Sistani: Government "responsible for heavy blood" in the protests in Iraq

October 11, 2019

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's top Shi'ite cleric on Friday blamed the government and security services for the deaths of protesters in last week's deadly protests that killed more than 100 people.

Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalai, representative of Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, said during the Friday sermon in Karbala that "the government and its security services are responsible for the heavy bloodshed that has been shed in the demonstrations of the past days," setting a two-week deadline for the authorities to announce the results of their investigations.

Demonstrations have begun since October 1 to end rampant corruption and chronic unemployment in the country, but have escalated into calls for a complete reform of the political system.

These demonstrations are unprecedented because they seemed spontaneous and were not invited by any political, partisan or religious, but they were unexpectedly bloody, killing more than 100 people and injuring 6000 in one week

Good Morning from CNN

Wayne T. Essex Essex and Associates Inc

It's almost time for those who are 65 and older to choose which Medicare plan they want in the coming year.

More than 50 million Americans are covered by Medicare, the federal health insurance program for those 65 and older. From Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, those covered by the program can make a change if they want to a different type of Medicare plan for 2020.

Even if your Medicare plan works for you now, it's important to review your options carefully each open enrollment season. Your medical needs or financial situation might have changed since last year, and the benefits that come with the different plans can change each year.

Medicare health and prescription drug plans often change year-to-year, which is why it is so important to look at your options every year and make a change if necessary.

Every year during open enrollment, it's really important that you at least look at the options available. Cost isn't the only thing people should consider. Users should look at what kind of coverage they are getting, such as whether all the medications they take are covered and whether their doctor is in network.

So even if it's a more expensive plan, maybe that's a good move. Part of our research is to evaluate, Is that higher premium giving them better coverage or not? Sorting through the different plan options can be complicated and I recommends working with an adviser who knows the process.

The most commonly sold Medicare supplement, Plan F, is getting phased out on Jan. 1., so if you don't already have Plan F then you won't be able to buy one starting 2020. The plan was blamed for promoting overuse of health care services. Plan F is a secondary insurance plan picks up the expenses that original Medicare plan leaves patients responsible for.

I don't recommend rushing to buy a Plan F plan before they are phased out, because the prices will climb and there are alternatives available.

People are trying to run in and get Plan F before it goes away but once we look at the rates and compare it to another plan, the rates for Plan F are actually increasing. Long term, I don't think it's a good plan to get F before it goes away.

Our firm is holding a series of "Medicare Check-Up Lunch" events to provide information about open enrollment. Those with questions who are unable to attend a Medicare Check-Up Lunch event can call us at 937.432.1040, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enrollees can decide between original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage plan. Original Medicare plans are managed by the federal government, and typically those with traditional Medicare also buy supplemental coverage to cover things like prescription drugs.

Another option is to buy a Medicare Advantage plan, which is an insurance plan managed by a commercial insurance company. Also, be aware of predatory sales practices and Medicare scams, which can pick up this time of year.

No one should be calling or knocking on doors and saying they are with Medicare or asking for any kind of payment or personal information. The only contact seniors should get will be from someone calling back or contacting them about a scheduled appointment.

Even if you are not on Medicare, do your parents or grandparents and yourself a favor by letting them know about these FREE informational lunches. You will save them money and therefore you should receive a greater inheritance.
Tax credits can put extra money in taxpayers' pockets.

I have a client that earned $13,116 last year. She had $2,301 federal income tax withheld. She is a single mom with three young children.

She received a refund of $14,057. Her refund was larger than her income for the entire year. How were we able to accomplish this for our client?
  • Child tax credit $5,200
  • Earned Income Credit $6,557
  • Federal tax withholding $2,301
  • Total $14,057
The earned income tax credit (EITC) and child tax credit(CTC) benefits working people with low-to-moderate income. EITC and the CTC not only reduces the amount of tax someone owes, but may also give them a refund, even if they don't owe any tax at all.

