: A security source reported on Saturday (February 28, 2026) that the Iraqi army has entered a state of alert (C) in all military units.

The source told Baghdad Today that "Alert C came within the framework of raising the level of security preparedness and readiness for any potential threats, coinciding with the war between Israel and Iran."

The Joint Operations Command announced today that the Jurf al-Nasr area, north of Babil Governorate, was subjected to several airstrikes, resulting in the death of two people and the injury of three others.

The command said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today" that "the Jurf al-Nasr area, north of Babil Governorate, was subjected at 11:50 this morning to several airstrikes that resulted in the martyrdom of two people and the injury of three."

An Iranian official announced on Saturday that all American and Israeli assets and interests in the Middle East region have become legitimate targets in the wake of the recent aggression, stressing that the Iranian response will be public and without red lines.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Saturday that Tehran would target US bases in the region in response to joint US-Israeli military strikes on Iran.

This came during a call made by Araqchi to his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.

The statement said that "the Iranian minister reviewed during the call the developments of the military situation in Iran following the recent attacks," stressing that "his country will continue to defend itself."

Araghchi indicated that "the Iranian response will target the American military bases located in the region, within the framework of what he described as the right to self-defense," explaining that "these attacks do not target the countries concerned, but are limited to military sites."

For his part, Fuad Hussein stressed Iraq’s firm stance against the escalation of military action, emphasizing that war cannot be a means to solve problems.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister stated that dialogue and de-escalation represent the best way to address crises in a manner that preserves the security and stability of the region.

Iran calls for an urgent Security Council meeting to stop the aggression and affirms its right to self-defense.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on the UN Security Council on Saturday to hold an urgent meeting and take immediate action to stop the aggression against the country.

The ministry confirmed in a press statement followed by Al-Furat News that "war was imposed on Iran, and its armed forces will defend the country with all their might."

She stressed that "the international community's inaction towards the aggression will be the end of international institutions," as she put it.
