Moody's: Iraq will see a significant drop in financial revenues
A number of countries in emerging markets and below, such as Iraq, Kuwait, Ecuador and Cambodia, which depend to varying degrees on commodities or tourism, are likely to see significant annual declines in financial revenues, according to a report by Moody's Credit Rating Agency.
In its report, the Agency explained that the sharp recovery in global financial markets, following a period of unprecedented turmoil, was preceded by stable production or low rates of MERS-CoV infection in many emerging and border market economies.
While a range of political responses had supported a return to risk appetite and appeared to have managed to avert a full global financial crisis, many economies would begin their recovery with greater fiscal and external weaknesses.
According to the report, the unprecedented economic shock hit low-rating Governments stronger, leading to widening financial and external imbalances, while emerging and sub-emerging markets experienced economic shock through multiple channels, including lower export values, as a result of lower commodity prices, weak tourism and lower global demand, as well as fluctuations in non-resident capital flows, indicating that macroeconomic pressures added other financial and external tensions.
In extreme cases, liquidity pressures have increased towards serious stress or deficits, while the Agency has indicated that some Governments in emerging and sub-emerging markets have benefited from emergency financing, with substantial financial support from international financial institutions and the formal sector partially financing financial and external gaps.
The Agency noted that low-level sovereign-rated Governments, which overcome the crisis without default, will continue to face significant challenges during the recovery phase, with global capital flows remaining volatile, likely to hamper investment, limiting job creation and consumption.
The uneven economic recovery and weak financial and external conditions will leave lasting credit challenges for many countries, even as global economic conditions return to normal, the agency said.

They have no liquidity to pay salaries and they tell us they have two choices...Austerity or float the currency. ...So from the looks of things the cards will be on the table soon enough to see if any of this is pertinent or not. My bet is what is in print supports they will see the reforms through now...The solutions is to raise the value (financing by inflation) and floating the currency. imo.

He was temporary. Because of Article VIII Iraq can only make payment with their currency - the dinar. They cannot use the US dollar. So in order for them to make payments... their currency has to be internationally recognized. GE is not going to accept payment with a non-internationally recognized currency. So anybody receiving payment from Iraq, the Iraqi dinar must be internationally recognized to receive those payments...

The Iraqi Exhibitions Company (one of the Ministry of Trade formations) announced, on Monday, the preparation of a program to celebrate the National Day of the Republic of Iraq at Expo 2020 Dubai, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.
The general manager of the company, Sarmad Taha Saeed, said in a statement, "The Iraqi General Company for Fairs, Services and Trade discussed in a meeting with the Director General of the Department of Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Culture Falah Al-Ani the subject of the program for the celebration of the National Day of the Republic of Iraq at the Expo Dubai 2020 and listen to ideas and visions. Ahmed Mulla Talal, a spokesman for Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, revealed on Monday that the government will soon remove important names and refer them to the judiciary on charges of corruption.
"The statement of the religious authority is supportive of the government, and the government is going to fight corruption," Malal Talal said in a press conference.
The supreme religious authority, Mr. Ali al-Sistani, during his meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Hennes Blashardt, announced his support for holding early elections as scheduled (June 2021), and the completion of the government program in the application of social justice, and the prosecution of criminals, including the killers of the demonstrators and the fight against corruption. And enhancing the performance of the security forces, imposing the prestige of the state and confining weapons in its hands.
These directives were welcomed by the presidents of the republic, Barham Salih, ministers Mustafa Al-Kazemi, Parliament Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and a number of political blocs, who confirmed their support for holding early, free and fair elections.
Mulla Talal added, "Soon you may hear about the removal of important names and their referral to the judiciary as a result of corruption files."
Since its formation last May, the Al-Kazemi government has made wide-ranging changes in high-ranking positions in the country, affecting security leaders and senior officials in the administration and financial institutions.
These changes come within the framework of reforms in state institutions and the fight against corruption.
Mulla Talal indicated that "the fact-finding committee will soon be formed to find out the killers of the demonstrators," stressing that "the current government will not neglect any of the rights of citizens."
