27/01/2020
The Sunday rocket attack reportedly resulted in the destruction and burning of the restaurant of the US embassy in Baghdad, a former Iraqi FM has revealed.
At least five Katyusha rockets fell inside the Green Zone, where the US embassy and other Iraqi government's offices are located, on Sunday evening.
Although initial reports said that there were no casualties or damages from the incident, Hoshyar Zebari, a former Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed that the US diplomatic building came under a direct rocket attack.
"The compound of USEmbassy in Baghdad received a direct rockets hit by unruly militia. The Embassy restaurant or canteen was damaged and burned," Zebari wrote on Twitter.
"This is a very dangerous game by PMF uncontrolled factions to galvanize the tense situation. It must stop."
Pro-Iranian militia groups have previously threatened to target the US interests in Iraq. They intensified their threatenings after the killing of Iran's Qassem Soleimani, a top military commander.

Four candidates are waiting for Saleh to arrive to assign one of them as prime minister .. Who are they?
January 27, 2020 | 1:04 PM - Views: 420 views
Iraqi Position Network
On Sunday, the deputy from the Al-Fateh Alliance Fadel Jaber revealed a semi-final agreement for the political blocs to nominate one of the four candidates for prime minister once President of the Republic Barham Salih arrived in Baghdad, noting that Abdul-Ghani Al-Asadi is the strongest of the four, where he entered strongly to compete.
Jaber said in a press statement that "the number of candidates proposed was in the dozens, and after their nomination by the political blocs, and with a near-certain agreement, the names were limited between Ali Al-Shukri, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, Mustafa Al-Kazemi and Abdul-Ghani Al-Asadi."
He added that “Al-Asadi entered strongly through his enjoyment of specifications that match the demand of the rational authority and the demonstrators, as well as his respect by the political blocs”, noting that “the next government will be obligated to prepare for early elections and implement the parliament’s decision to schedule the withdrawal of foreign forces.”
Clashes in Baghdad ... protesters accuse Sadr of "treason"
27 January 2020 8:17
Security forces used live bullets to disperse demonstrators in the Al-Khulani and Al-Wathba areas
Iraqi protesters cut off roads in the city of Najaf (Reuters)
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, announced that he stopped supporting the anti-government demonstrations, and his fans withdrew from the squares. On Saturday evening, protesters met him with angry movements in a number of Iraqi cities, at dawn on Sunday, after describing Sadr's position as "treachery and betrayal."
Al-Sadr, who described the protesters' chants in the capital Baghdad as "the tail" of Iran, was organizing a demonstration, on Friday, calling for the exit of the American forces from the country, which received wide support from the parties loyal to Iran, which is considered a political rapprochement between the Shiite leader and Tehran.
Doubts about collusion
However, the Iraqi protesters' anger at the withdrawal of Sadr from the protests, which started in October 2019, and his accusation of "treason," is due to the coincidence of the exit of his supporters as security forces stormed the sit-in camps in Baghdad, Basra, and Nasiriyah, in what the activists seemed to be a sign of collusion between two sides.
On Sunday morning, security forces used live bullets again to disperse demonstrators in the Al-Khulani and Al-Wathba areas of the capital.
A source told Agence France-Presse that at least 17 protesters were wounded, including six by gunfire.
On the other hand, the protesters threw stones at the riot police and threw Molotov cocktails at them.
In Nasiriyah in the south, security forces also used live bullets, but there were no reports of any injuries.
Sadr supporters had left the sit-in camps during the night hours.
Since its inception, its supporters have supported the protests. At times, they played a role in protecting protestors from attacks by security forces and unknown armed men.
Lead and gas
Police and medical sources said that Iraqi security forces fired bullets and tear gas, on Saturday, during their raid on protest yards in the capital and the cities of Basra and Nasiriyah, killing four people and wounding dozens.
Journalists from the Reuters news agency said that clashes took place after the authorities began removing concrete barriers near Tahrir Square, where anti-government protesters have been protesting for months, and at least one major bridge over the Tigris River.
