Kauaihn Iraq Articles:ddWe Must Have Our Own Currency To Solve Cash Crisis: Minister Mukupe
https://news.pindula.co.zw/ 2018/06/17/we-must-have-our- own-currency-to-solve-cash- crisis-minister-mukupe/
Zimbabwe Sun Jun 17 2018
Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Terrence Mukupe has said that it is imperative for Zimbabwe to reintroduce its own local currency in order to solve the prevailing cash crisis. According to Mukupe, the currency will be backed by commodities.
Technically if we were to introduce our currency right now you would probably let it float between a $1,50 and $2 to US dollar, that’s where it should settle at. That would be the solution to our current problems. We have to adopt a national currency without a doubt and there has to be a cap on the maximum release of how much of the new currency you are going to put out. The numbers that are there right now are indicating probably that the maximum release is not more than a billion dollars.
For me releasing US dollars is a temporary measure but if you release that as your national currency that would work. Then it becomes an issue of what are you are backing the currency with. What is it that we have right now that we can use to back our currency? What’s probably feasible and what’s probably sustainable is you could back it using you forex facilities, your diamond stocks because our forex facilities have been gold backed for the last part and there isn’t much capacity there but our diamond stocks are run and covered for the most part.
Mukupe has previously said that the Zimbabwe dollar will be reintroduced before President Emmerson Mnangagwa completes his first five-year term. Said Mukupe before,
Zimbabwe will have its own currency after putting the necessary fundamentals to deal with our own currency first, which will be there before the end of President Mnangagwa first five-year term as we would have managed to create the right and sustainable import cover.http://alforatnews.com/ modules/news/article.php? storyid=167328

The UN is excluding Iraq from alarming statistics for displaced people in the world
(International: Al Furat News) The United Nations announced on Tuesday, the statistics of the number of refugees and displaced people as a result of conflicts in the world does not include Iraq. The increase, recorded last year (3.1 million people), is well above that in 2016 (300,000 people), which has doubled the number of refugees, according to an annual UNHCR report.
"We are at a critical moment where a favorable response to forced displacement around the world requires a new and more comprehensive approach so that countries and societies alone will not face such situations," said UNHCR Commissioner Filippo Grande.
"Refugees who have fled their country to escape conflict and repression constitute 24.5 million people out of 68.5 million displaced, up 2.9 million from 2016 and also the largest one-year increase recorded by UNHCR," he said.
At the same time, the number of asylum-seekers who are still waiting for refugee status in late 2017 has increased by 300,000 to 3.1 million, while the number of IDPs is 40 million, slightly down from 40.3 million registered in 2016.
In terms of refugees, about one fifth of them are Palestinians, while the rest, mostly from just five countries, are Syria, Afghanistan, southern Sudan, Burma and Somalia.
The United Nations has revealed earlier that more than 920,000 people were displaced in Syria in the first four months of 2018, a record since the conflict began seven years ago.

"Iran, supported by Iraq and Venezuela, will reject any proposal by Saudi Arabia and Russia to increase production," Iran's representative to the executive body of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said. "Three members of OPEC's founding members will stand up to this proposal," Hussein Kazempour Ardebili said in an interview with Bloomberg News.

"They want to increase OPEC oil and its allies from 500,000 to 1.5 million barrels a day from July 1," he said.
According to Bloomberg News, the warning came after Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that Moscow and Riyadh agreed to cooperate in the oil market. This bilateral partnership enables them to intervene in the oil market as they see fit. Now Saudi Arabia and Russia can increase their oil production because both countries produce less. Of their energy. "
OPEC is scheduled to meet next Friday in Vienna to study the Saudi and Russian proposal to raise oil production in response to US demand to increase oil production in order to compensate Iran and Venezuela for oil exports because of its sanctions,
OPEC agreed at its official meeting on November 30, 2016 in Vienna, for the first time since 2008 to reduce production by helping to raise prices by reducing the surplus of oil supplies in the markets.
Russia and nine other producers, including Iraq, have also joined OPEC's agreement to cut production by late 2016.
Under the agreement, the signatories pledged to cut production by 1.8 million barrels a day, or about 2% of the world's total oil production. This agreement is valid until the end of 2018.
Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Venezuela are members of OPEC.

Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: The repercussions of the Iraqi elections and the emergence of the Sadrist
leader, Muqtada al-Sadr, as the main winner, and his alliance with al-Fat-h leader, Hadi al-Ameri, surprised the political and popular circles inside the country, as well as the observers abroad.
On 12 June, 2018, al-Sadr announced the new alliance with al-Fat-h bloc.
According to the announced results, the Sadrist Sa’iroun alliance got 54 seats and al-Fat-h alliance had 47 seats, out of the total seats of the parliament that reached to 329.
Despite the differences between the two leader, al-Sadr was described as “ a national personality that will work to develop Iraqi relations with the Arabs, particularly the Arab Gulf states, headed by Saudi Arabia, which satisfied the US interests in the region.
On the other side, al-Ameri had an alliance of many blocs including the Popular Mobilization Forces, with clear support from Iran, the regional opponent of Saudi Arabia.
Political observers believe that this new alliance denotes the supremacy of Iran against the United States.
The sources added that the efforts of the Commander of al-Quds Legion Qassim Sulaimani and the Iranian efforts overcame the US will in Iraq, though the son of the Iranian leader, Mujtaba Khamanae, was reported as having a share in the Shiite joint meetings in Baghdad.
Iran is trying to unify the its pro-Shiite elements, but stuck between al-Sadr and ex-premier Nouri al-Maliki.
Some Shiite sources believe that it is necessary that the Dawa party should not have the post of premiership again, which controlled this position for three terms, taking into consideration that Dawa party had only 15 seats in the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections in May last.
The Sadrist Trend led the demonstrations against corruption in Iraq for the past two years and raised the slogan against sectarianism.d
3 OPEC Members to Veto Saudi-Proposed Supply Boost

I ran says Venezuela and Iraq will join it in blocking a proposal to increase oil production, which is backed by Saudi Arabia and Russia when OPEC and its allies meet in Vienna this week.Three OPEC founders are going to stop it,” Iran’s representative to the bloc Hossein Kazempour-Ardebili said in comments to Bloomberg on Sunday. If the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Russia want to increase production, this requires unanimity. If the two want to act alone, that’s a breach of the cooperation agreement.”
Iran’s comments show that OPEC members are set to clash when they meet on June 22-23 in Vienna, Austria, to discuss the proposal to end global output cuts. The historic 24-nation pact has succeeded in its goals of balancing oil markets and lifting crude prices, and the two biggest producers want a relaxation of quotas as soon as next month. But while Saudi Arabia and Russia are pumping below capacity, many countries in OPEC, including Iran and Venezuela, would struggle to raise output even if their quotas were increased.
OPEC and its allies could consider a production increase of as much as 1.5 million barrels a day, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Thursday. That would be enough to offset the supply losses from Venezuela and Iran foreseen by the International Energy Agency.Saudi Arabia has been discussing different scenarios that would raise production by between 500,000 and 1 million barrels a day, according to people familiar with the matter.
The alliance is also facing pressure from outside. US President Donald Trump has continued to criticize the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries on his Twitter account. Worried about the impact of gasoline prices on mid-term elections, the Trump administration is lobbying hard for a surge in production. We call upon our brothers in OPEC and Russia that we do not need to appease Trump, who sanctions two OPEC founders and also Russia,” Kazempour-Ardebili said. “We are sovereign nations driven by our own responsibilities and values. The whole world has to stand against these arrogant attitudes—and will.”
US sanctions are expected to make Iran and Venezuela potentially losing almost 30% of their oil output next year, requiring extra supplies from the group’s Persian Gulf members, the International Energy Agency said last week.No changes took place in market fundamentals, although” the US Energy Information Administration and IEA “rushed to say differently”, Kazempour-Ardebili said.
The market is well-supplied, and OPEC should abide by its decision up to the end of the year. I am confident many other OPEC members feel and act the same,” he said.d

