U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo
The Iraqi Kurdish "Rodaow" agency announced that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived today, Saturday, at Ain Al-Asad base in Anbar province on an unannounced visit to Iraq.
The Pentagon confirms the killing of an American civilian contractor with a missile attack on a military base in northern Iraq
The agency noted that the visit comes just a day after a US civilian contractor was killed by a massive missile attack targeting the "K1" military base near Kirkuk, without giving any details about the US Secretary of State's agenda in Iraq.
And camp "K1", which hosts US and Iraqi forces, on Friday evening, was attacked by a large number of rocket-propelled grenades, which, according to the Pentagon, resulted in the death of a contractor and the injury of several soldiers from the United States.
The Pentagon said that "Iraqi security forces are leading the response and investigation" in the attack, while media reports have said that the site was targeted with 30 rocket-propelled grenades.
The Iraqi military bases, which are spread by the American forces, have been subjected to repeated missile attacks during the past weeks, which were intensified amid the intensification of the wave of anti-government protests in the country.
The United States, through its foreign minister, accused "Iran and its followers" of being behind these attacks, vowing to respond firmly if any of the American cadres or their Iraqi allies are affected by these attacks.

The Liberal Bridge is located close to Tahrir Square, which has been the stronghold of anti-government protesters and the ruling political class since early October. The Commission also reported that the total official kidnapping and loss statistics documented by its offices amounted to 68 kidnappings and losses due to the demonstrations. It revealed that the remaining remaining, who have not yet been released, are 56 activists after the release of the 12 Karbala activists two weeks ago.

Date:
Iraqi political sources revealed the existence of moves within Parliament to remove the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, from his position, on the accusation of "violating the constitution." The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, stressed that the President is under great pressure describing the crisis the country is going through as "deep."
In detail, political sources revealed that there are movements within parliament to isolate the Iraqi president led by political parties that have initiated a broad movement aimed at isolating Barham Salih through Parliament, after he was charged with violating the constitution, given that Article 76 includes that the role of the president is to assign the candidate of the most numerous bloc In Parliament, he is not entitled to reject this nomination.
The sources added, according to the Iraqi "Alsumaria" channel, that the next two days will witness a political movement in this matter between the various political forces, to discuss the isolation of the Iraqi president, and find a substitute for it politically agreed upon before the isolation, so that the scenario of Adel Abdul-Mahdi does not repeat from the point of the constitutional vacuum, hinting The current Minister of Finance in the government, Fouad Hussein, who was formerly the director of the office of the former Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani, is suitable for the position, and he has nominated him, but political consensus excluded him and granted him to Jaber Saleh.
For his part, President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, said in a statement yesterday that the Iraqi president is under great pressure, adding: “We are following with great concern and closely the conditions and developments of Iraq, which is suffering a deep crisis, and instability threatens to move towards an unknown future, and it is imperative to Everyone is dealing with the situation with understanding, in a national spirit, with responsibility, and away from political pressure to pass the stage, according to constitutional contexts.
He continued: «On the issue of assigning a candidate to head the next Iraqi government, it appears that the President of the Republic is under great pressure, other than constitutional mechanisms and foundations», stressing that any solution must be based on the constitution and in accordance with legal contexts, and stressed that he is to choose a national and non-controversial candidate for the presidency The government is acceptable to the influential forces. The legitimate demands of the demonstrators and the conditions and interests of the country should be taken into account.
In turn, the legal advisor to the Iraqi president, Amir al-Kinani, announced that the president’s failure to assign the candidate to the political blocs came for several reasons, including incompatible correspondence and official books that he reached regarding the bloc concerned with the nomination after the excess of the agreement between the building and reform blocs, a violation calculated by the political blocs Not the presidency.
Kanani stressed that «some political blocs want to make the tasks and powers of the president to be a postman to implement the content of Article 76 of the Constitution, and this is what is reflected in logic and sound mind.
On the other hand, the leadership of the Dhi Qar Governorate Police issued yesterday an order to form a high committee to investigate the killings of demonstrators, while the Independent High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq revealed the kidnapping of 68 protesters since the start of the protest demonstrations last October and until yesterday, a member of the Council said UNHCR, Anas al-Azzawi, in a press statement, 12 have been released, while the fate of 56 kidnappers remains unknown.
He explained that the assassination attempts among activists and demonstrators amounted to 33 cases, distributed by 15 murders, 13 injuries, and five failed attempts.
Production stopped in the Nasiriyah oil field in southern Iraq, after demonstrators against the government cut off access to it, and this is the first time that production has stopped in an oil field in Iraq since the start of unprecedented anti-government demonstrations.
And the production of the field of Nasiriyah reaches 100 thousand barrels per day, and production stopped in the morning when demonstrators cut off the roads leading to the oil field demanding jobs, according to police sources.
In addition, German News Agency (dpa) quoted Iraqi sources as saying that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived yesterday at Ain al-Asad air base in the Al-Baghdadi district of Anbar Province, while the international coalition against ISIS announced that The United States led the missile attack that targeted a military base in Kirkuk that includes coalition forces, killing an American civilian contractor and wounding several American soldiers and Iraqi service members.
At least 30 missiles hit the base, including an ammunition depot, which caused the explosions, while four other missiles were found in its tubes inside a truck at the point from which the missiles were fired, an informed US official told AFP.
The official described the attack as the largest of a series of missile strikes that have affected US interests in Iraq since the end of last October, and the source said that the threat of pro-Iranian factions in Iraq to American soldiers has become greater than the threat posed by ISIS.
The Ain al-Assad base in the western Anbar province was attacked on December 3 by five missiles, four days after a visit by US Vice President Mike Pence to his country's forces there, and Qayyarah Air Force Base in northern Iraq was hit by more than 10 rockets in November, in an attack He was among the largest in the past months against a region where American forces are present.
A security source in Anbar said yesterday that the American forces took unprecedented measures against the backdrop of a plan to target the Ain al-Asad air base, explaining that planes flew over the base and formed an air umbrella on the base in anticipation of any emergency, in addition to monitoring any movement aimed at attacking the base.

