Senate delegation affirms US support to Iraq in various realms

Thursday، 25 April 2019 01:06 AM
A delegation from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee including Senator Mitt Romney of the Republican Party expressed the US hopes that Iraq becomes a strong and prosperous partner after its people and armed forces could beat ISIS.

They affirmed their country's support to Iraq in various fields. This came during the delegation's meeting with Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi on Wednesday. US Charge d'Affaires in Baghdad Joey Hood also attended the meeting.

Halbousi and the US delegation discussed providing services through investment opportunities giving access to the US companies to work in Iraq, a statement by Halbousi's office said.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the continuation of security cooperation between Baghdad and Washington; to eliminate ISIS cells, provide assistance to return displaced people to the areas liberated from the terrorist group, achieve stability and implement the reconstruction strategy of Iraqi cities.

Why Abadi renews counter-corruption alleged efforts

Thursday، 25 April 2019 12:20 AM

Many Iraqi officials, especially the high-level ones, only show good intentions toward citizens just before and during elections, and then turn to give up working to serve Iraqis shortly after he wins.

This is the case with all prime ministers who took post in Iraq after the US invasion in 2003, starting with Ayad Allawi and ending with Haidar al-Abadi, including Ibrahim al-Jaafari and Nouri al-Maliki.

Abadi, who, when he took office, vowed to make reform, and fight and eliminating corruption, but his achievements were unsatisfying. Instead, corruption has become more rampant.

Some think that Abadi has exploited the victory over ISIS, to deviate people from reviewing the poor counter-corruption progress.

After spending four years in power, Abadi left post and failed to return to it. He now returns to claim an anti-corruption campaign.

Lebanese Al-Akhbar said earlier in April that Nasr Alliance is leading a movement to open the case against the State of Law’s Coalition related to the waste of public money during his rule.

Merge plan emerges

However, time has proven the opposite. A parliament member of the Nasr Alliance later in April said that the party is holding dialogues with the State of Law with the aim of allying with it.

There is a rapprochement between the two parties, which enables them to merge, MP Nada Shaker said.

A leading figure in the Dawa Party, Abdul Halim al-Zuhairi, confirmed that the State of Law Coalition and the Nasr Alliance may announce that they will merge at any moment.

Attempts to return Abadi

The idea of overthrowing Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi, who was appointed in October last year, first emerged when Sami al-Askari, a member of the State of Law Coalition headed by Nouri al-Maliki, spoke about the matter openly.

He said in a televised speech that there are attempts to bring back former Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, adding that some of his allies promised to bring Abadi back to his post after a year, hopefully until 2022.

Askari tried to distance the State of Law Coalition from the matter by ruling out the possibility that the Coalition could merge with Abadi’s Nasr Alliance.

Iran, Iraq support each other under any circumstances

Moscow, April 25, IRNA
The Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that the governments of Iran and Iraq were in every situation supportive of each other and in the event of crises, provide necessary helps.Brigadier General Amir Hatami, who is on Moscow to participate in Security Conference in Russia, made remarks during a meeting with Secretary-General of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense Mohammad Javad Kazem.

He depicted sympathy and the valuable contributions of the people, the government and Hashd al-Sha'bi’s forces in the recent flood of Iraq which satisfied the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In another part of his remarks, MoD said, 'We will not allow new insecurity to be imposed again by foreigners and aggressors in the region”, accessing as positive the readiness of all nations and governments of the region.

The Iranian Minister of Defense conveyed that the transfer of the embassy of the occupying regime of Quds to Beit-ul-Moqqdas and the annexation of the Golan Heights to the Zionist regime as an introduction to the instability and insecurity in the region and expressed hope for the establishment of stability, security and peace on Iraqi soil, noting Iran, as in the past, is trying to ensure this security and peace, to be lasting and permanent, and the people of the region, especially the Iraqi friends and brothers, rebuild their country in the face of full security and the elimination of any aggression and foreign intervention.

The Secretary General of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense Maj. Gen. Javad Kazem, also commended the Islamic Republic of Iran for confronting the aggression of terrorists to Iraq, saying, “Thanks God that two peoples, with their struggle, were able to stand against the terrific outburst of terrorists. And mercenaries and masters fail to achieve their evil goals.'

