Iraqis say Gulf Arab States can secure waterways alone

Iran ups enriched uranium
BAGHDAD, Aug 13, (Agencies): Iraq foreign minister says Iraq and Gulf Arab states don't need foreign powers to secure navigation in the Arabian Gulf as that would only increase regional tensions.
Mohammed al-Hakim tweeted Monday that regional states are capable of securing the strategic waterway themselves. Al-Hakim's tweet was in response to efforts by the Trump administration to set up a US-led naval security mission in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran recent seizures of vessels has raised tensions with the West.
The US wants an international coalition to monitor and potentially escort commercial ships there. Britain said last week it would join the mission; no other US allies have committed themselves so far. Al-Hakim stressed Israel's participation in such a mission was unacceptable. It's not clear if Israel has been asked to participate. Iran on Tuesday increased its stockpile of enriched uranium 4.5 percent to about 370 kg, said the Iranian news agency (IRNA). “Iran increased its stockpile of enriched uranium about 360 to 370 kg,” IRNA quoted Iranian Atomic Energy Organization spokesperson Behrouz Kamalvandi as saying.
Last month, Iran announced that it had enriched uranium with a purity of 4.5 percent as part of a decision to reduce its nuclear pledges after the expiration of the 60-day deadline it gave two months ago to the EU countries. Iran believes that these measures are in response to the withdrawal of the US from the nuclear agreement last year and the failure of the European countries to fulfill their obligations under the agreement reached in 2015 between Tehran and the Group P5 + 1.
Earlier Tuesday, Iran laid the cornerstone of the National Research Center to separate and develop stable isotope uses at the Fordow nuclear facility. Iranian Atomic Energy Organization head Ali Akbar Salehi said, “The stable isotopes are diverse and have many uses and methods of obtaining them are numerous, including centrifuges.” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the United States on Monday of turning the Gulf region into a “matchbox ready to ignite”, according to Al Jazeera television.
Oil tanker traffic passing through the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz has become the focus of a US-Iranian standoff since Washington pulled out of an international nuclear deal with Iran and reimposed sanctions to strangle Tehran's oil exports. After explosions that damaged six tankers in May and June and Iran seizure of a British-fl agged tanker in July, the United States launched a maritime security mission in the Gulf, joined by Britain, to protect merchant vessels. Zarif, in interview remarks cited by Qatar-based Al Jazeera, said the Strait “is narrow, it will become less safe as foreign (navy) vessels increase their presence in it”.
“The region has become a matchbox ready to ignite because America and its allies are fl ooding it with weapons,” he said. Zarif, who arrived on Sunday in Doha, met on Monday with Qatari Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for talks to convey that message, Iranian state-run media reported. Qatar, which hosts one of the biggest US military bases in the Middle East, is trying not to be drawn into the escalating confl ict between Washington and Tehran. The British territory of Gibraltar will not yet release an Iranian oil tanker seized by Royal Marines in the Mediterranean despite an Iranian report that it could do so on Tuesday, an official Gibraltar source said. The commandeering of the Grace 1 on July 4 exacerbated frictions between Tehran and the West and led to retaliatory moves in Gulf waterways used to ship oil. Britain accused the vessel of violating European sanctions by taking oil to Syria, a charge Tehran denies.
The deputy head of Iran Ports and Maritime Organization, Jalil Eslami, said on Tuesday that Britain was thinking of freeing the Grace 1 following an exchange of documents. “The vessel was seized based on false allegations,” Eslami said in comments reported by state news agency IRNA. “We hope the release will take place soon.” Iran semi-official Fars news agency, quoting unidentified Gibraltar authorities, said the tanker would be freed by Tuesday evening. However, a senior source in the government of British overseas territory denied that would happen on Tuesday. Although Grace 1 was seized by British forces, Britain said on Tuesday that investigations into the tanker Grace were a matter for Gibraltar.
The territory has denied Iran claim that the action was taken on the orders of Tehran's longtime foe Washington. “As this is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment further,” a British Foreign Office spokesman said. Tehran has denied the vessel was doing anything improper and in retaliation Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps troops seized the British-fl agged Stena Impero tanker in the Strait of Hormuz on July 19 for alleged marine violations.

There are conflicting accounts of targeting a Hashd weapons depot in Baghdad
Abdul Mahdi visited the site ... and a former deputy prime minister hinted at Iranian weapons in the depot

