The Lebanese minister pointed out that these goods are estimated at about one billion dollars according to 1993 prices. These Lebanese requests extend from 1993 until after 2003.

He added that the Iraqi authorities finally recognized the post-occupation period from 2003 to today, adding that Baghdad does not deny the debts accumulated since 1993, it recognizes them, but with a difference is a point of disagreement between us.

7-27-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   I simply don’t want to predict a timeframe. All we can do is look at the FACTS we have in front of us now. Right now we have the IMF and two Iraqi economists telling us that it will be 2 more months (mid September) before the govt can be formed. But remember the IMF is talking about the next SDR review scheduled for September and if Iraq does not have a govt by then they will bypass the payment on the SDR loan. This is what they are talking about. These other 2 economists are projecting out 2 months for a fully formed government meaning a full cabinet of ministers and parliament and everything else. The CBI is not looking for all of this. They only need the election results ratified, then new parliament and the new PM announced.   ...we also know the Iranian sanctions don’t really get fully kicked in until November. Any connection? This is all anyone knows. There is no “secret” information that anyone has to tell us any different. In fact, I don’t even believe the CBI or the GOI knows just when the reinstatement will occur either. Do they have an idea and a target? Of course they do.

7-26-2018   Newshound Guru Kaperoni‏  The CBI has done a great job the last few months reducing the spread to get within compliance of the IMF and continuing to maintain it. We are now about a 110 days 2% or below.

7-26-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   But what will the new government look like? This is literally their LAST chance at getting it right. This election cycle is pivotal to Iraq and potential investors. So yes, we may have to wait a bit longer but with rising oil prices and for them to clean house with all this corruption but this will assure that we get even a higher rate on the exchange. With the Iranian oil embargo and other sanctions and the exposure of all these corrupt officials, this is going to drive the price of oil upwards. Some say as much as $100-$120 a barrel again. Remember someone has to supply oil to these developed nations. If not Iran then who? Are they setting up Iraq to do it in the near future?   [post 3 of 3]
7-26-2018
Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   ISIS is done but the elections creeped upon us. Again, more opportunity to create more instability. But we know this is all being controlled and orchestrated for a reason. Yes, they have to take the bullet sometime and they decided that this election cycle they would finally clean up these corrupt politicians. ...Now the PTB are going to drive up the price of oil again and are lining up other events to make this happen. Is Iraq going to squander this opportunity again? Folks they are creating yet another opportunity for Iraq. ...I still stand firm to this conviction that this is when the reinstatement will occur and not before. This is why they are stalling the ratification of the elections because they know that once this is done they will have to move swiftly to the next step, which is the formation of the new government and the reinstatement of the currency.  [post 2 of 3....stay tuned]

7-26-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   ...I have said that the CBI and GOI are working together to ensure that the corruption is first cleaned up prior to any reinstatement. Yes, reinstatement not a revaluation. They are not about to unleash the new currency and new rate without assurances the currency will not crash and that the wealth from this currency will not be stolen or squandered...Again, we know that way back in 2012-2013 they had a golden opportunity to reinstate as everything lined up (was made to line up) and due to the corruption, it was passed by. Then came ISIS…and so we had to wait years to clean this up.  [post 1 of 3....stay tuned]

7-26-2018   Guest Guru Bloodloch    ...I'm going to guess that some prognosticators of dinar trends may be reading more than intended into the IMF demand that they seat their government before funds become available again, equating "seat the government" with "revalue the dinar exchange rate".  However that ultimately turns out, it does sound like the IMF is losing patience, and to what end I do tend to wonder. It does seem like some conclusion or end game may be at hand, and the world grows weary of waiting for Iraq to get their act together.

7-26-2018   Intel Guru Bruce   So you got the rates populating. You got the CBI connecting... You got the Forex... I just think we are in a very good place for what is going on. ...We are in a crucial timing right now. I have heard some things that lead me to believe we are right there, really right there. I am not calling it now. I am telling you things are very close.

