Economist: The detention of Iraqi money by America is a "piracy operation"

Sunday 12 January 2020 | 12:40 PM

BAGHDAD / ... The economist Bassem Jamil Antoine confirmed on Sunday that the United States was waving to withhold the money in Iraq at the American Federal Bank as a "piracy operation" for those funds, and this process will greatly harm America's reputation.

Antoine told "Eye of Iraq News" that "Iraq has to resort to diplomatic mobility and understanding with America in this regard, especially since the two sides have many agreements with economic affairs and understandings," noting that "Iraq does not have a problem with the United States of America, but rather they have a problem with Iran Unfortunately, these problems crossed into Iraq, and we have paid the great price in these conflicts, but the diplomatic solution is available to protect Iraqi money, which in turn has American protection without imposing on it impossible conditions. "

And the American newspaper "The Wall Street Journal" published a report on Washington's demand from Baghdad to pay the money in exchange for the withdrawal of the American forces from Iraq.

The newspaper stated that "the United States is still apparently sticking to the survival of its forces in Iraq for a longer period, despite the loud voices calling for its departure following the assassination of the prominent leader of the Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy leader of the popular crowd Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, with a lightning American operation in Baghdad, days ago." ".

After Washington hinted at sanctions that it will impose on Baghdad, if its politicians continue to put forth initiatives aimed at removing American forces from their countries, the American Wall Street Journal stated that "the United States threatened to deprive Iraq of billions of dollars."

The newspaper pointed out, quoting unnamed sources, that "the US State Department threatened Baghdad to freeze a bank account belonging to Iraq in the Federal Reserve (the American Central Bank)."

Iraq uses this account to deposit billions of dollars in oil revenues.

The newspaper stressed that "if this decision occurs, it will prevent Iraq from withdrawing any money from this balance, which could lead to the collapse of the Egyptian-Iraqi regime and the paralysis of the local economy." Finished 2 d

The US administration has warned Iraq of the possibility of losing access to a vital bank account in the event of its expulsion of American forces from the country, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.
Abdul-Mahdi asks Pompeo to send delegates to coordinate the US troop withdrawal
The newspaper quoted Iraqi officials that the US State Department informed the authorities in Baghdad that it might lose access to an account in the New York Federal Reserve, which includes the proceeds of oil sales, which threatens to deal a painful blow to the faltering Iraqi economy.
One of the Iraqi officials pointed out that the warning about the aforementioned account came through a phone call made by the US State Department, last Wednesday, with the acting caretaker head of the Iraqi government, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, as the two sides discussed other files of the military, financial and political partnership between Washington and Baghdad.
And the threat of Iraq being subjected to US sanctions on the horizon after the assassination of the Iranian General, Qassem Soleimani, as a result of a US air raid on Baghdad International Airport, on January 3, the event to which the Iraqi parliament responded by voting, on January 5, in favor of a resolution demanding the Prime Minister to act to remove About 5,300 American soldiers from the country.
In response to this decision, US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose sanctions against Iran in the event that Baghdad insists on withdrawing US forces.
Iraq, like other countries, maintains government accounts in the New York Federal Reserve, as an important part of the country's financial affairs administration, including oil sales revenue. The loss of access to the account could limit Iraq’s use of these revenues, which raises a monetary crisis in the financial system and limits important resources for the economy.
And the United States previously prevented Baghdad from accessing the aforementioned account for several weeks, on the grounds of suspicions that part of its money was used to meet Iran's needs, as well as to finance the "ISIS" organization. The newspaper pointed out that this measure then caused severe damage to the Iraqi financial system.
According to the American newspaper, the potential economic and financial implications of removing American forces from the country are weighing on Iraqi officials who are trying to address the issue without provoking a violent response.
And in recent days, Iraqi officials have highlighted, according to the "Wall Street Journal," the need for friendly relations with Washington, even as pro-Iranian forces exert pressure to drive American forces out of Iraq.