US walks fine line with Kurdish allies by joining Turkish forces on patrol in Syria
Tuesday, June 19, 2018
US and Turkish military patrols have begun operating in the highly strategic northern Syrian enclave of Manbij, heading off a feared clash between the two NATO allies but potentially leaving the Pentagon 's Kurdish allies in the region shortchanged once again.
Turkish military officials announced the joint military operations on social media Monday, part of a deal stuck between Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu to cool tensions over Turkish fears of rising Kurdish influence on its border.Turkey has long deal with a violent Kurdish separatist movement within the country.
US military officials did not comment, but Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters last week that joint US-Turkish patrols were slated to begin in the city within days.
The northern Syrian city is ground zero for US military operations against Islamic State in the country, but Turkey threatened to attack it to head off growing Kurdish influence across northern Syria , where the government of President Bashar Assad has no influence. The Pentagon has allied with Kurdish-Arab militias in the region in the fight against Islamic State.
US forces continue to train and equip Kurdish militia fighters in Manbij as the offensive against Islamic State continues. Turkey has labeled the groups as an offshoot of terrorist organizations.

The government has curbed the allocation of foreign currency for the import of some commodities and appears set to launch a revised currency policy, Mehr News Agency cited an unnamed bank official as saying. In response to the sudden hike in foreign exchange rates in early April, which saw the rial trading at 62,000 to the dollar, the government decided to enforce a single exchange rate of 42,000 rials and ban any trading beyond that rate. The Central Bank of Iran included importers among groups eligible to receive foreign currency at the government rate. However, the government is facing a challenge handling the huge demand of $20 billion worth of import orders, prompting it to halt the allocation of foreign currency to many import commodities, the unnamed banking source said.”Bank branches are accepting limited applications for the 42,000-rial dollar and have significantly wound down the process. The government move is considered positive, although it has given rise to ifs and buts, and might fuel rent-seeking,” the official said.

Immigration Fight Hands Merkel Her Worst Crisis
https://financialtribune.com/ articles/international/88238/ immigration-fight-hands- merkel-her-worst-crisis
Tuesday, June 19, 2018
Chancellor Angela Merkel is at a defining point in her fourth term as German leader amid opposition from her political allies over migration.
Her sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU) from the Bavarian region, is against Merkel’s stance on migration. The allied party wants German police to prevent refugees, who are already registered as asylum seekers in other European countries, to enter Germany. However, Merkel blocked the proposal last week, starting a spat with her interior minister and chairman of the CSU, Horst Seehofer, CNBC reported.
The clash has escalated into a power struggle between Merkel’s party (CDU) and the CSU, which have long been key allies. Together, both parties call themselves The Union and agreed that the CSU operates in Bavaria, while the CDU operates in all the other states. The CSU is traditionally slightly more conservative than Merkel’s CDU.
“This is definitely the worst crisis she has faced in her 13 years as German chancellor,” Holger Schmieding, chief economist at Berenberg Bank, told CNBC’s Annette Weisbach Monday.
However, he added that Merkel is likely to stay on as chancellor “because probably even her opponents from the CSU will not dare to bring down the government ... That would hurt the CSU as well and not just Merkel.”
Merkel is due to meet the Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte Monday laying out the foundations for a European-wide agreement over migration later this month. The item will be part of the agenda of a European summit on June 28.
Achilles’ Heel
According to Schmieding, the CSU is likely to wait 10 days to see what Merkel manages to get from Brussels.
The topic of migration has been an Achilles’ heel for Merkel. In contrast to many leaders, the German chancellor claimed an “open-door” policy to refugees from war-torn nations in 2015. But rising concerns over widespread terrorist attacks in Europe and discontent over economic conditions have fueled nationalist movements across the European Union, including Germany.
“As Merkel pulled CDU toward the middle in recent years, not least via her stance on refugees, her Bavarian partners from CSU became increasingly nervous, not least as AfD (a far-right German party) began to gain traction in parts of the population,” Erik Nielsen, group chief economist at UniCredit said in a note Sunday night.
The sentiment among German voters was clear at the last election in September 2017. The AfD got 13% of the votes, making it the third-largest political force, which allowed it to get a presence in the German parliament—the first time in nearly six decades that a nationalist party entered the Bundestag.
The rise of the AfD is a particular concern for the CSU as they fear losing their absolute majority in the Bavarian election next October, Nielsen also said.

