Iran's power exports to Iraq halted due to soaring debt: ministry
Iraq, July 8, 2018
Power exports from Iran to Iraq were halted due to Iraq’s soaring debt owed for electricity, the Ministry of Electricity said on Friday (July 6).
The limited power supplies from Iran would potentially damage Iraq’s efforts to provide enough electricity to a population suffering chronic shortages particularly in Dhi Qar, Maysan and Basra provinces, ministry spokesman Mosaab al-Mudaris said.
Power imports of around 1,000 megawatts from Iran were cut amid the sizzling Iraqi summer, according to Mudaris.
Iraq struggles to meet demand during summer as temperatures frequently exceed 50 Celsius and air conditioning units run constantly.
The demand stood at 23,000 MW in 2017, Iraqi Ministry of Electricity said, and the shortfall is at around 45 percent.
Electricity supplies collapsed in the chaos after the US invasion in 2003 when power plants were looted or then not properly maintained in the years afterward.
Islamic State (ISIS) militants have targeted transmission towers and other infrastructure in subsequent years, while the Baghdad government has been unable to keep up with demand.

7-8-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat Article: "MONETARY POLICY .. FIXED RATE OR PARTLY FLOATING?" So I have to ask this - does Iraq fit any ...criterion to go to a “full float” or even a “creeping or partial float”? If it does not then why would they want to move the currency to FOREX and put it on a float, according to t his article? The answer is they would not, according to this article. But ... there is so much more that this article is explaining as to lingering flock of investors and the need for Iraq to bring in loads of investment money into Iraq. This means an international currency (no way around it) and so why make all these changes to banking and financial reforms and bring upto international standards, if they did not intend to go international and on FOREX?
7-8-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru tman23 Rate will be 4.25 or 6.14 and have a worthy piece of history in print which leads me to such a possibility.

7-8-2018 Newshound Guru Mnt Goat Sadr has these corrupted politicians worried and shaking in their boots over the charges of corruption. He is coming for them… We read also today that in fact, if Sadr has his way, Nori al-Maliki is going to be one of them. I can assure you prosecuting Maliki may bring some unrest at first, but in the long run it will bring so much order and peace to Iraq. It is well worth the risk. But first they must settle the election results and make sure he does not “bargain” his way into yet another govt position to protect his immunity again as he did in 2014. As far as I know...he has no bargaining power. But as long as they keep this re-counting of ballots charade going, this will buy him time to come up with something. I fully believe this is the real culprit behind these recounting shenanigans they are playing.

Great health benefits for sleeping side by side
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Sleeping on a side-by-side basis has many health benefits, other than sleep on the back, which is a serious headache, especially for pregnant women and heart patients, a recent study suggests.
According to a study published in the British Medical Journal in Britain, sleep on the side is more useful for the work of the digestive organs, breathing, heart and brain health.
Sleeping on the left side before birth reduces the risk of having dead fetuses, and those who suffer from sleep apnea are also asked to change attitudes to their family, researchers say.
In the case of snoring, it is also likely that sleep on the back is one of the causes of disturbing sounds that are very disturbing, especially between couples.
The expert at the Academy of Sleep in the German capital Berlin, Alexander Blue, that the lungs work better in the human body when sleeping on one side, other than what happens in the position of the back.
