 196 million dollars per day, while it was at a rate of 167 million dollars. daily in November at a price of 1460 dinars per dollar, and this transfer was in the form of remittances abroad to finance foreign trade.”

He stressed, "Excessive consumption will increase monetary demand, which will push the dollar exchange rate to higher ranks without protection or support from the Central Bank of Iraq to protect the exchange rate above the specified rate that he pledged to maintain."

Twig called for limiting unjustified import, to keep the exchange rate fluctuating within the current level.

A government official expects inflation to rise in Iraq and suggests solutions to "curb" it

link

On Sunday, a government official expected that inflation in Iraq would rise by two decimal places during the current year 2022.

The official, who preferred not to be identified, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "It is expected that the annual inflation in Iraq will rise to two decimal places during the current year as a result of the steadily rising prices of goods and materials in the local markets, unless the government intervenes to prevent this."

He added, "Most of the materials sold in the markets are imported, and therefore they are affected by international prices, which are witnessing a continuous rise during the past two years, especially foodstuffs," noting that "the rise in the value of the US dollar and the depreciation of the Iraqi dinar basically also affected the rise in inflation."

The official pointed out that "reviving the stalled government factories and factories and supporting the local product would stop the rise in inflation in Iraq," adding that "the Central Bank of Iraq has the ability to stop the rise in inflation because its monetary policy is able to absorb inflation."

The Central Bureau of Statistics had announced last December 21 that the annual inflation in Iraq for the month of November had risen to 8.4% compared to the same month last year.