In the city of Basra, in the south of the country, security sources said that demonstrators returned to the main sit-in, which was raided by the security forces on Friday night, and set tires and closed one of the main roads. The police arrested at least 16 protesters.
Security and medical sources said that one person was killed and at least 30 people were wounded in clashes between police and protesters near Tahrir Square in Baghdad.
Medical and medical sources said that three others were killed and 14 wounded in the city of Nasiriyah, in the south of the country, after security forces took control of a bridge that had been occupied by the protesters days ago.
Iranian Resistance: The Iraq uprising rocked Khamenei
Hussein, the advocate of Islam The seven continents
Today - Tirana
Jan 27/2020
The Iranian resistance stressed that the Iraqi people's uprising against the domination and control of the mullahs over their country shook the land under Khamenei's feet.
Of course, Khamenei took into account the probability of popular protest demonstrations against his rule in Iran or against his interference in the region, but he never imagined that the whole region would rise in one go against the hegemony of Akhtaboot, Wilayat al-Faqih, So it turned into a nightmare for him.
The supplication and killing of the Iranian people has always been the job and work of the mullahs ruling in Iran all along, and depending on the implementation of this policy through the criminal executioner called Qassem Soleimani, Khamenei aspired to achieve high aspirations, thinking about taking the region and forming the sectarian crescent, and an empire "The guardian of the world's Muslims," and he imagined long-term hopes, wishes, and long-term illusions.
»Soleimani Liquidation
A member of the Iranian National Resistance Council said: The elimination of Qassem Soleimani, the second person in the government of the mullahs and the real foreign minister of Khamenei, accompanied by Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis who was one of the most prominent mercenaries in the state of al-Faqih in Iraq, was an irreplaceable blow, as it appears that the rules of Khamenei's play in foreign policy Going through a serious crisis.
Da'i al-Islam continues: Khamenei's next step was to use the apparent wave of anti-corruption that Muqtada al-Sadr had to follow, following: This Mullah, who was claiming moderation throughout the period of the protests even after his return from Iran, while he was going among the protesters, arguing for his solidarity with them deceptively, but After the killing of Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, he fully sided with "Wilayat al-Faqih," and sought to draw protests towards the anti-American front.
They pointed out that Muqtada al-Sadr called for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq, while he was in the city of "Qom", but the forces of the uprising showed that he would not be deceived.
In the conclusion of his speech, he said: The earth is shaking under the feet of Khamenei and his internal and external agents, day after day, and the promising days are an ally of the Iranian people and the region.

Iraqi Caretaker PM Condemns Rocket Attack on US Embassy
Iraq's caretaker PM Adil Abdul Mahdi has condemned the rocket attack on the US embassy in Baghdad, saying that such incidents would harm the country's relations with its partners.
Multiple reports said that five Katyusha rockets fell inside the fortified Green Zone in the capital city, where the US embassy and other foreign diplomatic facilities are located.
"We denounce the continuation of these condemned and outlawed acts that weaken the state and undermine its sovereignty," Abdul Mahdi said in a statement, as cited by Xinhua.
Abdul Mahdi, who is also commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, noted that he had ordered the security forces to find the perpetrators behind the attack, reminding that such incidents would hurt Iraq's ties with its partners.
"The continuation of such irresponsible act, which makes the entire country to bear its consequences and serious repercussions, would lead to damage to the country's higher interests and its relations with its friends, which may turn Iraq to a battlefield."
He further reiterated his government's commitment to protecting "all diplomatic missions and take all necessary measures in accordance with the law."
A US official confirmed to CNN that one of the rockets hit a dining facility, pointing out that there were reportedly minor damages, as cited by AFP.
Meanwhile, Hoshyar Zebari, a former Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, wrote on Twitter that the restaurant of the US embassy was burned as a result of the incident.
"The compound of USEmbassy in Baghdad received a direct rockets hit by unruly militia. The Embassy restaurant or canteen was damaged and burned. This is a very dangerous game by PMF uncontrolled factions to galvanize the tense situation. It must stop."
However, the US diplomatic mission has not yet confirmed the reports of any damages to the canteen.