The head of the caretaker government in Iraq, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan region, Masroor Barzani, stressed yesterday the importance of distancing Iraq from external conflicts.
Abdul-Mahdi and Barzani stressed, during talks that dealt with developments in Iraq and the region and the relations between the two sides, the need for the country to have balanced relations with all.
Abdul-Mahdi said, in a meeting with Barzani held in Erbil: «There is a good basis for understanding and to solve problems between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, and there is an opportunity to solve all problems, and that is in the interest of all Iraqis.»
For his part, Barzani stressed the need to resolve all outstanding problems between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government by implementing the agreements concluded between the two sides, saying that "the implementation of this requires a firm and serious decision and will." He pointed out that "ISIS is still a serious threat to Iraq," calling for "increased coordination between the two sides with the assistance of the international coalition."
In Baghdad, hundreds of people gathered yesterday, the bodies of two prominent journalists, who were assassinated Friday evening, by unknown gunmen who targeted their car in Basra Governorate in southern Iraq, while press freedom activists blamed the assassination of "militias."
According to the Iraqi Journalistic Freedoms Observatory, the correspondent of the Tigris News Channel in Basra, Ahmed Abdul Samad (37 years) and his photographer colleague Safaa Ghali (26 years old) were killed by "gunmen operating inside the city" which is located on the border with Iran and is controlled by armed factions loyal to Tehran .
The observatory quoted a visual journalist, who requested anonymity, as saying that the two journalists were "killed near the police headquarters in the center of Basra by the gunmen who were traveling in a four-wheel drive vehicle." The observatory noted that Abdul Samad had sent the organization a video clip documenting "threats received from militias because of his criticism of Iran in his press coverage." In Berlin, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas warned of the possibility of a new escalation in the conflict between the United States and Iran.
"The direct military conflict has been avoided at the present time, but the danger of a new flare-up is not over," Mas said in comments to the newspapers of the German media group "Fonke" yesterday.
Mas said that the tensions between the United States and Iran represent a threat to the region.

Abdul-Mahdi calls to start withdrawing American forces

12/01/2019  Baghdad - agencies:

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi called, in a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to send delegates to Iraq to implement the decision to withdraw American forces from his territory. As the US State Department said yesterday that any delegation that the United States will send to Iraq will not discuss withdrawing American forces, adding that the presence of the forces there is "appropriate." The media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister said in a statement: The telephone also dealt with recent developments in Iraq, where Abdul Mahdi expressed the desire of various parties to prevent escalation and prevent against going to open war in the region, stressing at the same time his country rejects all operations that violate its sovereignty Including the recent operation that targeted "Ein al-Assad" and "Erbil", especially in light of making vigorous efforts to prevent the region from turning into a war zone. The statement also pointed out that these American delegates will watch over the mechanisms for implementing the Iraqi parliament’s decision to securely withdraw American forces from the country, stressing that Iraq is keen to keep the best relations with its neighbors and friends in the international community and to protect foreign representatives and interests and all present on Iraqi soil. The Iraqi Prime Minister highlighted that his country's priorities are limited to combating terrorism, ISIS and violence, rebuilding the country, achieving economic growth, protecting the country's sovereignty and ensuring its independence and national unity, as well as achieving security and stability for Iraq and the region as a whole. Abdul-Mahdi also indicated, according to the same statement, that US forces entered Iraq and drones flying overhead in the sky without permission from the Iraqi government, stressing that these matters are contrary to the agreements in force, and must be stopped. For its part, the State Department said: Any delegation that the United States will send to Iraq will not discuss withdrawing American forces, adding that the presence of the forces there is "appropriate." "However, there is a need for dialogue between the US and Iraqi governments, not only regarding security, but about our financial, economic and diplomatic partnership," said ministry spokeswoman Morgan Ortagos in a statement. US President Donald Trump has said: The United States killed the Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani and those with him, partly because they were looking to bomb the American embassy in Baghdad. Trump added that his country also carried out the strike because of a missile attack on a US military base in Iraq by an armed group backed by Iran last December, which killed an American contractor. He continued: "We dealt with Soleimani quickly so that what happened to the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, does not happen." He pointed out that a contact had been received through which Soleimani was located. He said: "The Iranians bombed our military bases and no one was killed or injured, so I did nothing even though I was ready to respond," stressing that he saved everyone from a great war.d
Yassin Iraq: Baghdad
The journalist Ahmed Al-Bashir denied reports of his arrest at Berlin International Airport, while he considered that these rumors were released to occupy public opinion about the "blood of the martyrs", especially the journalist Ahmed Abdel Samad, who was assassinated on Friday evening.
Al-Bashir said in a tweet followed by "Yassin Iraq": "Continuous rumors come as part of a coordinated campaign of deception until the blood of the martyrs are forgotten and you are distracted by other things, so do not become distracted by false and ridiculous news."
And a number of pages of social networking sites reported on the arrest of Ahmed Al-Bashir at Berlin Airport, following a request from the Iraqi government.