7-26-2018  Newshound Guru Breitling  I haven’t seen anything negative.  Zero. Zip. Nothing.  Nada.   People were kind of in a panic because of the elections and stuff and the protests…but the country is still 70% Shia so nothing is going to change in the end…The numbers are for the Shia.  And it’s going to stay that way…

7-26-2018   Newshound Guru Kaperoni   ...the IMF is in control when they signed the Stand by Agreement back in 2015 giving them trustee over the CBIThere is no RV or RI ...only a gradual appreciation via a float.

7-26-2018   Newshound Guru chattels  Article:  "Dollar and gold exchange rates in Iraq on Wednesday"  Quote:  "The exchange rate of the dollar, on Wednesday, stabilized against the dinar in the local currency market.  According to the figures for "trend", the price of selling the dollar in Baghdad today was 119 thousand and 250 dinars and the purchase price 120 thousand 250 dinars compared to $ 100."   CBI appears to be maintaining compliance with the 2% variance between the Official / Parallel Market Rate although the auction volume has been elevated perhaps in an effort to so maintain by balancing supply demand on the dollar. [NOTE:  You can always see the CBI's official and market rate is listed on the left side of this page.]

7-25-2018 Guest Guru Bloodloch We're in a bit of limbo right now while waiting for Iraq to complete their election recount (reports are they are getting close), their federal court to certify those results (which should happen in fairly short order after the recounts), and the new government to be seated (which should theoretically happen almost instantly once the court certification is released). Some say that seating the new government is not necessary for a currency revaluation, but the CBI has stated that "stability" is one of the key elements (the other being "security") to moving ahead with the deletion of the 3 zeroes project. Stability, some claim, is intrinsically connected to removing the corruption associated with the currency auctions, and so that brings us back around again to the need to seat the new government and remove a large portion of corrupt politicians who, in losing their re-election, will lose their immunity from prosecution the moment they are declared no longer a part of the government. Unsubstantiated reports are that some of those "losing" politicians have already started fleeing the country. I remain cautiously skeptical, but we shall see. All we can do for now is to wait.

"Blood moon" eclipse, Mars pairing up for astronomical spectacle

The longest "blood moon" eclipse in this century will coincide with Mars' closest approach to Earth in 15 years to offer skygazers a thrilling astronomical double bill on Friday, astronomers say. For about half the world, the moon will be partly or fully in Earth's shadow from 1:14 p.m. to 7:28 p.m. ET — six hours and 14 minutes in all.
The period of complete eclipse — known as "totality," when the moon appears darkest — will last from 3:30 p.m. to 5:13 p.m. ET. "Totality will last for 103 minutes, making it the longest eclipse of the 21st century!" said the Royal Astronomical Society in London.
At the same time, Mars will hover near the moon in the night sky, easily visible with the naked eye. Our neighboring planet will appear unusually large and bright, a mere 35.9 million miles from Earth on its elliptical orbit around the sun.
"We have a rare and interesting conjunction of phenomena," Pascal Descamps, an astronomer with the Paris Observatory, told AFP. "We should have a coppery red tint on the moon with Mars the 'Red Planet' just next to it, very bright and with a slight orange hue itself."

On Friday, July 27, the full moon will pass through the shadow of the Earth. For 103 minutes, the usually silvery moon will turn blood red and ochre. It will be the longest “blood moon” lunar eclipse of the century, lasting 26 minutes longer than the last total lunar eclipse, in January.
Here’s the good news: The vast majority of people on planet Earth will be able to see this lunar eclipse.
Here’s the less good news: Those of us in North America (save for a slice of Newfoundland, Canada) will not see it at all.
Sadly, by the time night falls in North America and the full moon rises here, the eclipse will already have ended. The moon will have finished traversing Earth’s shadow, or umbra. We’ll have to wait until January 21, 2019, when the next full lunar eclipse will be viewable here.