Here are a few things people should know about this credit:
  • Taxpayers may move in and out of eligibility for the credit throughout the year. This may happen after major life events. Because of this, it's a good idea for people to find out if they qualify.
  • To qualify, people must meet certain requirements and file a federal tax return. They must file even if they don't owe any tax or aren't otherwise required to file.
  • Taxpayers qualify based on their income, the number of children they have, and the filing status they use on their tax return. For a child to qualify, they must live with the taxpayer for more than six months of the year.
Here's a quick look at the income limits for the different filing statuses. Those who work and earn less than these amounts may qualify.
Married filing jointly:
  • Zero children: $21,370
  • One child: $46,884
  • Two children: $52,493
  • Three or more children: $55,952
Head of household and single:
  • Zero children: $15,570
  • One child: $41,094
  • Two children: $46,703
  • Three or more children: $50,162
The maximum credit amounts are based on the number of children a taxpayer has. They are the same for all filing statuses:
  • Zero children: $529
  • One child: $3,526
  • Two children: $5,828
  • Three or more children: $6,557
Taxpayers who file using the status married filing separately cannot claim EITC.

Here are some important facts about the Child Tax Credit:
  • For Tax Years 2018-2025, the maximum refundable portion of the credit is $1,400 (equal to 15% of earned income above $2,500). If your tax is $0 and your total earned income is at least $2,500, you can claim the refundable part of the credit.
  • For 2019, the Child Tax Credit begins to phase out (decrease in value) at an adjusted gross income of $200,000 ($400,000 for Married Filing Jointly).
Many taxpayers, who prepare their own returns, miss these credits. If you know someone who has young children, encourage them to use a tax professional.

The cash envelope system is a popular way to budget, since it limits your spending to the money you put in different envelopes for each category of expenses. While using cash can definitely be advantageous, especially for sticking to a budget, if you want to earn rewards on your spending you could apply the envelope system to credit cards. This gives you the opportunity to earn cash back or travel rewards for each dollar you spend. You just need discipline. With rewards credit cards, you won't

But as a backup it seems that Parliament wants to pass a law to Simply lop the zeros off the notes and create a one-to-one exchange rate, as well as reducing the currency from trillions to billions... We have to hope iraq succeeds in launching this market economy.

10-10-2019   Newshound Guru chattels  Article:  "Iraq, China launch 'oil for reconstruction' agreement"   Quote:   "When Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi led a delegation to China in September, Baghdad and Beijing activated an "oil for reconstruction" and investment program. Under the arrangement, Chinese firms work in Iraq in exchange for 100,000 barrels per day."   Certainly is a different means of monetizing oil or bartering oil for desperately needed services that Iraq cannot arguably otherwise afford.  The foregoing would appear to contradict the following post from Kaperoni. 10-8-2019 Newshound Guru Kaperoni Oil credits and reduced prices for oil is all... nonsense...Iraq could never sell oil in exchange at a reduced price...because the budget is 90% dependent on Iraq's oil exports.

10-10-2019   Newshound/Intel Guru David M. Witty   Iraqi PM Abdel-Mahdi: tomorrow [Thursday], Parliament will vote on making ministerial changes, amending the constitution, & changing election laws. We want to make real reform.

10-10-2019   Newshound Guru Adam Montana   I have a longer weekly update prepared, but until these protests calm down... the GOI has their work cut out for them.  It's a shame that this is happening, because I had some information towards the end of last week that had me getting pumped up.  As much as many of us don't like it... Iraq needs to wade through this mess, and get the protests calmed down a bit before they can take their next steps.  Don't shoot the messenger.   The good news is that we aren't experiencing permanent setbacks. This too shall pass, and when it does, the progress will resume. These types of situations are usually short lived...

Supreme Religious Authority: The government and its security services are responsible for the heavy bloodshed

The position of His Eminence Mr. Sistani (long shadow) of the violence used against the demonstrators in recent events in Iraq

Friday sermon in Karbala on 11 Safar 1441 AH corresponding to 11/10/2019

In the name of of Allah the Merciful

In a sermon last Friday, the religious authority reiterated its condemnation and rejection of the attacks on peaceful demonstrators and several members of the security forces during the protests in the country the previous week, and condemned the burning and destruction of some government institutions and private property in those demonstrations. She hoped that everyone would be aware of the serious repercussions of the use of violence and counter-violence in the ongoing protest movement in the country, which would in any case be avoided.