U.S. Says It Won’t Discuss Withdrawing Troops From Iraq, Defying Baghdad’s Request "

WASHINGTON — The State Department on Friday rebuffed the Iraqi government’s request to begin discussions on pulling out troops, saying that any American officials going to Baghdad during a state of heightened tensions would not discuss a “troop withdrawal.” Instead, discussions would be about the “appropriate force posture in the Middle East.”
The statement from Washington was a direct rejoinder to Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi of Iraq, and was certain to add to the friction between the two nations.
The prime minister said earlier on Friday that he had asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to send a delegation from the United States to discuss steps for the withdrawal of the approximately 5,200 American troops from his country, in the aftermath of a deadly American military strike ordered by President Trump that many Iraqis say violated their country’s sovereignty.
“We are happy to continue the conversation with the Iraqis about what the right structure is,” Mr. Pompeo said at a news conference after the State Department had made its announcement. He stressed that the mission of the United States in Iraq was to train Iraqi forces to fight the Islamic State, and “we’re going to continue that mission.”

Urgent: The Al-Amiri meeting ended in Sadr

Baghdad / newsletter:
Informed political sources reported, on Saturday, that the meeting of the head of the Al-Fateh coalition, Hadi al-Amiri, with the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, had ended in the Iranian city of Qom to discuss renewing confidence in Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi.
The sources told "Al-Ikhbaria" that "the head of the Al-Fatah coalition Hadi al-Amiri met with the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr in the Iranian city of Qom to discuss renewing confidence in Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi."
He added, "The meeting has not resolved the issue of renewing confidence for Abdel Mahdi until now."

Why did Adel Abdul-Mahdi fail the Iraqis?

Last update: Saturday 11 January 2020 02:20 - GMT 23:20
Many Iraqis question the reason for the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi in the most serious case requiring the expression of sovereign decisions, which were embodied in the recent Iranian-American clashes on his soil.
Iraqis also question the reason for the silence of their prime minister in moments that require a sovereign decision, as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, when Tehran informed him of launching missile attacks on Iraqi bases in western and northern Iraq.
Is it that the suspicious silence was the result of what was known of him being lethargic and weak, or does this fall in a category that the Iraqis described as "treason"? A poll conducted by Al Hurra channel, via its platforms on social media, showed that 80 percent of voters considered the silence of Abdul-Mahdi and his failure to pre-veto the strike as a "great betrayal".
In addition to his flimsy military position, Abdul-Mahdi did not condemn the Iranian attack, and his foreign minister, after two days, contented himself with public condemnation and the promise to summon the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad. While he was quick to go to the Iraqi parliament after the American strike took place on the third of January, which killed near the Baghdad airport, Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and with him Mahdi Al-Muhandis.
Abdul-Mahdi then gave an emotional speech in which he demanded the end of the American presence in Iraq without the minimum accounts of the Iraqi high interest and in light of a Sunni Kurdish boycott of that session, in a position he described as a response to the desire of the Iranian regime.
Nobody blames Abdel-Mahdi for his sympathetic stance toward Tehran. No one is surprised that his official representative stood in condolence, Faleh al-Fayyad, in front of Khamenei and described him as “the Leader” because it is the reality of their leader and their reference after they changed their Iraqi authority.
But surprisingly, he forgot that Abdul-Mahdi was a constitutional head of government for a country called Iraq. And this site requires him a degree of compliance with the honor of the first responsibility and the expression of sovereignty before aligning with the ideological and state position of the rulers of Tehran
Abdul-Mahdi has not heard the explicit warnings of US officials during the past three months about the risks and repercussions of Iranian interference in Iraq. And US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was forced to come to Baghdad in August last year and inform him of an American warning about the dangers of Iranian militias and their threat to US interests in Iraq and Washington's willingness to protect Iraq’s security.
Because crises always reveal the abilities of politicians and eloquence of their influence, this crisis revealed the shallowness of the political level of Abdul-Mahdi and his loss of future reading that is compatible with the interests of the country. He heard President Donald Trump's warnings with Iranian permission when he suggested that he would "impose severe economic sanctions on Iraq" if his government was to be sided with Iran. Examples of those sanctions include cutting off the flow of cash from the dollar, especially as the Iraqi national income from oil sales as a whole is under the control of the American Federal Reserve, in addition to cutting US banking relations with Iraqi banks and the central bank, and prohibiting dealing with the dollar and raising immunity from Iraqi funds and assets In the United States, in addition to cutting military and intelligence cooperation and lifting air cover for Iraq.
Abdul-Mahdi wanted to restore his personality, which fluctuated in positions and opinions throughout his political history. He who was his party official when he was inside the Baath Party told me that after years of his exit from that organization he met him in Damascus in the eighties and he was surprised to see him wrapping a green scarf on his neck wearing the black “dishdasha” asking him: What is the matter? He answered: I chose the useful path, pointing his hands to Iran.
Recent facts revealed that what Abdul-Mahdi used to spread about himself that he always carried his resignation in his pocket was not real, and it proved that he was attached to his position and tried to maneuver the decision of the popular uprising that forced him to resign by expressing his implementation of the desire of the “Shiite” authority and its loyalty to it and not to the uprising public. .
During the current crisis, he tried to identify with the Iranian position at the expense of Iraq in order to decide that he would remain as prime minister. In his last speech, he appealed to Parliament to support his government, although he announced his resignation with his government staff.
Abdul-Mahdi has expressed hostile positions towards the Iraqi youth uprising, and he is aware of the killings from its early stages. No one was held to account. He also did not stop the series of continuous kidnappings of activists, because he and other armed militias fear the intifada's goals in liberating Iraq from subordination to Iran.
The recent events confirmed the Iraqi national stance of these young people aiming to displace corruption parties and Iranian-backed sectarian armed groups that are trying to persevere in the recent struggle, but they realize that its master, the Iranian regime that linked its fate, has become at its worst despite the noise of empty missiles.

