The Art Of Listening Well
A zoologist was walking down a busy city street with a friend. In the midst of the honking horns and screeching tires, he exclaimed to his friend, "Listen to that cricket!"
The friend looked at the zoologist in astonishment and said, "You hear a cricket in the middle of all this noise and confusion?"
Without a word, the zoologist reached into his pocket, took out a coin, and flipped it into the air. As it clinked on the sidewalk, a dozen heads turned in response.
The zoologist said quietly to his friend, "We hear what we listen for."
Day after day, inside and outside of business, we miss important information because we don't listen with full attention. We also misunderstand and misinterpret messages and ideas because of our preconceptions, biases, and wishes. Take the manager who dreaded to see his secretary go away for her two-week vacation. When the secretary told the boss she'd be taking time off, it just didn't sink in. Said the secretary later: "I told my boss three times I was planning on taking my vacation in October. It just didn't register."
Minor slipups in communication can have major repercussions, as any sensitive manager knows. Lack of communication between you and others in your company can not only foul up job assignments and raise the cost of doing business, it can also cause hurt feelings and generally lower morale.
Listening is an art that requires work, self-discipline, and skill. The art of communication springs as much from knowing when to listen as it does from knowing how to use words well. Ask any good salesperson or negotiator about the value of silence. He or she will tell you good listeners generally make more sales and better deals than good talkers.
To sharpen listening skills, you need patience and practice. Here are some suggestions that have helped others become better listeners:
1. RESIST THE TEMPTATION TO MONOPOLIZE CONVERSATION. If you like to dominate a situation or feel you know everything there is to know about a subject, you're probably a poor listener. Remain open to new ideas instead of impatiently waiting for a chance to butt in with what you think is the final word on the subject. Before you speak, make sure that the speaker has had a chance to make his point. Many people think aloud and tend to grope toward their meaning. Their initial statements may be only a vague approximation of what they mean.
2. AVOID JUDGING THE SPEAKER TOO SOON. Good listeners try not to become preoccupied with a speaker's mannerisms or delivery. Instead of thinking, for instance, "What a monotone this guy has," ask yourself, "What's in the message that I should know?" or "What can this add to my knowledge and experience?"
3. DON'T FAKE ATTENTION. When we decide that what a speaker has to say is boring or useless, we frequently pretend to listen. It's usually quite easy for an attentive listener to recognize that our "uh-huhs" are really "ho-hums." When he does, his thinking is likely to become confused, he may get annoyed, and his delivery will probably deteriorate.
Attentive listeners remain alert and maintain eye contact. Simple gestures -- nodding, raising the eyebrows, or leaning forward -- all can convey interest. Occasional comments, such as "I see," "That's interest," or "Tell me more about that," if said with genuine interest, can go a long way toward reassuring the speaker.
4. LISTEN FOR IDEAS, AS WELL AS FACTS. When we listen, we tend to get bogged down trying to retain the facts and we miss the ideas behind them. For example, when a person starts running through a list of seven points, the listener immediately begins mulling over the first point, trying to remember it. Meanwhile, point two is being explained. How he's preoccupied with two facts and is apt to miss the third point altogether. So it goes through point seven: some facts retained, some missed, and others confused. Instead of getting lost in a string of disassociated fragments, make an effort to understand what the facts add up to by relating them to each other and seeing what key ideas bind them together.
5. BE ALERT TO NONVERBAL CLUES OR "BODY LANGUAGE." Try not only to listen to what is said but also to understand the attitudes and motives that lie behind the words. Also remember that the speaker does not always put his entire message into words. For example, there is sometimes considerable difference between the auditory cues and the behavioral cues emitted by the speaker. While his verbal message may convey conviction about a new idea or proposal, his gestures, posture, facial expressions, and tone of voice may convey doubt and lack of enthusiasm.