Iraq Protests: A Dozen Killed, Hundreds Injured in Two Days
A dozen of protesters have been killed in Iraq in the past two days, while hundreds were injured, Iraq's High Commission of Human Rights confirmed on Sunday.
The commission further explained that nine protesters were killed in the capital Baghdad, while three others were left dead in the southern city of Nasiriyah.
Moreover, 230 people were also injured, including demonstrators and security personnel, the statement added, noting that 118 of them were registered in Baghdad and the rest were in Dhi Qar and Basra provinces.
The security forces, in the meantime, have arrested a total of 89 protesters in Baghdad and Basra during the past 48 hours, according to the press release.
After Iraqi powerful Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr announced on Saturday that he would halt his support to the anti-government protests, the security forces raided the camps of the demonstrators in separate areas across Iraq, intensifying their efforts to end the demonstrations.
Iraq has been rocked by mass protests since early October, over 600 protesters have so far been killed and more than 25,000 others suffered from injuries.
Al-Ghabban affirms: The next prime minister will fulfill the aspirations of the people

The head of the Al-Fath Alliance, Muhammad al-Ghabban, affirmed that efforts and endeavors are continuing to nominate the candidate who will be assigned to form the new government "according to the criteria and mechanisms that achieve the aspirations of the people."
The Al-Fateh alliance works very hard with the other partners to overcome the obstacles that exist in this path by moving away from the policy of dominance and imposing visions on the other to achieve factional and personal interests as stated in the directives of the supreme religious authority.
The “Harak of Iraq” between the suppression of power and the withdrawal of the Sadrists
Baghdad - Al-Bayan, agencies
Date: January 27, 2020
It seems that the Iraqi authorities took a decision to end the protests by force, and this trend confirms the decision of the Sadrist leader, Muqtada al-Sadr, to withdraw his supporters from them after they were one of the main pillars of the movement. Yesterday, 4 demonstrators were killed and another number of protesters were wounded by Iraqi security forces, three in Dhi Qar Governorate and a fourth in Baghdad.
Journalists said that Iraqi security forces raided Tahrir Square, the main sit-in in Baghdad, and fired live bullets and tear gas at anti-government protesters, who had been staging there for months. Eyewitnesses stated that the Iraqi forces launched a campaign to burn the sit-in tents at Tahrir Square.
They added that the tongues of fire and clouds of black smoke covered the place of the demonstration linking the two cells of Al-Khulani and Al-Tahrir, among the demonstrators' cries of "blood for the sake of our blood, we redeem you, Iraq," and the heavy deployment of Iraqi forces chasing the demonstrators.
Clashes continue between the demonstrators and the security forces in Al-Wathba Square, where the security forces use live bullets and tear gas to pursue the demonstrators who use stones against the security forces. On the other hand, eyewitnesses reported that the Rafidain Bank branch building in Tahrir Square was burned.
The clashes occurred after the authorities began removing concrete barriers near Tahrir Square and at least one major bridge over the Tigris River in Baghdad.
Activists had announced yesterday that a large security force had surrounded the Tahrir Square in central Baghdad since the early morning hours, and they said that the force was trying to storm the square to break up the sit-ins by force, after it deliberately raised the concrete blocks in al-Khilani Square.
In the southern city of Basra, security forces raided the main anti-government sit-in during the night, and deployed heavily to prevent protesters from gathering there again. The sources added that the police arrested at least 16 protesters in Basra.
Governmental plan
Activists revealed the existence of a government plan, to restrict the protest movements to specific arenas, and arrest all protesters outside, and then attack and burn those arenas, as happened in Basra, yesterday, where a force of "shock forces" stormed the sit-in in the province at dawn. A local source said, "A force belonging to the shock forces in Basra Governorate, consisting of about 80 wheels and 250 security personnel, stormed the province's sit-in square and arrested a number of protesters present in the tents, and then set them on fire."
The security forces raids began just hours after Muqtada Al-Sadr announced that he would end any participation of his supporters in the anti-government demonstrations. Protesters in Basra appealed to Sadr to reconsider what they described as withdrawal to support popular demonstrations. In a message circulated on social media, they called for support from Sadr's supporters, without whom the protesters feared attacks from the security forces.