But what happened in the following days is the unprecedented escalation of violence and the targeting of increasing numbers of demonstrators by shooting them, and the outrageous attacks on some media to prevent them from transferring what is happening in the yards of demonstrations.

While the official authorities announced that they had issued strict orders to prevent the security forces from firing live on the demonstrators, thousands of them fell between a martyr and wounded in Baghdad, Nasiriyah, Diwaniyah, and others, direct targeting them of firearms in full view of many, in horrific scenes of extreme cruelty beyond imagination And exceeded all limits.

The government and its security services are responsible for the heavy bloodshed that has been shed in the demonstrations of the past few days, whether by innocent citizens or security elements charged with dealing with them, and can not shirk this responsibility.

It is responsible when some members of the security forces use excessive violence against demonstrators, albeit because of their lack of discipline, obeying orders or because they are not qualified and trained to deal with popular protests so as to avoid casualties among participants.

It is responsible when outlawed armed elements, under the watchful eye of the security forces, target and shoot protesters, and attack certain media outlets to intimidate their workers.

It is responsible when its security forces do not protect citizens, government institutions, and private property from attacks by a small number of demonstrators who did not want them to remain peaceful and free from violence.

The religious authority strongly condemns the shedding of innocent blood and grave attacks in its various forms, expresses its sympathy with the families of the martyrs and the wounded and wounded, and affirms its solidarity with the legitimate demands of peaceful demonstrators - as demonstrated in the demonstrations of previous years also - calls for the strong government and the judiciary Conduct a credible investigation into all that took place in the demonstration yards, and then disclose to the public the elements that ordered or started shooting at demonstrators or others, and not hesitate to pursue them, arrest them and bring them to justice, whatever their affiliation and location. This must be done within a specific period - for example, two weeks - and not be procrastinated, as in the announcement of the results of the investigative committees in previous cases.

This is the most important and urgent measure at the present time, which reveals the seriousness of the government and the sincerity of its intention to take wide steps for real reform. It will not be possible to proceed with any reform project - including the fight against financial and administrative corruption and achieving a degree of social justice - unless the state's prestige is imposed, security is controlled in accordance with its legal contexts, the infringement of public and private freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution, and an end to those who are threatened, beaten and kidnapped. They snipe and kill while they are free from prosecution and accountability.

The supreme religious authority has no special interest or relationship with any party in power, and is biased only to the people and defends only its interests, and confirms what it stated in April 2006 when the government was formed after the first elections of the House of Representatives that they (did not and will not be one Or hand in the public interests of the Iraqi people, it monitors government performance and indicates the imbalances in it when necessary, and will remain its voice with the voices of the oppressed and deprived of the people of this people wherever they are without distinction between their affiliations and their communities and ethnicities). There's no strength except in Allah Almighty.

A Swiss scientist sets a date for the meeting of aliens
11/10/2019 96

Swiss astronomer Didier Kilo, who recently won the Nobel Prize in physics with two other scientists, predicted that humans would reveal the existence of extraterrestrial life within the next 30 years.

The Telegraph quoted the scientist as confident in the existence of sufficient data for the emergence of life beyond the planet.

Subsequently, the world was able to discover 4,000 planets outside the solar system, and so far named more than 100 objects.

Kilo, who has been working at the University of Cambridge since 2013, stressed that “it is unbelievable that we are the only living beings in the universe”, reinforced by the presence of too many planets and stars with the same cosmic chemistry “that led to the emergence of life on Earth. The same is somewhere else. ”

Kilo noted that he was confident that extraterrestrial life would be discovered from our planet within 100 years, but felt that the possibility of developing a new mechanism better able to understand any biochemical activity (ie, the discovery of organisms) on distant planets over the next 30 years, Very realistic.

"We have opened a new window in astrophysics, and we have confirmed the existence of other planets similar to those in our solar system. This has broadened our horizons, and once this is started, the questions will begin to be asked: Why do we look the way we are?"

His partner in the Nobel Prize for Physics, astronomer Michel Mayor, has dispelled the dreams of many scientists who are interested in the possibility of colonizing other planets if life on Earth becomes impossible, and advised instead to make global efforts to take care of the conditions of our planet.

He justified his scientific opinion that the journey to a viable planet would, at best, take hundreds of millions of Earth days to travel distances of a few light years.