He expressed hope that in the future we will see the development and further progress of the two countries' interactions in different dimensions.

The Iraqi official said that all Iraqi political parties and political groups emphasize the role of Iran in the stability and security of the region and Iraq and are underlining the expansion and deepening of the two countries' relations in all respects.

The eighth Moscow Security Conference will be held from April 24 to 25, focusing on Middle East issues and the stabilization of the situation in Syria in Moscow.

Issues related to peacekeeping, expansion of military cooperation, regional security in Asia, Africa and Latin America are also among other issues that are being addressed at the Moscow Security Summit.

No Foreign Forces Allowed to Stay in Iraq: Hadi al-Amiri

BasNews 25/04/2019 - 00:16 Published in Iraq

No foreign forces are allowed to stay in Iraq, Head of Fatih Coalition Hadi al-Amiri said on Wednesday during a special ceremony held to remember the fallen militiamen of the pro-Iranian Hashd al-Shaabi during the war against the Islamic State (IS).
Amiri argued that the law for ousting the foreign forces out of Iraq has been issued by the parliament in 2011, and that "there is no need to repeat that again," as cited by Kurdistan 24.
He further thanked Iran for "its sacrifices and support" to Iraq, especially during the fight against IS.
"Iran, since the beginning of the war [against the IS], opened the door of its weapons depots for Iraq and supported us by all means, while all sides were trying to escape from Iraq and thought that Iraq would fall," Amiri added.
"The other countries didn't wake up until Daesh got close to [Kurdistan Region's capital] Erbil and then they decided to form the anti-IS coalition."

Iraqi MP: Trump choices to bring dangerous outcome

Baghdad, April 25, IRNA

A member of Iraqi Parliament foreign relations commission stressed the fact that US President Donald Trump’s decisions, especially those made against Iran, will have dangerous consequences

Speaking to reporters, Masna Amin said If the US insists on its decision to end waiver on Iran oil exports and also on pressuring Iran and Iraq, a bad crisis will happen in Iraq and in the region as well.

He added that the Iraqi foreign ministry will spare no efforts to receive exemption of sanctions since Iraq cannot set aside relations with Iran completely.

Iran and Iraq have intertwined and complicated relations, Amin reiterated.

In addition to trade volume which is over $10b, Iraq is importing some essential items like electricity from Iran, he said adding that Iraq has no way to provide these items at the moment.

On May 8, 2018, Trump withdrew from the JCPOA, which was condemned by other parties to the 2015 agreement.

Despite the fact that Washington had claimed to zero Iran oil exports, the US agreed to let eight countries, including China, Japan, India and South Korea, Taiwan, Italy and Greece keep buying Iranian oil after it reimposed sanctions on the OPEC producer on Nov. 5.

The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo once again in a unilateral and hostile act on Monday declared anti-Iran measure to lift sanctions waivers on buyers of Iran oil.

According to Western media, Pompeo claimed that the US had gained assurances from oil producers - namely Saudi Arabia and the UAE - to ensure a sufficient supply to minimize impact on pricing.

He added that sanctions waiver permission will be expired on May 1 and as a result this decision will be implemented on May 2 meaning that no permission will exist to extend these waivers.

This is while earlier, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) underlined the fact that Iran has complied with its commitments under the JCPOA.

Emphasizing the fact that the agency will continue to verify the non-diversion of nuclear material declared by Iran under its NPT Safeguards Agreement, the IAEA chief said, 'The implementation in Iran of the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, Additional Protocol, and additional transparency measures under the JCPOA amounts to the most robust verification system in existence any here in the world.'

Earlier, Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh referred to the US aggressive economic war against Iran oil industry, saying the US dream of zeroing Iran oil export will not come true.

Describing the oil market as unpredictable, he said it will not be possible to predict that oil is produced to the required level, since some regional countries have announced the production volume more than what is in reality.

The US and its regional allies take advantage of oil as political tool, but they should wait for its negative consequences, he noted.