Observers stated that the government’s tendency to open roads came in conjunction with the “Sadr demonstrations”, and issued a directive that the Sadrist movement withdraw from the sit-in areas, which was met with strong condemnation by the demonstrators, who accused Sadr of “treachery and treachery,” and agreeing with armed factions loyal to Iran On ending the popular movement, according to a strongly worded statement issued by the Supreme Central Committee for Coordination in Iraq. d
Three people were killed as streets reopened in Baghdad ... and feared that the protests would be resolved
Sunday January 27, 2020
Baghdad - Wakalat: Three demonstrators were killed in Iraq yesterday, as authorities reopened squares and streets in Baghdad and southern cities.
A protester was killed in Baghdad and two others in the city of Nasiriyah, with live bullets yesterday, according to medical sources, during clashes with security forces.
The same sources reported that more than 65 protesters were injured in the two governorates.
The security forces ’actions come in the wake of a large demonstration called by the Sadrist movement leader Muqtada Al-Sadr in Baghdad to demand the departure of the American forces from Iraq, after which he announced that he had stopped supporting the protest demonstrations.
Medics said that by yesterday morning, security forces had started using tear gas and live bullets, and had removed tents in the center of the capital, wounding at least 19 protesters.
A protesting doctor told France Presse that she saw riot police set ablaze large tents used as field clinics to treat wounded protesters.
On Friday evening, the security forces stormed the protest square in the southern city of Basra, burning a number of tents and forcibly dispersing the protesters.
In Baghdad, the security forces evacuated the protesters square, Muhammad al-Qasim Highway and Al-Ahrar Bridge in the center of the capital on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Baghdad Operations Command.
The security forces also reopened Al-Ahrar Bridge, one of the most important bridges that witnessed during the past period, hit-and-run operations with the demonstrators.
This bridge connects the sides of Rusafa and Karkh, to the heavily fortified Green Zone that houses government offices and foreign embassies.
In the central Tahrir Square for protests in central Baghdad, protesters said they heard gunfire and tear gas.
Yesterday afternoon, confrontations took place between demonstrators and riot forces in central Baghdad, but the security forces have not yet entered the main protest center in Tahrir Square.
Young men spread around the square, carrying black shields made of metal barrels, and inscribed on it the phrase "Liberation Armor Division".
A cameraman from France Press saw pro-Sadr protesters lift the tents they had set up months ago.
One of the protesters accused Sadr of paving the way for a wider campaign by withdrawing the political cover.
While the security forces did not approach Tahrir Square to regain control, a police source confirmed that there was no intention to do so.
The protesters call for early elections under a new electoral law, an independent prime minister and accountability for corrupt officials and those who have ordered the use of violence against the protesters

1-26-2020 Newshound Guru Breitling We're trying to get the currency down so it's more competitive. And what do we see in the news? The United States just put in 90 Billion more U.S. dollars...what do you think happens when they inject that amount of money into our economy? Do you think the value goes up? NO! The value is divided into that much more of the currency that's out there. How did China devalue its currency when we put tariffs on them? They injected their economy with a ton of Yuan. That's what they did. It's absolutely universal. So you think it's a coincidence that Iraq is pulling currency out of their markets? It's not a coincidence at all...So how did the amount of currency drop so quick? No body knows. They just show the chart. They don't show exactly what they did but you and I know what they need to do and it's not a coincidence that it's all going down... [Post 2 of 2]
1-26-2020 Newshound Guru Breitling ...How can the CBI have such a steep drop in their currency in such a short time? What did they do with it? No body knows. Here's what we don't know. Was it one denomination? Was it all the denominations they pulled back? There's not enough information to answer that question. But here's the point...you need to watch the currency supply. The markets are being flooded with energy, therefore the prices are coming down. And you see the reflection in the banking laws and the way they're treating their currency supply. You've seen the charts. You know there's a disruption. You know what they need to do. They need to reduce their note count. Very very simple. What if they wanted to take away value of the Iraqi dinar? What did they do in the first place? They flooded the market with currency! What is the United States doing right now to our currency?