Iraq: Renewed popular demonstrations calling for reform
Baghdad - agencies:
Popular demonstrations took place in a number of Iraqi governorates, especially in the capital, Baghdad, coinciding with the passage of a hundred days since the outbreak of protests last October, in which the participants raised slogans calling for guaranteeing the country's sovereignty and the inviolability of its lands, and preserving the dignity of citizens. For his part, the religious authority, Ali Sistani, condemned in the Friday sermon yesterday, the violation of Iraqi sovereignty, calling for the country to be kept out of the conflict between Washington and Tehran. In the capital Baghdad, the slogans of "Iraq is a master who is ruled by his sons", and "There is no role for strangers in the decisions of Iraq", topped the slogans of the foreign demonstrators and the sit-in protesters in the million demonstration in Tahrir Square, on the occasion of the 100th day of the popular demonstrations calling for reforms in the first of October of Last year, last year. Local Iraqi media reported that the numbers of young demonstrators participating in the millionth demonstration in Tahrir Square increased after Friday prayers, noting that the current conditions in some areas of the country did not prevent large groups of youth from the rest of the provinces coming to the center of the capital, Baghdad. The scene in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate did not differ from the one known in Baghdad's Tahrir Square. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the sit-in square in front of the governorate building in the south of the country, calling for reforms and independence of Iraq away from the axes, choosing an independent prime minister, and holding early legislative elections. In the echo of the same events taking place in the rest of the Iraqi governorates, hundreds of young demonstrators joined the protesting protesters in the Education Square in Karbala Governorate, south of Baghdad, to participate in the million demonstration of the demonstration squares in the capital of the country and the rest of the other provinces on the occasion of the 100th day of the popular demonstrations calling for reforms, echoing Slogans calling for the need to expedite the selection of a new prime minister from outside the parties, and to spare the country from falling into conflict between axes that do not concern Iraq in anything. In the province of Wasit in southern Iraq, after Friday prayers in most of its areas, peaceful demonstrations were launched to demand the implementation of the legitimate demands advocated by the Iraqis, and to implement the reforms of the laws in force and idle in the corridors of Parliament to ensure a free and dignified life for the Iraqi citizen. Also, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in the Basra governorate, in the south, to demand the same slogans and demands raised by Iraqis in various regions of the country for more than three months, but the police forces dispersed the demonstrators and prevented them from gathering near Umm Al-Brum Square in the city center, as well as She chased them close to the spot. In a related development, Ahmed Al-Safi, the accredited supreme authority in Iraq led by Ali Al-Sistani, described the Iranian-American conflict in Iraq as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty and a serious attack. Al-Safi said during his Friday prayer sermon in front of thousands of worshipers in Karbala that "what happened in the last days are serious attacks and repeated attacks on Iraqi sovereignty, with weakness from the authorities in facing these violations, and the people are satisfied with their adversity for decades." "In times of adversity and adversity, there is an urgent need for cooperation and solidarity, and this can only be achieved with the willingness of all parties to give up even a part of their self-interest and the preponderance of public interests over them," he added. He continued, “Dealing in a style of overcoming by the different parties, each of which possesses an aspect of power, influence and potential, and trying each of them to impose their vision on the rest will lead to the persistence of the crisis and its difficulty in solving the solution, and therefore perhaps everyone will come out of it as losers. He pointed out that what took place in the last days of serious attacks and repeated violations of Iraqi sovereignty with apparent weakness of the authorities concerned in protecting the country and its people from these attacks and violations are part of the repercussions of the current crisis, and everyone is required to think carefully about what can lead to the situation if it does not happen Putting an end to it because of insisting on some positions and refusing to budge from it. This is expected to exacerbate problems in its various aspects of security, political, economi