6-19-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni How are you going to control inflation when large sums of money come into a country if you're not going to float your currency? All anyone needs to do is...read two or three of the documents from the IMF on the transition from fixed to float to understand how currency reform works. You cannot be pegged when large influxes of capital flow through the CBI, the only alternative to being pegged is a float. This is not guesswork, the IMF themselves told the CBI back in 2012 when they were about to transition the move to a more liberal exchange rate regime. The very definition of that is a float...we see the CBI follow the IMF time after time. Considering the IMF has an agreement with the CBI for monetary reform as well as trusteeship over the CBI the chances are very good that they'll follow what they recommend. [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]
6-18-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat I still persist that mid-July is very good timeframe to maybe see the CBI moving ahead again on the project to delete the zeros. Yes, I do believe it is coming. Let’s just keep our fingers (and toes) crossed that nothing else comes up to interfere.

6-18-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat ...it’s mid June already and still the election process saga continues in Iraq. This is just 2 weeks prior to the end of the current government. Will they settle this saga prior to this time? They are already talking about a provisional government, this of course would be disastrous and will only lead to yet more shenanigans by Maliki and his goons. Will the UN or the USA step in to assist and settle this issue? We also know the MCP monitoring by the IMF ends... What does this mean? It means that the CBI will not want to allow too many days in between the signoff of the MCP and the reinstatement. We watch now for the next Article IV consultation session. The last consultation was completed on August 9, 2017 for the ending of the 5 year Stand-by-Agreement. This may very well be the final piece to the puzzle, allowing the CBI to continue to the next and final stage of the project to delete the zeros.
6-18-2018 Newshound Guru Daytrader [New Guru] I believe there have been a number of responses showing sound logic and article support for Iraq to move to a higher exchange rate. IMO the reason they must is because it is a WTO requirement that a members exchange rate accurately reflect the true value of its currency. Iraq has been working towards full WTO membership for several years, and looks as though they could be nearing acceptance. The WTO will not allow unfair trade practices within its membership, and Iraq's current exchange rate would not accurately reflect its true value. Also recall Alak "visited" with the IMF while in New York for the Central Bank Governors meeting last year. ...Alak was joined by an accounting firm believed to have completed an independent third party analysis of Iraq's resources. Their objective was to provide accurate data for the new exchange rate calculations with the IMF. IMO Iraq will not reinstate at the current exchange rate.
6-18-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni With 96% oil dependency Iraq must pay for everything from oil sales from infrastructure projects, salaries of employees, defense spending and of course a lot goes to corruption. Iraq's budget for 2018 was $88 billion dollars. Iraq currently produces about 4.5 million barrels per day of oil. They would have to make at least $62 a barrel to break even on the budget including production cost. This is why the idea of oil credits or selling oil for $32 is just not feasible. I've said for years the dinar that we hold that was sold outside Iraq will never go back...it was part of a controlled leak to prime the pump of sorts to create momentum for the Iraqi dinar worldwide which eventually will end up in other central banks around the world. 6-18-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni ...Iraq is 96% dependent on oil sales what that means is they could never sell oil below market price because they would be under cutting their own budget. Remember 70% of the budget is wages as most Iraqi's are on the state payroll. Selling oil for $32 a barrel would prevent them for making payroll. Until Iraq and diversify and create a market economy and reduce the dependence on oil they are at the mercy of meeting that budget. The actual cost to produce a barrel of oil is about $10 yes but Iraq has many other expenses on top of that that make the sale of any oil for less than $40 not profitable. [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]
