BasNews 29/03/2019 - 00:27 Published in Iraq

US has reaffirmed its prolonged commitment to coordinate with Iraq to ensure the Islamic State (IS) is fully defeated, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Thursday.
The US senior official made the remarks during a meeting with the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi in Washington where they had talks on bilateral relations between the sides, according to reports.
Pompeo "reiterated that the United States’ support for a strong, sovereign, and prosperous Iraq, as outlined in our bilateral Strategic Framework Agreement, as well as ongoing U.S. efforts to assist in meeting Iraq’s critical development needs," State Department spokesman Robert Palladino said in a statement, as cited by Turkish media Anadolu Agency.
Earlier in February, US President Donald Trump said that he would keep his country's forces in Iraq to watch over Iran, after which, ties between Baghdad and Washington began to strain to some extent.
The US forces in Iraq have played a significant role in training the Iraqi forces, including the Peshmerga fighters, during and after the war against the Islamic State.
However, certain Shi'ite factions, who are known to be close to Iran, have intensified their efforts to oust the US and other foreign troops from Iraq.

Method of keeping fruits fresh for two weeks without cold

The food waste is one of the biggest challenges of our time, especially with regard to fruit, and according to some estimates, people are wasting one-third of what is grown from fruit.

One Malaysian company claims to have found a simple and effective solution to the problem, a small sticker that would prolong the fruit to stay fresh for two weeks, according to Notizie delmondo.

A Malaysian firm known as Stixfresh has succeeded in creating a small adhesive that contains a special combination of natural substances that will slow the maturation process, keeping fruit fresh for longer.

Stixfresh is made of 100% organic material containing a mixture of ionized sodium chloride and honeywax, which helps to slow the bacterial activity in the fruit and thus delay its maturation process and then decompose it. The company stresses that the adhesives are so safe that they may be edible.

Zafri Zinodin, the company's founder, claims that the idea of the glue came to his mind four years ago after a friend of his ran a fruit shop. The man complained about losing money every day because of the rotten fruit.

Xenodin's cooperation with Selangor State University, Malaysia's Putra University and research institutes such as the Industrial Research Institute, took three years to complete the production process.

Initially the adhesive was designed to extend the life span of mango only, but later the company realized that it also proved effective on other fruits of the same size, such as avocados, papaya, apples and pears.

Stixfresh is not yet available in all markets, and the manufacturer is launching a fundraising campaign to raise funds for the manufacture of the product.