6. USE THE SPEED OF THOUGHT PRODUCTIVELY. Because we usually think three to four times faster than we talk, we often get impatient with a speaker's slow progress, and our minds wander. Try using the extra time by silently reviewing and summarizing the speaker's main points. Then, when he's finished, you can restate the points and ask the speaker if you've understood the message. Questions such as "Is this what you mean?" or "Do I understand you correctly?" are not only supportive because they show your interest, they also reduce the chance of misunderstanding later on.

Post-ISIS, Kurdistan sees revival of international trade
Iraq, June 4, 2018
With the threat of ISIS decreased and the restoration of stability, Kurdistan Region has seen 20 percent growth in international trade, according to an official from the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Trade steadily grew year-over-year within the Region and federally after the fall of Saddam Hussein. Kurdistan saw an increase from $4.28 billion in trade in 2004 to $17.2 billion in 2013.
With the arrival of the terror group ISIS, however, trade plummeted in 2015, to $12.9 billion.
The numbers are now on the way up again.
“Because the war on ISIS is finished and stability has been restored to the Kurdistan Region, business exchanges in the Kurdistan Region have once again increased. For example, trade exchanges increased by 20 percent last year, compared to 2015,” Nawzad Adham, an official from the KRG ministry of trade and industry, told Rudaw.
Food, clothing, medicines, cars, and gold were the main imports.
“This means that people mostly purchase essential goods due to low income,” Adham explained.
According to the KRG’s trade ministry’s data, the Kurdistan Region spent $15.928 billion on imports in 2016 and $16.133 billion in 2017.
Kurdistan’s biggest trading partners are its neighbours – Turkey and Iran – with a collective $9.67 billion in trade. This is followed by Arab states, especially the United Arab Emirates with $2.9 billion in trade, then China with $966 million, and EU countries $469 million.
Sheikh Mustafa Sheikh Abdulrahman, head of the union of importers and exporters in the Kurdistan Region, agrees that the end of the main war with ISIS and the restoration of business ties with Iraqi provinces have boosted trade.
“The completion of the war on ISIS and reopening of roads between the Kurdistan Region and Iraqi cities have had immense impact on the growth of trade exchanges in the Kurdistan Region. And this is because many of the goods imported to the Kurdistan Region are exported to Iraqi cities,” Sheikh Abdulrahman said.
Kurdistan serves as an international gateway for Iraq as the bulk of its imports continue on to Iraqi cities.
“Due to our facilitations for traders, the Kurdistan Region has become a center for Iraq’s trade. Because of this, 30 percent of Iraq’s imports come through the Kurdistan Region’s border gates. We have noticed that 75 percent of imported goods are exported to Iraqi cities. This has become a big source of revenue for the Kurdistan Region,” Adham detailed.
“But the Iraqi government is trying to undermine these business exchanges by setting up customs checkpoints and taxing traders,” he added.
Some imports into Kurdistan also make their way to Iran.
“We have noticed that some of the items imported by Kurdistan Region’s traders are exported to Iran in different ways, especially gold, electrical and other home appliances, fabric and clothing, and other items. That is why we can say that the Kurdistan Region’s border gates have become an avenue that accounts for needs of some cities in Iran,” said the union’s Abdulrahman.
He is optimistic that Kurdistan’s international trade will develop further.
“We hope that business exchanges between the Kurdistan Region and other countries enter a new stage after a government is formed, the Iraqi government sends Kurdistan Region’s budget share, salaries of government employees are paid in full, and a budget is allocated to investment projects,” he said.d

Federal Supreme Court: delaying the payment of debts of farmers and farmers does not violate the Constitution
(Independent) .. The Federal Supreme Court confirmed that postponement of the fulfillment of debts of farmers and farmers under the Federal Budget Law for the fiscal year 2018 does not oppose the Constitution.
"The Federal Supreme Court held its session under the chairmanship of Judge Medhat al-Mahmoud and the presence of all members of the judges, and considered a lawsuit set up by the Director of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank, in addition to his job to challenge the unconstitutionality of Article (20 / II) of the Federal Budget Law for the fiscal year 2018" .
