Iraqi Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Basra's Governor over Arguing with Abadi
 
ERBIL - An Iraqi court has issued an arrest warrant for the governor of Basra province over an argument with the country's PM Haider al-Abadi during an extraordinary parliamentary session held on Basra's crisis.
 
A few days ago, Abadi attended a parliamentary special session in which he and Governor As'ad Idani started an argument over the recent deteriorated situation in the oil-rich city of Basra.
 
However, a court in Diyala province has issued the decree in accordance with the article 433 from the Iraqi Constitution.
 
Article 433 is related to defamation, but it is not yet known by whom or why the appeal was made.
 
In the meantime, Idani, who has been accused of defaming Major General Jassim Al- Saadi, Basra Chief of Police, claimed that he has documents revealing corruptions by the police official.
 
The Basra governor said in a statement that he has recordings proving that Saadi "has been involved in bribing,” he therefore is ready to present the documents before the court.
 
He further pointed out that he had informed the Interior Minister Qasim al-Araji of the issue, but he had chosen to keep silent.
