Soleimani Told Iraqi Militias To 'Prepare For Proxy War'
The commander of Iran’s extraterritorial military operations recently met with different Iraqi Shiite militias, telling them to “prepare for proxy war”, according to a report by The Guardian.
Qassem Soleimani, Quds Force met with all leaders of militias controlled by Iran three weeks ago, two senior unnamed intelligence officials are quoted as saying, and this heightened concern among U.S. officials that American targets in the region could be under a serious threat.
Previously, U.S. officials had referred to “intelligence” indicating there were threats against their interests and that was cited as a reason for dispatching more forces to the Arabian Gulf. Soleimani’s meeting with Militias is now an additional piece of information leaked to the media.
The intelligence about Soleimani's meeting led to a series of diplomatic activities, including U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s sudden visit to Iraq last week to discuss the safety of U.S. personnel in the country, including a sizeable military contingent.
The U.S. has become very intolerant of Iran’s extraterritorial and often clandestine activities; financing and arming militant groups across the Middle East, North Africa and beyond.

US Forces Begin Expansion of Air Base in Iraq
The US forces in Iraq have reportedly begun to expand one of its air bases in the western province of Anbar, sources said on Thursday.
The sources pointed out that the US forces stationed at the Al Asad Air Base in western Anbar, for the first time began the expansion of the airport for military and defense, without stating the reasons behind these actions.
Adding that the expansion included large areas of the airport towards the south of the base, in an indication that these forces will remain for a long time inside the building, which is under strict security.
The expansion comes while the US Department of State ordered on Wednesday the withdrawal of its non-essential employees from its embassy in Baghdad and consulate general in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, as tensions have already risen due to the deteriorated ties between Washington and Tehran.
Baghdad is preparing oil for the prospects of American-Iranian confrontation
Has announced its commitment to a cut production agreement ... Britain warns its employees in Iraq
Friday - 17 May 2019
Iraqi Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban
Baghdad: Hamza Mustafa
Iraqi Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban announced that his ministry has taken precautionary measures in the event of any emergency on the events in the region. "We have taken precautionary measures in the event of an emergency on America and Iran," Ghadhban said in a press statement on Thursday.
The Iraqi minister said: "We have a plan to extend a new pipeline from Kirkuk to Turkey is equivalent to the old pipe," noting that «Turkey has shown a desire to increase the importer of crude oil».
At the same time, Baghdad has declared its commitment to the OPEC production cut agreement. In a statement to «Middle East», the spokesman for the Ministry of Oil, Assem Jihad, in response to a question on information on Iran's request to Iraq to reduce oil production and not to increase, given the zeroing of Iran's oil exports, «Iraq is committed to the agreement to reduce production approved by (OPEC) and its allied countries from outside the organization », adding that« Iraq does not take an individual decision to reduce or increase production because it respects the collective decision, and committed to it in the interest of all ».
Jihad pointed out that «any increase in production or reduction is taken at the ministerial meeting, according to technical data calculated for the conditions of the market», noting that «the decision to reduce, which was taken in December 2018, and for a period of 6 months, Organization, and that the resolutions of the Organization were adopted unanimously. "
"There is a meeting of the ministerial committee to monitor production will be held on May 19, in order to review the situation of the market, listen to the reports of the specialized committees, and then report to the ministerial meeting to be held in Vienna during the month of June."
This comes at a time when the Iraqi government continues its commitment to neutrality in the escalating crisis between Washington and Tehran, except for the issuance of positions of some armed forces and factions. While a senior leader in the popular crowd denied receiving any threats from the Americans, the Dawa Party, led by former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, has refused to stand on the sidelines. "Any military action against Iran is an attack on Iraq," a statement issued by the Dawa Party, in response to a request from the embassy's staff in Baghdad and its consulate in Arbil to leave Iraq as soon as possible, warned that "he would not stand neutral" About what he described as "American tyrant Donald Trump," pointing out that «Iraq and its political and popular forces will not distance themselves from engaging in confrontation between America and Iran». The Dawa Party also called on the United States to "withdraw its forces from the Gulf and the Middle East because it has become harmful to the whole region."
The warnings coincide with the start of the US company «ExxonMobil» in Basra to evacuate its employees with the arrival of official US warnings to leave Iraq as a result of fears of escalation. "Any information about the threat posed by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has not reached us," said Mu'in al-Kazemi, leader of the popular rally. "Americans have real concerns about targeting their forces and interests in Iraq, especially that their targets and rules The military has become exposed and easy to target ».
Britain has joined the countries that have begun raising the level of warning to its staff working in Iraq. British media have quoted British officials as saying that the United Kingdom has placed its staff in a number of countries in the region in the event of severe warning in anticipation of any emergency.
US officials have justified the US State Department's action to withdraw US staff from Iraq because of what they call direct threats from pro-Iranian Iraqi groups. The officials said the threats came from groups such as Asaib Ahl al-Haq, Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.
The Washington-based group, Asaib Ahl al-Haq and the Iraqi Al-Mustaqbal Movement, said Washington's talk of threats to its interests in Iraq was only "excuses" after the United States announced the withdrawal of its non-essential staff from Iraq. "Washington is trying to make a fuss in Iraq and the region under any pretext," said Naser al-Shammari, a military aide to the Nujaba, a group close to Iran. The director of the Political Bureau of "Asaib Ahl al-Haq" Laith al-Athari told the «French press», that the recent US statements and actions «just provocations, intended to escalate the psychological war».

Coalition to Resume Training Peshmerga Next Week: Ministry
The US-led International Coalition will resume its military training to the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces next week, said the Ministry of Peshmerga on Thursday in a statement.
Following a security alert by the US Department of State on Wednesday to withdraw its non-essential employees working at its embassy in Baghdad and consulate general in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, Germany and Netherlands announced the suspension of their military training in Iraq and the region as well.
Washington argued that its citizens could be targeted by the pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi militias in Iraq as ties between the US and Iran have drastically deteriorated in the region.
The Peshmerga fighters backed by the coalition forces played a key role in the defeat of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq in the past few years.
The secretive Kaka'i of Iraq are finally speaking out
17/05/2019
The Kaka'i are a secretive religious minority in Iraq who usually avoid the cameras.
Their persecution has forced them to keep their beliefs and rituals a secret; once numbering in their millions in Iraq, there are now just 200,000.
They have been persecuted by extremists in the region who consider them to be infidels, such as ISIS and al-Qaeda.
The Kaka'i have also faced discrimination from the Shia Muslim-led paramilitary Popular Mobilization force since the central government retook control of Kirkuk province from Kurdish forces in 2017.
They are finally revealing their lives to the international community in an attempt to thwart the risk of genocide.
You can hear more about their persecution by listening to the World Service's Heart and Soul program here .
