Iraq fails to convince Iran to resume power imports
Iraq, July 18, 2018
Iraqi Electricity Minister Qassem Al-Fahdawi said yesterday that his country has failed to convince Iran to resume supplying Iraq with electricity.
Last Friday, Al-Fahdawi along with an Iraqi delegation arrived in Tehran where they held talks with Iranian officials to resume supplying Iraq with 1,000 megawatts of electricity, which Tehran cut off about two weeks ago due to the accumulation of debts owed by Baghdad.
Al-Fahdawi explained in a statement received by Anadolu News Agency that his ministry “has put [forward] an alternative plan to importing electricity from Iran”.
Iraq has been importing electricity from Iran for many years after their power infrastructure was destroyed by decades of war and blockade.
According to figures released by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in August, last year the country produces 15,700 megawatts of electricity, however it needs more than 23,000 megawatts of electricity to meet its population needs.
The power outage caused by the Iranian move contributed to fueling violent protests in the southern Iraq provinces which led to at least five people being killed and 190 wounded after security forces fired on protesters.middleeastmonitord

At least eight people are dead and dozens injured in weeklong protests over jobs and basic services, Iraq’s Ministry of Health spokesman Saif al-Bader said Monday. The protests started in the southern Iraq port city of Basra and spread to different areas of the country. At least 56 people have been wounded, seven of them critically, Bader said in a press conference, CNN reported.
Of the eight dead, two were killed in Basra, two in Najaf, three in al-Simawa and one in Karbala. A ministry health worker was killed in a car accident related to the protests and one ambulance worker remains in critical condition, Bader said.
The Ministry of Electricity has taken steps to improve service in Basra, said spokesman Musa’ab al-Mudaris at the same press conference.Angry protests over unemployment and the lack of basic services have spread across southern Iraq since last week, as the oil-rich country tries to recover after many years of war.
Starting in Basra, the protests were exacerbated by issues such as sweltering heat, power cuts, water quality and sanitation problems. The outpouring on the street spread through other provinces in the country’s Shia heartland in the south, such as Dhi Qar, Najaf, Maysan and Babil. Protests also took place in Baghdad, the nation’s capital.
While some protests have been largely peaceful, others included rock-throwing, setting tires and buildings on fire and blocking roads.Hundreds demonstrated at oil installations, political parties and government buildings. Internet outages have been widespread except for Irbil and other Kurdish areas in northern Iraq.

I raq is pumping oil at normal levels even as protests spread across the southern region from where OPEC’s second-biggest producer exports most of its crude, a government spokesman said. “Production and exports from southern Iraq are stable as per normal levels,” Oil Ministry Spokesman Asim Jihad also said by phone, Bloomberg reported. Authorities have deployed security forces to protect energy fields and facilities in the region, he added. Protests broke out last week in the southern province of Basra by residents asking for jobs at some of the country’s giant oilfields operated by international companies such as ExxonMobil Corp. and Lukoil PJSC. Iraqis have protested about unemployment and inadequate public services, including power and water shortages ever since the US-led invasion of 2003. Iraq has been rebuilding its energy industry and ranks second only to Saudi Arabia for production within the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The country is pumping 4.55 million barrels per day and its exports have reached 3.52 million bpd in June, the International Energy Agency said.

I n the July 2018 update of its Short–Term Energy Outlook, the US Energy Information Administration forecasts that Brent crude oil prices will average $73 per barrel in the second half of 2018 and $69 per barrel in 2019.
EIA expects West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices to average $7 per barrel lower than Brent prices in the second half of 2018 and $7 per barrel lower in 2019, World Oil reported. Its forecast of global liquid fuels balances indicates a looser oil market in the second half of 2018 and through the end of 2019 compared with the tight oil market conditions that prevailed in 2017 and the first half of 2018.
Although global petroleum and other liquid fuels inventories declined by an average of 0.5 million bpd in 2017, EIA expects inventories to be relatively unchanged in 2018 and to increase by 0.6 million bpd in 2019.
The forecast inventory builds in 2019 are mainly the result of expected liquid fuels production growth in the United States, Brazil, Canada and Russia.EIA forecasts that these countries will collectively provide 2.2 million bpd out of the 2.4 million bpd of total global supply growth in 2019.Supply growth of this magnitude would outpace EIA’s forecast for global liquid fuels consumption growth of 1.7 million bpd for 2019.
EIA forecasts total US crude oil production to average 10.8 million bpd in 2018, up 1.4 million bpd from 2017 and 11.8 million bpd in 2019.If realized, the forecast level for both years would surpass the previous US record of 9.6 million bpd set in 1970.Crude oil production at these forecast levels would probably make the US the world’s leading crude oil producer in both years.

7-17-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat Many asked me about the significance of the announcement of Iraq getting off the FATF list. The importance of this announcement is that the presence of any country in the gray or black list or under the strict follow-up within the evaluation of the group mentioned MEANS THAT THERE IS WEAKNESS IN THE SYSTEM OF COMBATING CORRUPTION AND FINANCING TERRORISM, HIGH RISK AND THUS LEAD TO THE RELUCTANCE OF INVESTORS TO ENTER IT, has been noted since 2012 since the failure of Iraq to comply with 15 of the recommendations of the main recommendations on the fight against money laundering and recorded up to seven hundred notes. So now Iraq is off this list so what does this tell you? They have implemented the necessary reforms to combat corruption and financial terrorism. This is all very good news since we know there was no way the IMF was going to release the reinstatement unless they put these measures in place.
7-17-2018 Newshound Guru chattels I find myself favoring a new terminology for the liquidity event we hope for as value and return from our investment in the IQD. My new word for it is " Reset ". My active thought is that we cannot rule out anything and must allow for that which we may not like. In any event we must all find a theory which sustains us and the hope of a good outcome. If we do not finish the race we cannot know whether there will be a prize for participation at a minimum, eh?

