Ehsan Chalabi, head of Sidakan administration, told BasNews that people in more than 20 villages are at risk now, and they could abandon their homes and farms at any point.
He blamed both Turkey and PKK for using Kurdistan territories for their military confrontations, however, he noted that the PKK fighters often attempt to use the villagers as human shields after they strike the Turkish outposts on the border.
Since the beginning of the Turkish-PKK clash in 1980s, a total of 115 villages in Kurdistan Region’s Sidakan area have been abandoned with 50 civilians killed, according to Chalabi.
He warned that the growing confrontations since mid-May this year could further destabilize the region for villagers who are sided with none of the actors.