Iraqi lawmaker: The next prime minister will not stay more than 6 months

29.12.2019
The new prime minister will not remain in power for more than 6 months, and then early elections will be held, and therefore there is nothing to worry about in this aspect," said Mukhtar al-Musawi, a member of the "Al-Fateh" coalition, on Saturday.
He stressed that early elections will be held at the timings to be determined by the Electoral Commission, after agreeing to choose the personality of the replacement prime minister, according to the "Baghdad today" site.

An Iraqi parliamentarian reveals the main reason for the President's position on the resignation
He added that "all political forces agree to meet the demands of the Iraqi street, including choosing the personality of the Prime Minister that is acceptable to the street and everyone, and holding early elections."
He pointed out that "talking about the attempts of some forces to strike at each other in order to weaken their chances in the upcoming elections, is unrealistic, because the final discussion will be for the people in case the elections are held."
And the Iraqi parliament , during its session, last Tuesday, voted on the election law legislation, the most prominent of which stipulates the adoption of multiple constituencies within the province, and the granting of seats to the loudest winners, on the basis of individual nomination and not on the basis of lists.
On November 30, Adel Abdul-Mahdi submitted his resignation from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers , in response to the request of the Supreme Religious Authority in Iraq, Ali al-Sistani, in preparation for the holding of new elections to calm the situation in the country.
Abdul Mahdi stated, "I listened with great care to the sermon of the supreme religious authority today, and reminded it that" given the difficult circumstances the country is going through, and what appeared to be a clear deficit in the dealings of the concerned authorities with the developments of the two months. "
And Iraq has been witnessing protests since the beginning of last October, to demand the improvement of living conditions and the fight against corruption.

Political blocs threaten to isolate Saleh .. The demonstrators in Baghdad and the south stick to their demands