I don't know for sure, but I have a strong feeling there is no coincidence's about these to events taking place now.  Even the CBI has told us they reduced the note count, they even show in their spread sheets on the Arabic side (per Delta) that they have paid for the recent new printing of money to the tune of approximately $190 million +- over the last year or so. There were and are videos...that showed the process of what they are doing with the large notes. They were and may still be destroying them...In the video they were not showing worn and torn notes. They were showing good quality 25k notes and in very large quantities. The CBI website shows in the Charts the reduction. Charts on that site are for international use and they are extremely accurate for many reasons too

1-11-2020  Intel Guru Frank26   ...all the education is being given to the banks so they can be in accordance with the new exchange rate.  It's exciting, all these little telltale signs because to me this can point to only one thing, an RI is happening.  There is no denial about it.  And I am very grateful for it.

1-11-2020   Newshound Guru Jeff     ...they keep telling you a lot of post rate change items are inside the 2020 budget which links the 2020 budget to the rate change.  Now I want to stress to you budgets do not contain rates...they're linked to the rate.  The difference is if the 2020 budget was calculated at the old value it's calculated in trillions of dinar.  If the 2020 budget was calculated at the rate change it would be calculated in billions of dinar hence the deletion of the zeros transitioning from trillions to billions...

1-11-2020   Intel Guru  Delta
...there is something I'd like to clear up here.  It's not the one or two days that they [ the CBI] is out of compliance [With the IMF 2% rule] that's a big deal and they have to start from scratch.  They [the IMF] go by monthly average.  So the monthly average has to be no more than 1213 [Market rate].  That's about the 2% compliance with 1190 [Official Rate]... [Note: You can always see the CBI's official and market rate for the dinar in the left column of this page]

1-11-2020   Intel Guru Frank26    ...[Guru] Walkingstick's banks are obeying the CBI and they're going to turn in all the 3 zeros [notes] they've got and they are going to get back the equivalent but not in new small category notes because they've already been delivered...

1-11-2020   Newshound Guru chattels  While I remain hopeful that some day there will be an increase in the value of the dinar, I am not optimistic in the near term. My usual optimism in the first quarter is suppressed by the same old issues and now the threat of war and / or economic sanctions.

1-11-2020 Newshound Guru MilitiaMan Yesterday, the CBI Governor, ITB, Finance Minister, etc., told us they were going to protect the currency internally and externally. That is meaning to me, they have the mechanisms in place to do so. One mechanism would be to stop the MCPs and raising the rate of the IQD. The supply and demand will equalize over time, it may only take a couple weeks once they do? Regardless, that sort of support is a requirement by the IMF for completion and ascension into a market economy, imo. Iraq has been given orders to complete the MR process and they clearly are making that very apparent...that is exactly what they are doing!!! imo.
