Iraq Boosting Crude Exports at Fastest Pace
https://financialtribune.com/ articles/energy/90034/iraq- boosting-crude-exports-at- fastest-pace
Iraq exported oil at the fastest pace since late 2016 during the first half of July, indicating OPEC’s second-largest producer is pumping more after the group eased production limits.
Crude shipments during the first two weeks of the month were 4.05 million bpd, the highest since November 2016, according to tanker tracking and port agent data compiled by Bloomberg.
That is 6% higher than the daily average of exports for all of June. Preliminary tanker tracking data are subject to change because shipments can be delayed and the average for a full month can be higher or lower. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and allied producers agreed last month to ease production cuts to ensure sufficient supply to markets, starting in July.
Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest exporter, and Russia said OPEC and partners would increase output by about 1 million bpd. They had been curtailing output since the start of 2017 to help curb a global glut.
Brent crude recovered from below $30 per barrel in 2016 to $80.50 per barrel in May this year. Iraq sold 3.84 million bpd of crude on average in June and pumped 4.5 million bpd that month, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That would indicate domestic refinery demand of about 650,000 bpd.
If Iraq maintains exports at the same level for all of July and domestic crude use remains consistent with June, the country would pump about 4.7 million bpd in July. That would be the highest monthly production ever, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Iraqi Oil Ministry Spokesman Asim Jihad said the country was committed to the output limit set by OPEC when asked about the country’s production level. Iraq’s output was capped at 4.35 million bpd under the 2016 deal.
While the country has exceeded that level every month since the start of the OPEC deal, Bloomberg data show, the group’s decision to raise output has called the country-level quotas into question because some members are unable to pump as much as they agreed.
"Iraq’s production is probably closer to 4.8 million bpd currently," said Jaafar Altaie, managing director of consultant Manaar Group in Abu Dhabi.

US Criticises Baghdad for Overlooking Hashd al-Shaabi’s Child Recruitment
ERBIL — The US State Department has criticised the Iraqi government for not investigating the reports of Hashd al-Shaabi’s recruitment of children and using them as soldiers.

An expert in Baghdad assessed that the rate of such recruitment and use of children did not change in 2017. Civil society organizations and local contacts reported in 2017 that posters commemorating minors who died while fighting for Shia militias were commonplace in Shia-majority areas of Baghdad and throughout southern Iraq,” State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report 2018 said.
According to the PMF official, social media site and posters in the street in mid-2017, the PMF offered military training courses to children and youth ages 15-25.”
The report criticises the Iraqi government for failing to hold the responsible sides accountable.
The government did not hold anyone criminally accountable despite several years of such allegations.”

