Abadi, Maliki to run in local elections on one list: source

Iraq's Islamic Dawa (Call) Party member on Sunday said that the party's secretary-general Nouri al-Maliki, the country's former prime minister accused of corruption, and former PM Haidar al-Abadi will run for the upcoming local elections on one list.

Dawa Party decided that Maliki and Abadi will run for the upcoming local elections on one list, "but the two sides have postponed the issue and do not want to announce it to the public now," said a leader in the party, who spoke in condition of anonymity.

Maliki and Abadi welcomed this decision, the source said, expecting that such decision will be announced soon.

This comes although Nasr (Victory) Alliance, led by Abadi, has denied Saturday the intention to merge with the State of Law Coalition led by Maliki to run for the upcoming elections.
 

Former regime 'massacred' defenseless Iraqis of all components: Salih

Iraq's President Barham Salih condemned on Monday the crimes of the former regime, which "massacred the defenseless civilians, and killed thousands," adding that it had oppressed Kurds, Arabs, Turkmen, Muslims, and Christians.

This came as he met with tribal elders and other social and cultural elite in Iraq's Al-Muthanna, marking 30 years since the the former regime "threw thousands of unarmed Kurds of elders, children and women in the desert of Samawah," Salih said.

He added that although 30 years have passed, mass graves are being discovered until now, "not only for Kurds, but for all [components] of Iraqis."

 Iraqi Security Advisor Falih Fayyadh visited Damascus on Sunday where he met with Syrian regime president Bashar al-Assad to discuss joint efforts in combatting terrorism and closer cooperation to encounter the ongoing challenges.
Assad stressed that both Baghdad and Damascus had to remain independent in making decision and survive the current crisis.
"Events at the regional and international levels require that Syria and Iraq move forward in protecting their sovereignty and independence of their decisions in view of the plans weaved by external enemies on a divide and wreaking havoc” Sputnik quoted Assad.
He noted that, regardless of the challenges and their complexities, it is ultimately at the hands of the people of Iraq and Syria to decide on the fate of their countries.

Iraq Exhumes Three Mass Graves of Kurdish Victims of “Anfal”

Authorities in Iraq’s southern province of Musanna announced on Sunday that they have begun unearthing three mass graves which contain remnants of several dozens of Kurdish victims killed by the Baath regime.
Holding a skull and an earring recovered from the mass grave, Musanna Governor Ahmed Manfi told reporters that the exhumation and documentation of the graves came after former president of Kurdistan Region Masoud Barzani called on the local administration to take the step.
“These are the mass graves of the victims of Anfal [campaign] which are being exhumed at the request of president Masoud Barzani… We hope that authorities will find the other mass graves in Badiya deserts as well,” Manfi said.
Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) from Kurdistan Region has also joined the local teams to unearth the mass graves.
Head of the BCF team thanked Governor and his administration for helping the discovery of the mass graves after more than three decades.
Previously, local officials in Musanna province said the mass graves were expected to contain at least 300 bodies.

Baghdad Delegation to Visit Erbil, Discuss Disputed Areas

A delegation from Baghdad is set to visit Erbil on Monday to discuss the current situation and future plans in Kirkuk and other areas disputed between Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi government.
Peshmerga official Qaraman Kamal confirmed the report in an interview with Baghdad Today and said the delegation will be visiting the ministry of Peshmerga in Erbil.
They will also review the findings by five joint committees on the security challenges in Kirkuk, Kamal added.
He noted that there are efforts to reactivate joint operation rooms between Erbil and Baghdad to help securing the disputed areas.

Arabia next Wednesday to sign a number of joint agreements.

The sources added that a senior delegation will accompany Mehdi, comprising of 10 ministers and a number of  economic, legal and security experts.

This visit is a continuation to the deliberations of the Joint Council that held meetings in Baghdad to discuss matters related to electricity supply, trade exchange and industrial and agricultural investments.

The media department of the Council, in a statement received / Mawazin News /, that "Monday's session will witness" the vote on the draft law amending the law of the recovery of Iraq's money No. (9) for 2012, and vote on the draft law amending the Companies Law No. (21) 
He added that "the parliament will make the first reading of the draft law of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and the first reading of the draft law of the first amendment to the Law of the Ministry of Interior No. (20) for the year 2016." 
"There will be a first reading of the draft law on the accession of the Republic of Iraq to the Convention on the minimum standards of social security No. 102 of 1952, and discuss the draft traffic law."

Washington offers $ 100 million extra to stabilize Iraq

The US government is working with Congress to provide an additional $ 100 million to help stabilize the liberated areas of a terrorist organization, US Charge d'affaires in Baghdad Joe Hood said Sunday.

The stabilization program will be beneficial. Of this new funding by restoring basic services such as water, electricity, sanitation, health, housing and education. 
He also pointed out that during his speech, he called on officials in Anbar province, Shuwaikh tribes and the people of the region to protect project sites and to do their part to return all displaced Iraqis who want to return to their homes and help them to integrate into their communities.

Al-Haddad: Baghdad is waiting for a delegation of Peshmerga to pay their salaries
