Sako : If the emigration of Iraqi Christians continues, our fate will be like the Jews
Thursday, April 4, 2019
Alsumaria News / Baghdad The Church of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the world Cardinal Mar Luis Sacco said Wednesday that if the emigration continues, the fate of the Christians will be like the fate of the Jews, again calling on Iraqi Christians to change their vision and behavior instead of conflicts for narrow interests.
"I renew my call to Iraqi Christians to change their vision and behavior instead of useless criticisms and conflicts for narrow interests," Sako said in a statement on the crisis of Iraq's Christians and his follow-up to Alsumaria News. "There is pressure on Nineveh towns from In order to change its demography, and the negative impact on those who returned to it, and everyone knows that most of the Christian parties infiltrated, and their political agendas do not take into account the Christian presence, and witness the recent elections.
"We hope that we will be able to face the challenges that threaten our historical existence," he said, adding that "we all bear the ultimate responsibility."
He added that "the emigration of the Christian body for real reasons, and took their numbers dwindling frighteningly, and if continued migration and fragmentation and fog of vision in this way, our fate will be like the fate of the Jews in 1948," pointing out that "I respect the personal decision in migration and the person is responsible for his decision , But I am not the person who asks anyone to facilitate this, because I believe that migration is sowing the Christian body, because of dispersion here and there and loss in new cultures and societies and alien to our heritage and culture. "
He reiterated his call for Iraqi Christians to "change their vision and behavior instead of useless criticisms and conflicts for narrow interests. Mosul has exhausted its Christians. There are pressures on the towns of the Nineveh Plain to change its demographics and the negative impact on those who returned to it."
"Everyone knows that most of the Christian parties are infiltrated, and their political agendas do not take into account the Christian presence. The recent elections testify to this," he said. "We must unite and form a reference to the level of tragedy.
Sacco stressed the need to "reject the state of pessimism and despair, and move quickly to reunite, to save what can be saved, because the common denominators are numerous and the fate is one; there is a common Christian culture that can not accept division; away from the naming and conflict of interests," calling for " Of both sexes of sincere people with clear intellectual and practical capabilities, reading and visualization of reality, and work to establish a monitoring office (Observatory of the Christians of Iraq) to follow violations against them, very seriously, especially the personal status law.
Christians accounted for 3.1 percent of the population in Iraq, according to a census conducted in 1947, which numbered between 1 million and 2 million in the 1980s.