29/12/2019
Iraq is heading towards a "presidential vacuum" and the crisis is deepening Baghdad - Agencies: A source in the Presidency of the Republic of Iraq announced yesterday that the Iraqi President, Barham Salih, returned yesterday to Baghdad to complete discussions of assigning a new head of the Iraqi government.
The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, said that the President of the Republic is under great pressure, in contrast to the mechanisms and constitutional foundations for assigning the Prime Minister.
The Iraqi media reported Thursday that President Barham Saleh left the capital Baghdad for Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan region, after announcing his readiness to submit his resignation from his post after he was under pressure by some political parties wishing to assign its candidate to head the government.
And saw the Iraqi capital Baghdad, on Saturday night, Friday, thousands of demonstrators flocked in angry marches to renew their demands and confirm their adherence, and anti-government protesters in Baghdad repeated their demands for a prime minister independent of political parties. They also chanted slogans in Tahrir Square denouncing political parties, and demanding the selection of a qualified prime minister from the people, away from the political elite that has ruled the country since 2003. Karbala and Basra (southern Iraq) witnessed similar moves and bandits.
The armed forces considered that the one who cuts off the roads is not considered a demonstration, but a saboteur. The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Abdul Karim Khalaf, called on the demonstrators to support the security forces to arrest the terrorists who cut the streets and burn the institutions.
Meanwhile, the leader of the “Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq” movement attacked Qais Khazali, the Iraqi president, and threatened to dismiss him on the grounds of Saleh’s refusal to assign the “Building Alliance” candidate to form the new government. He said in a television interview that "the last step of the President of the Republic was not justified, and the arguments he gave were not logical, and the constitution obliges him to assign the candidate of the largest bloc to parliament", considering what he did "subtle and deceitful." He also saw that objecting to a specific candidate is not the job of the President of the Republic but rather the competing blocs, and if he objects to a particular candidate, it becomes a non-neutral political party.
On Thursday, the Iraqi President announced in a written message his readiness to put his resignation before the members of the House of Representatives, while he apologized for assigning the construction bloc Asaad Al-Eidani to head the next government.
For his part, Vice President of the Iraqi Parliament, Bashir Haddad, said that Saleh is considered resigned if he does not withdraw within a week his message that he sent to parliament, calling on the Federal Court to issue an explanation of Saleh's message. He pointed out that the constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic can submit his written resignation to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and it is considered in effect after seven days from the date of its filing with the Council.
Haddad added that due to the absence of a vice president, the Iraqi constitution requires that the speaker of parliament take over the post, and that a president be appointed to the republic within thirty days.

Iranian agents threaten the Iraqi president with death

29 December 2019
Baghdad: Dr. Hamid Abdullah - Gulf News correspondent
Drones circled over the presidential palace of Saleh's terrorishDiscussions  are under way in the Iraqi parliament to deal with the resignation of President Barham Salih. A source in the legal committee said that Saleh did not submit a resignation in the legal sense of the resignation, but he delivered a message to Parliament that included (in preparation for the resignation), which is a threat from the president because of the pressure he is being subjected to. And that there is a scenario that is being implemented by the Construction Coalition supported by Iran, which includes activating Saleh's resignation, and approval by Parliament in preparation for assigning Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi to carry out the tasks of the President of the Republic through which the candidate adopted by the blocs close to Iran be passed.
For his part, a member of the Iraqi parliament revealed that President Barham Salih had been subjected to death threats because he rejected the building coalition candidate.
Representative Muhammad Nouri Abd Rabu said that drones equipped with explosive devices flew over the presidential palace to deliver a threatening message to Saleh that his life would be in danger if he insisted on rejecting the largest bloc candidate.
Security sources in Baghdad accuse one of the Iranian-backed armed factions of threatening the President of the Republic, including messages he received on his phone and another through drones carrying explosives that can target the President’s headquarters. This came in conjunction with a strongly worded statement against President Saleh issued by the Hezbollah Brigades, the most powerful Iranian-backed Shiite faction.
The Brigades said in its statement that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, is implementing an American will that plans to drag the country into chaos and keep the political crisis without a way out to impose a new American occupation under international cover, confirming a hostile stance in favor of armed factions and parties loyal to Iran.

The "Sadikon" bloc representing the League of Militia: The resignation of the president means chaos and drag the country into civil war
29/12/2019 Baghdad:
The deputy of the Sadqoun Hassan Salem Bloc affirmed that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, violated the constitution in Article 76 of the constitution by refusing to assign the candidate of the largest bloc to the prime minister for more than once, in addition to submitting his resignation, he renounced responsibility and dragged the country into chaos.
Salem said in a press statement that: The constitution does not allow the President of the Republic to reject and all his justifications are unconstitutional and illegal, that he is waving that he is under pressure as if he is not a protector of the constitution that includes constitutional articles and did not refer to pressures, inclinations and emotions, even if it was really his concern to preserve the country. The type of these pressures, whether internal or external, and if he had the patriotism, he would act like the behavior of Mr. Adel Abdul-Mahdi, who rejected US pressure and threats.
He stressed that: Barham Saleh's actions put more than a question mark, especially that the constitutional vacuum and his resignation means chaos and drag the country into civil war, and this is what the American-Zionist Saudi project seeks.
The Secretary General of Asaib Ahl al-Haqq Qais Khazali stressed that if the President of the Republic was brave to submit his resignation in a constitutional manner, he emphasized that the resignation of the President of the Republic was not justified and the arguments were not sufficient. d