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The high-level Iraqi delegation postponed its scheduled visit to the Saudi city of Jeddah to a further notice after it was scheduled to go to discuss the possibility of supplying the country with electricity.
Al-Quds Al-Arabi learned from a senior source within the delegation that "all the members of the delegation received the official visa to enter Saudi Arabia," noting that «all the arrangements for the visit were completed, but we were surprised that it was for one day only, and this time is not enough to discuss all the files and arrange the delegation's papers» .
According to the source, who preferred not to be identified, the postponement of the visit to another notice, comes to «extend its time longer than one day», in addition to «the order of the Iraqi delegation all files in an integrated manner, in preparation for the launch in Jeddah».
He added: «Iraq will see great openness to Saudi Arabia in all sectors, after Iran closed its doors to Iraq in the file to provide us with electric power», pointing out that «Saudi Arabia opened its arms to Iraq at this sensitive time, and expressed its willingness to provide support and all files» . According to the source, "the Saudi side told Iraq that it is ready to influence its partners and allies in the region, such as Turkey, to solve their problems with Iraq, such as the water file and others."
Iraqi Planning Minister Salman al-Jumaili, head of the Iraqi side of the Iraqi-Saudi Council, was to head a high-level delegation to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Al-Jumaili said in a statement that the delegation's visit comes at the behest of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, adding that "the delegation includes the ministers of oil, Abdul-Jabbar al-Allaibi, electricity Qassim al-Fahdawi, transport Kazem al-Hamami and a number of general managers In a number of ministries ».
He added that «the delegation will discuss with the Saudi side a number of issues and important files in the framework of the Iraqi Coordination Council Saudi», pointing out that «the energy file, which includes electricity and fuel will be one of the most important files to be discussed with the Saudi side».
The delegation will also discuss other issues related to «activating the air, sea and land transport between the two countries».
Iran decided to stop exporting electricity to Iraq about four weeks ago, at the height of the summer, on the back of problems related to the transfer of Iraq to the amounts due to Tehran. Iraq produces 15.7 thousand megawatts of electricity, and imports from Iran 1200 megawatts, while needs 23 thousand megawatts to ensure non-interruption of electricity for Iraqis, and the result is 12 hours a day representing the rate of power cuts for the Iraqi provinces
Iraqi Electricity Minister Qassem Al-Fahdawi (pictured) said yesterday that his country has failed to convince Iran to resume supplying Iraq with electricity.
Last Friday, Al-Fahdawi along with an Iraqi delegation arrived in Tehran where they held talks with Iranian officials to resume supplying Iraq with 1,000 megawatts of electricity, which Tehran cut off about two weeks ago due to the accumulation of debts owed by Baghdad.
Al-Fahdawi explained in a statement received by Anadolu News Agency that his ministry “has put [forward] an alternative plan to importing electricity from Iran”.
Iraq has been importing electricity from Iran for many years after their power infrastructure was destroyed by decades of war and blockade.
According to figures released by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in August, last year the country produces 15,700 megawatts of electricity, however it needs more than 23,000 megawatts of electricity to meet its population needs.
The power outage caused by the Iranian move contributed to fueling violent protests in the southern Iraq provinces which led to at least five people being killed and 190 wounded after security forces fired on protesters.

The chief of staff to President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that US President Donald Trump’s people asked for a meeting with Rouhani eight times during the UN General Assembly last year.
“During Mr. Rouhani’s last visit to New York for the UN General Assembly, President Trump’s office eight times conveyed to the Iranian delegation a call to have a meeting with the president,” Mahmoud Vaezi told reporters, according to Mehr News Agency.
He said the Iranian team did not respond to the requests, which came just after Trump announced he would no longer certify Iran’s compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal–setting the scene for his eventual withdrawal from the pact in May.
“We have a transparent policy and clear position with regard to our relations with the US... that (we) will not yield to pressure,” Vaezi said.
Tehran said in October that the Trump White House had requested talks with Rouhani during the annual UNGA meeting. However, the claim of several requests had never been made.
The embattled US president has said he is open to talks on a new deal with Iran that goes beyond its nuclear program to include its regional policies and missile defense systems. Iran has said that the two key subjects are not negotiable.

Iran Thursday, July 19, 2018
Two goals set have been set for the recent establishment of the so-called “Secondary Forex Market”, namely meeting the country’s monetary needs through non-oil exports and setting a non-government-issued rate for foreign currencies, using negotiation as cover.
According to the economist Amir Houshang Amini, neither of which will result in anything but all-encompassing corruption stemming from the freedom allowed for the price of the dollar in an otherwise command economy.
Last week, the Central Bank of Iran announced the inauguration of the Secondary Forex Market, wherein importers and exporters are allowed to set a negotiated dollar rate for making transactions.

China is the world's biggest oil buyer — but its demand may be slowing down soon
Business InsiderThe flow of crude oil is seen in a container while an oilfield worker works on a drilling rig at an oil well operated by Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA Carlos Garcia Rawlins/Reuters Rising oil prices are hurting China's previously torrid demand for oil. What's hurting demand more, is a tighter tax regime on some Chinese refiners. This could hurt global oil demand in time. Oil demand growth in the world's biggest oil importer-China-is at risk of slowing down, at least in the coming months. Read the full story

7-18-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni A very interesting point was made today...as banks are posting articles stating that despite the interruption and internet service all ATMs are functioning and dispensing cash... The ATMs in Iraq are up and running dispensing 3 zero notes as needed... ...There is no RV or RI. It is my full expectation that the dinar will float and gradually appreciate over time providing the tool that the CBI needs to counter inflationary pressure as substantial investment and investors come in to participate in the rebuilding of Iraq. This is not an overnight event. When will that occur? Well there are conflicting opinions some say the government must be formed first others believe that it's too risky and that they should begin as soon as possible. We will just have to wait and see but I do believe it'll be this year.