He added that "the paragraph contested unconstitutional stipulates that it defers the completion of government debt owed by farmers and farmers whose loans do not exceed (250) million dinars in all governorates of Iraq with no debt to bear any interest during the postponement.
He explained that "the Federal Supreme Court decided to respond to the lawsuit because it is based on a constitutional bond, where there is no conflict between postponement of the fulfillment of those debts and the provisions of the Constitution."
An additional $ 25 billion is flowing into Iraq's budget from rising oil prices
Baghdad - Mohammed Ali
3 June 2018
Iraq will generate an additional $ 25 billion in revenue this year because of the high oil prices and the growing demand from its permanent customers in the Asian market," said Ahmed Basri, technical adviser at Iraq's Sumo Oil Company .
Al-Basri said that "Iraq was setting expectations of a margin of lower crude, but political developments and tensions in the region and other factors accompanied by the increase in prices in a manner is ideal for the oil-rich country."
According to Al-Basri, "the rise in international crude prices could positively affect important sectors in Iraq that have been damaged by the war on terrorism, and it will negate Iraq's need for further borrowing."
Iraq currently produces more than four million barrels of oil per day, of which about 3.5 million, and seeks to increase production to more than 4.5 million this year.
Iraq hopes that the surplus money will be reflected in the rise in oil prices positively on the budget and contribute to the completion of part of the reconstruction needs of many cities that were destroyed by the invasion of an organization calling for large areas of Iraq in the summer of 2014, and then succeeded in the liberation of Iraqi forces in December First Last.
In February, according to a study by Iraqi and international experts, the Iraqi government estimated the actual need to rebuild the country at $ 88.2 billion over 10 years.
The Iraqi oil ministry is seeking to complete the signing of six contracts for exploration and development in the oil and gas patches in several regions of the country, according to a statement issued by the ministry, yesterday, saying that the Department of Contracts will continue to sign contracts, on Monday.
Three contracts were signed on Sunday with the UAE-based private Crescent Petroleum Company. Two contracts are due to be signed on Monday with China's Jiujed and a contract with China-based United Energy Group.
According to the ministry's statement, the signed contracts belong to areas in the south and east of the country, most notably Sinbad, Neptaneh, Huweiza and Khashm al-Ahmar in Basra and Diyala.
For his part, said the decision of the Finance Committee in the Iraqi parliament, Ahmad Hama, "The Iraqi government estimated the price of a barrel of oil during the budget for the current year at $ 47, while the price today jumped to more than $ 75, which gave Iraq additional excellent amounts" .
The rise in oil prices by one dollar per barrel will bring Iraq a billion dollars every year, meaning that the government will achieve a surplus of more than 25 billion dollars if oil prices continue throughout the year in this manner and stabilize the export rate at this level," Hama said in a press statement.
He explained that "the government has a budget deficit of 13 trillion dinars (about 12 billion dollars) and if the survival of oil prices will end its deficit and deviate from external loans and will increase the reserve of the Central Bank of Iraq of foreign currency certainly."
The Ministry of Oil announced two days ago, the export of 108 million and 194 thousand, and 920 barrels, during the month of May, with revenues amounted to 7 billion 566 million and 294 thousand dollars.
ÙˆOil Ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said that the export statistics for May did not record any exports from Kirkuk fields.
Jihad pointed out that the daily rate of exports amounted to 3 million and 490 thousand barrels, adding that the average price per barrel amounted to 69,932 dollars.
For his part, said the expert on the Iraqi economic affairs, Walid Al-Sarraf said in his speech to "the new Arab" It is hoped that the Iraqi government will issue an expanded report by the end of the first half of this year, including additional financial revenues achieved and the lack of need to borrow to meet the budget deficit.
Al-Sarraf added that Iraq needs to keep oil prices within this level for several months beyond the budget deficit and not need to borrow external.