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, accompanied by the Interior Minister and leaders of the Popular Mobilization, yesterday inspected the munitions warehouse in the Al-Saqr camp southwest of Baghdad, which witnessed explosions the day before yesterday which caused a wave of panic among the residents of nearby areas.
A statement by Abdul-Mahdi's office said that the latter "reviewed the reality of the incident and the measures taken after the explosions in the munitions stores, and listened to the initial reports from various parties, as well as a report on the number of injuries suffered by citizens." The statement of the Prime Minister to the death of one citizen among the citizens.
He directed the completion of investigations to find out the causes of the accident, and issued «directives to develop integrated arrangements for all camps and warehouses of the armed forces in terms of safety procedures and locations to prevent the recurrence of such unfortunate events».
There are conflicting accounts of the targeting process between those who point to the targeting of the site by US or Israeli aircraft, and those who believe that the process of poor storage income in the incident. There were also conflicting reports about the return of the camp and the owner of the camp and the nature of the weapons stored. However, Interior Ministry spokesman Saad Maan said in a statement that "the equipment is belonging to the Federal Police and the Popular Mobilization." And that «the explosion wounded 13 people, including two federal police and four elements of the Popular Mobilization, and explosions were strong».
The strongest statements regarding who owns the ammunition from the Deputy Prime Minister and former leader of the Sadrist movement Bahaa al-Araji, who said: «Through the nature of the fire to fire materiel stores in Camp Falcon, shows that the nature of the weapons burned unusual, and not used by Iraqi forces, Not even (the popular crowd) ». He added in a tweet in «Twitter» yesterday: «So we believe it is the Secretariat we have from a neighboring country, and this secretariat was targeted from an unjust colonial state based on a treacherous Iraqi tale», in a clear indication that the pile of equipment owned by the Iranian state.
A security source told Asharq Al-Awsat that "it is clear that we are facing a real bone-breaking battle between the United States and Israel, on the one hand, and Iran and its allies in Iraq, on the other, and it is also clear that the two parties have chosen Iraq as a land for their undeclared battle." "All indications are that Israel is completing, perhaps with the support of the United States, what it began in Syria with the targeting of Iranian multinational forces," the source said, preferring not to be named.
The source likely «Iraq does not announce the results of the planned investigation into the recent bombing, as happened in the bombing of the Martyrs camp in Amerli, last month, because that disturbs the Iranians, as they have been adopting a strategy for years not to announce the Israeli and American targets for their positions in Syria and later in Iraq".
For his part, spokesman for the «loyal Ansar Allah» in the «Popular Mobilization», Adel Karaawi, said yesterday that «the data on the outbreak of fire in the camp Falcon, near the Dora area, south of Baghdad, indicates the camp was bombed by a US aircraft loaded With rockets. Al-Karaawi, in television statements, yesterday that what happened «a criminal act carried out by a drone plane indicating that it is American, and was loaded with missiles», expecting the continuation of shelling «unless we control the airspace, especially after an Israeli aircraft entered the Iraqi territory and bombed Training camp (Popular Mobilization) », referring to the camp of martyrs in the region of Amerli Salahuddin province.
Regardless of the causes and the reasons behind the explosion of equipment, and the owners of it, the new incident sparked a wave of widespread popular criticism against the Iraqi authorities, since it is not the first incident, and will not be the last, which is located in the midst of the neighborhoods of many, and the academic Mustafa Naji, Yesterday, the publication of a statistic that included «more than 15 explosions during the period between 2016 and 2019», mostly within or near the popular neighborhoods, and belong to one of the «Popular Mobilization».

Atrush Block drives Production Gains at TAQA

14th August 2019 in Iraq Oil & Gas News

By John Lee.
Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) has announced that the group’s oil and gas business delivered strong performance with an 11% increase in revenue, mainly driven by increased production volumes from its assets in Europe and Iraq.
In its financial results and operational highlights for the six-month period ending June 30, 2019, it said its overall capex also rose to AED 957 million in the first six months of 2019, a 15% increase when compared to the same period in 2018.
The increase in Oil and Gas capex was largely driven by the AED 116 million acquisition of an additional 7.5% working stake in the Atrush Block from Marathon Oil Kurdistan B.V. in May of this year. The acquired stake increases TAQA’s working interest in the project from 39.9% to 47.4%.
“Additional capex in Iraq was focussed towards bringing new wells on stream and the impact of debottlenecking work to increase the capacity of the current production facility. This has proven to be a worthwhile investment, with TAQA’s entitlement production increasing to 5,728 boe/d in H1 2019, a 149% improvement compared to the previous year.”
It added that this has proven to be a worthwhile investment, with TAQA’s entitlement production increasing to 5,728 boe/d in H1 2019, a 149% improvement compared to the previous year.
The average production by the oil and gas business for the first half of the year increased 3% to 124,760 boe/d, aided by strong well performance in Europe and Iraq.
Commenting on the positive performance, Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Chairman of TAQA, said:
Our solid performance in H1 2019 is underpinned by our strong operational performance.  The Group’s balance sheet remains healthy, and with stable revenues and a further reduction in debt coupled with strong liquidity we remain on course to meet our long term objectives. The recent ratings affirmation from Moody’s is a testament to the stability of our operational performance.
“We also made exciting progress in advancing our strategy of maintaining capital discipline with focused investments in our core assets, such as the Atrush Block. Looking ahead, we remain optimistic and believe that our investments in the UAE and other strategic markets will contribute to a sustained growth story.