7-18-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat DEMONSTRATIONS IN BASRA... I will tell everyone that the main reason why people are demonstrating now in BASRA area is mostly stemming all from the lack of electricity. This section of the country has been importing electricity from Iran. The Iraqi government has not paid its electric bill to Iran and so Iran has cut off electricity for about a month now. This would not have happened under other circumstances. The govt of Iraq has the money to build power plants but can’t move forward with the plans to build gas run electric generation plants throughout Iraq and get off of Iranian grid until the govt is formed and these contracts can be executed.
7-18-2018 Newshound Guru Adam Montana We’re still in the same situation as late last week ...Abadi is moving forward “as-if” the elections were over, and that’s a good thing. Its NOT a good thing for those of you that want an RV by Friday, because it’s pretty apparent that we’re a couple short weeks away from an official announcement of the next complete GOI. All things hinge on GOI right now… wrap that up, then we have a clear path to HCL, and then, dare I say “suddenly”?
7-18-2018 Intel/Newshound Guru sandyf Many seem to be of the opinion that it revolves around a single event with focus on "delete the 3 zeros". That may not be the case. Previous information from the CBI was fairly clear that "delete the 3 zeros" referred to a redenomination and the last statement on timeline indicated 2019. Redenominations do not happen overnight, most and in the case of Iraq, require a Bill to pass through parliament. When that happens everyone will know about it but a timeline cannot be established until the Bill gets passed into law. Preparations are normally in the order of 1-2 years so very unlikely Iraq would be in a position to implement a redenomination before 2021. If we are to see a beneficial return on the IQD, it would need to happen before any redenomination was activated. I have seen some fairly good indications from outside dinarland and cautiously optimistic for the latter part of the year.
7-18-2018 Intel Guru Bruce I just like to say thank you to this current administration beginning with President Trump, with Vice President Pence, some of the cabinet members as well, the administration, because guys without them we would not have this blessing moving like we do right now. ...I think the proximity is right there. Maybe it is a significant day. [post 2 of 2]
7-18-2018 Intel Guru Bruce ...Iraq has basically completed everything we thought they needed to do except announce the new rate or put the rate out publicly... We are looking for an announcement from Iraq. We don’t know if it will come from Abadi or will it come from Shabbi and Abadi... There has been a major media blackout out of Iraq for the last several days...at least 3 to 4 days maybe longer with no media, no social media, nothing. ...we know that things are moving along nicely. ... They has been celebrations, dancing, quite a bit we have heard about and is occurring. Yes, we have been able to find out a little bit despite the blackout. So we are looking forward to it completely opening up and being ready. [post 1 of 2....stay tuned]

7-17-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat Many asked me about the significance of the announcement of Iraq getting off the FATF list. The importance of this announcement is that the presence of any country in the gray or black list or under the strict follow-up within the evaluation of the group mentioned MEANS THAT THERE IS WEAKNESS IN THE SYSTEM OF COMBATING CORRUPTION AND FINANCING TERRORISM, HIGH RISK AND THUS LEAD TO THE RELUCTANCE OF INVESTORS TO ENTER IT, has been noted since 2012 since the failure of Iraq to comply with 15 of the recommendations of the main recommendations on the fight against money laundering and recorded up to seven hundred notes. So now Iraq is off this list so what does this tell you? They have implemented the necessary reforms to combat corruption and financial terrorism. This is all very good news since we know there was no way the IMF was going to release the reinstatement unless they put these measures in place.