Abadi warns of the collapse of the state and says: freedom without responsibility become a mess [enlarged]
2018/7/17 23:50
[Ayna-Baghdad]
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi warned of the collapse of the state after the escalation of demonstrations in the center and south.
"The most important goals since we took over the responsibility of the government is to achieve security throughout the country, which in turn will achieve economic stability and provide services to the citizens," he stressed at a weekly press conference on Tuesday.
He added that "a large part of security has been achieved and we do not want to lose our people this great gain because we have achieved great sacrifices and groans and gave mothers and grandchildren to remove the alarm from Iraq and we can not overheat this security at all," noting that "we follow the demands and needs of citizens in all provinces and These legitimate demands, and directed the directors of departments and ministries concerned to meet the real demands that can be implemented at the present time.
"All our visits to countries around the world were focused on supporting Iraq by confronting terrorism, restoring stability, improving the living standards of citizens and creating jobs," he said.
He pointed out that "we visited the province of Basra and met with representatives of a group of provinces and we personally listened to all segments of Iraqi society on the provision of services and their suffering in basic services of water and electricity and job creation for young people, and directed security forces in all provinces to maintain the safety of citizens and respect peaceful demonstration, As well as to prevent any attack on public and private property or assault on citizens. "
He added that "the duty of the government and the security services is to implement the law and protect the interests of the state and vital installations, companies, airports and all state institutions." He said: "We distinguish between legitimate demands that we listen to and respond to, and others who do not want the good of Iraq and want to exploit the peaceful manifestations to create acts of sabotage and the burning of institutions, On the police and security forces. "
"I extend my hand to all the peaceful demonstrators and tell them, let us all cooperate because I want to hear your voice and your demands and cooperate to hand over those who are among you and expose them and they must be extradited to the judiciary because they want to bring your country back and destroy it and want to waste all our achievements," he said. We have listened to many demands during the previous demonstrations and recognize that there is a defect in some joints of the state and therefore we want to listen to the citizen to alert us of the imbalances to cooperate together to accelerate the provision of services and prevent those who want to characterize the demonstrations off track.
"The security forces are the sons of the homeland and we have to keep them and listen to them as well," he said, recalling that "I called yesterday for the meeting of the political blocs to see the procedures and response. To the legitimate popular demands and agreed on a unified position that serves the interests of our people and preserves our country and follow up on popular demands along with respect for law and peaceful demonstration. "
He said, "Our fear is not from the demonstrators, but from the acts of violence by a few despicable elements, but they are organized and they want to harm the demonstrators and the country. Over the past years, the province of Basra has spent billions of dollars, but poor planning and lack of organization and waste of public funds have all This needs accountability. "
He added, "We formed a crisis cell to follow up on the demands of the demonstrators because we do not want them to be mere promises, and no one is above the law and everyone is subject to justice if he is guilty. Freedom without responsibility becomes chaos, incitement to violence is a crime and assault on security forces, Crime ", noting" we respect the media and salute reporters because they convey information and are always at risk, but there are rules must be adhered to and the media to put controls on his work. "
He stressed the "speed up the formation of the new government and parliament and the Commission to accelerate the resolution of the results and there is keenness of all political blocs to speed up the formation of the new government and parliament," explaining that "there is a state of dissatisfaction with the citizen about the political process or some politicians evidence of the participation rate in the elections" .
"The peaceful demonstration is a civilizational phenomenon, and we may hear from a citizen of a word that sings about many decisions, and part of the demands of the citizens is sound and true, but I amware of the explosion that does not serve anyone. The collapse of the state leads to great problems because everything is collapsing and we are still suffering from the collapse of the state. After the fall of the dictatorship and therefore the explosion will destroy everyone. "
He pointed out that "the person who talks about the lack of funds to provide services is not true, but the imbalance is in the implementation of the measures and the delay in their implementation generates the explosion. The citizens are very concerned and do not want to fall into the trap and we all have to cooperate, especially the leaders and politicians." If you can not do your part you have to resign and give room to others. "
Al-Abbadi concluded his conference saying: "I wish that the collection would be by the Ministry of Electricity and not the private sector. The first objective of the collection is to stop waste of energy and the citizen to feel the value of energy and stop the waste and do not exceed the network, stopping the waste and bypassing the electricity grid will be sufficient, We control the energy and stop waste even if we doubled the production will not suffice and the simple citizen will be affected first by this. "

Huge facts about the financial losses of the Internet cut in Iraq
2018/7/17 22:42
[Ayna-Baghdad]
Market Wings, a digital marketing and social media consultancy, has revealed huge financial losses to Iraq as a result of cutting off the Internet.
"The Internet is a part of life and the daily need of people in various sectors such as education, health, security and commerce," he said in a statement on Tuesday. "Governments can not invoke false pretexts And deprive this right of people according to their wishes. "
"The statements of Coastline and House Blocs, which guessed the effects and opportunities, show that shutting down Internet lines and social media makes Iraq lose $ 40 million a day," she said.
"We will follow through with our partners in the world this issue accurately, and we will continue to work to restore the digital rights of people," the company said.
The Internet service returned to Iraq Monday morning after a two-day break, the longest since the service began in 2003.
The service continues to experience general weakness in most cities. The Ministry of Communications attributed the weakness of the public and the almost complete disruption of the Internet service witnessed by most Iraqi cities since last Saturday, which coincided with the popular demonstrations continued for more than a week as a result of the maintenance and introduction of new lines of service.