8-14-2019  Newshound Guru Kaperoni  ...There is no way the dinar can substantially revalue..especially at $3+.  Iraq simply has to much currency in circulation...It is simply impossible for such an event to occur.  An RV or RI even at 1 to $1 is not possible with 42 trillion dinar in circulation.  That is 3 times the worlds money supply.  Iraq could never afford such an event.  The only possible solution would be a slow growth via a float as investment comes into Iraq to offset pressure/inflation.  They then could collect dinar as it gradually appreciates reducing the money supply and liability. I know, the speed or rate in which a currency appreciates is based on the pressure created on the financial system which is controlled by the amount of investment. So the faster the investment or greater the investment, the faster the appreciation will be of the currency.

Iraq .. discriminatory laws under the supervision of parties and 160 billion annually salaries for groups that fought the former regime

09:00 - 14/08/2019

FacebookViberWhatsAppEmail
Baghdad - Mawazine News
After 2003, the political forces in Iraq succeeded in enacting several parliamentary laws, which were considered special political projects that were separated to measure these parties and their interests. At the same time, they were accused of establishing classes within Iraqi society, which have higher financial, legal and civil rights than the rest of the Iraqis. Tens of thousands of Iraqis and their families enjoy privileges that the rest of the Iraqis do not have.

The beneficiaries of these privileges are those who enjoy the Law of Victims of the Former Regime, the Law of Jihad Service, the Law of the Martyrs Foundation, the Law on the Privileges of Members of Former Governments and Parliaments, the Law of Political Separations and the Law of the Rafha Detainees And chasing to leave Iraq for Saudi Arabia, some of whom were born in the camp).

The exact number of beneficiaries of these laws is unknown, but an official in Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi's office estimated them to be "tens of thousands of beneficiaries of those laws," and that "they have become a reality through laws enacted between 2005 and 2017, All members of the political process will benefit from their various names after 2003. "

"All of this costs the state monthly salaries and concessions with an annual value of more than 160 billion dinars (about $ 148 million)."

The official stressed that "the government does not have the powers to modify, delete or freeze those monthly salaries paid to them, or restrict the privileges obtained such as plots of land and compete for educational seats and employment," but said: "The law of the Martyrs Foundation must be excluded from this controversy, which details Those who are covered under its law and many of them deserve just like the citizens covered by the Victims of Terrorism Act. "

He said that "the privileges obtained by those covered by the jihadi service or the victims of the former regime, or political separators are able to employ all university graduates in Baghdad and Basra for a month and three times as well."

Baghdad and Basra have witnessed demonstrations and sit-ins for about a month to hold graduate degrees, doctorates and masters and graduates of the College of Science and Petroleum Engineering, demanding their employment. However, the parliament is currently unable to amend or stop these laws, and timid attempts to clash with the continued dominance of the beneficiary parties in parliamentary seats.

For his part, MP for the "national axis", Yahya al-Mohammadi, that "the laws that have split the Iraqi society between the beneficiary of the state and revenge, has begun in earlier stages, and that the House of Representatives is currently different performance and thinking and outputs, and seeks in this session to address a lot of laws Initiated in exceptional circumstances, particularly those of a political, sectarian and societal character. "

"These laws have greatly influenced the existence of discrimination between segments of society at the expense of other segments," Mohammedi said. "They violate the Civil Service Law. There is resentment by large blocs in parliament, and grumbling from within the Shiite blocs that made these laws."

For his part, MP Hanin Kaddou, that "there is a mismanagement, and errors in the distribution of financial resources to Iraqis, which created an unfair system in the country, and left class differences through several laws," pointing out that "there are those who receive 10 high salaries under the names of the fight "The former regime (Saddam Hussein), and there are those who receive only $ 100 every month. Knowing that all Iraqis are victims of Saddam's regime and no one is tortured more than another."

He stressed that "Parliament feels injustice and the gap between segments of society created by government and parliamentary laws, moving to amend laws such as jihadist service and Rafha."

He pointed out that "parliamentary movements can not bear fruit without the presence of the parliamentary majority, in order to open the files of laws and study again and modify, because some members of the House of Representatives, are the most beneficiaries of these laws, not to mention the reluctance of some political forces to open these files."

Observers felt that "those unjust laws that have brought about the destruction of the Iraqi society and its institutions, can only be abolished with the strong will of the Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament.

Political expert Abdul Rahman al-Ani stressed that "simple parliamentary demands and actions cannot do anything about these laws, which generate huge profits and benefits for the beneficiaries. This requires the heads of government and parliament to adopt a clear position towards them, and to adopt those demands and support them for re-review." Those laws. "

He stressed that "the continued application of these laws will result in significant damage in society and state institutions can not be remedied in the future." In addition to the significant material damage caused by these laws on the budgets of the country, at the same time, they caused the destruction of state institutions by appointing those who are not eligible for appointment and working in them, with martyrs, dismissed and affected by the former regime, who invaded state institutions and universities.