World oil prices have risen about 50 percent from a year earlier. The price of oil fell in mid-2014 from $ 115 per barrel of Brent crude to less than $ 30 and resulted in heavy losses and a decline in financial revenues of oil-producing countries, before the price of recent rise, to reach more than $ 76 last Friday.
An expert on the Iraqi market for securities, Abdul Salam Adnan, told the "New Arab" that the additional amounts resulting from oil prices are supposed to be included in the supplementary budget of the state where the deficiencies or things that the government had to abandon when the budget was set 2018 at the price of oil 47 .
Adnan added that the most important point is to stop Iraq negotiations with a number of banks and governments to borrow from them, considering that the survival of Iraq in the list of countries with a rent economy based on oil is not true at all. d

6-4-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat The CBI simply did not want this to happen again and expects to complete the monitoring on time on mid-June. This is also yet another indicator as to why I am telling you do not expect anything movement in the reinstatement of the dinar until at least past mid June, and even then, we have to wait to see what happens as we get closer. This mess with the election fraud may be resolved by some backroom deals or it may come to re-counting and maybe even a re-voting process. We just have wait and see. We have at least 10 days starting... [6-1-18] to let the Electoral Commission work with the Judiciary in sorting through the complains and deciding the next step. [post 2 of 2]
6-3-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat Many asked me address the change in the CBI currency rate from 1184 to 1190. I have been telling you that currently the IMF is monitoring the MCP (Multiple Currency Practices) within Iraq. The MCP is the difference between the CBI rate and the Market (street) rate. The CBI rate is a de facto peg to the US dollar and the street rate is the rate venders or banks can sell the dinar in exchange for dollars or visa versa. The monitoring program requires that the difference in these rates not vary more than + or – 2 %. Being able to control the rate of the currency is a requirement to show stability. So the CBI has to recently adjust the CBI rate since the street rate also dropped. This keeps the dinar within this required range for 90 days. We know that in mid March there was a violation of the 2% rule and so the IMF started the MCP 90 monitoring all over again. [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]

6-3-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat YES, it’s all about eliminating the currency manipulation, fraud and the corrupt banking. YES, these new elections laws also are very drastic and hurt those that need to vote on them the most. So they need a New Parliament to get them passed. They need to weed out all of this corruption. YES, The CBI need to ensure the success of the currency reform also by not letting this election chaos, that was sure to come, interfere with potential investors in Iraq. So if they did RV prior to the elections this would put this chaos during the time period when they need to draw in potential investors the most to the new Iraq dinar. ...It is a simple factor of the much needed, political STABILITY to make the launching of the new dinar successful. The needed stability is not just for a couple days or weeks but for years to come, especially just after the launch... [post 2 of 2]
6-3-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat So why did the CBI decide to hold it up the project to delete the zeros until after the elections, even though they told us it was all ready and prepared? The CBI along with the IMF wanted to first play out the polical process of the elections and to make sure that these corrupt officials are eliminated from office and the amendments to the election law are passed in Parliament once and for all. Iraq needs these laws to keep these crooks out of politics... They needed to close down these FAKE BANKS throughout Iraq and prosecute the guilty. Just too much currency MANIPULATION and FRAUD. [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]
6-3-2018 Newshound Guru chattels The only change or import of the articles being posted about the value of the dinar in the market are whether the difference between the official rate and the market rate is within 2%....There is about ten days left on the countdown to a ninety day period of compliance.

6-3-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat I...gave a timeframe when I thought we should expect some news from the CBI on possibly moving forward with the project to delete the zeros once again. This timeframe was mid-June onward and so now I must adjust it to mid July...sorry everyone!I would not be looking for any RV or any action until at least after this period. So how did I arrive at this timeframe? ...most of the news from Iraq is all about this voting fraud in Kurdistan. They must address the violations and it is a matter now of how they do it. ...Can these issues delay the entire formation of the government? Yes, if they decide to re-do the entire elections. Am I telling you the govt must be “fully” seated for the RV to happen? YES! But only if Haider al-Abadi is not the nominee.
