Baghdad Post Thursday, 09 August 2018 02:51 pm
The government has been unable to meet the growing demands for basic public services and job creation, after years of financial and administrative corruption and increased financial burden due to low oil prices and military operations in a number of provinces.
"The water problems accompanied by the chronic electricity crisis in Basra contributed to the outbreak of violent demonstrations in the city last month and other southern provinces, where protesters attacked government offices and parties and burned, which called for security men to open fire on them."
"The dams on the riverbeds in Syria and Iran have shrunk the water levels and streams of the rivers, with low monsoon rains and deteriorating infrastructure conditions for water projects to irreparable levels," the source said.
The source pointed out that "the result was a severe shortage of fresh water, which allowed the extension of salt water coming from the Arabian Gulf and reached the Shatt al-Arab where the junction of the Tigris and Euphrates, which depends on the people of Basra, which was once watering large agricultural land."
The source added that "the water crisis affected the whole country, but Basra was the hardest hit by this crisis, increasing salinity has led to the closure of desalination systems and turned areas of fertile land to the land of Burr and the death of a large number of fish and livestock."
The source pointed out that "the area of Saybah was formerly inhabited by more than 65.000 people and the land of agricultural estimated area of †<†<about 50 hectares, but most of its population migrated during the Iran-Iraq war, where the burning of orchards and planted land mines, and almost the scene of migration is now repeated because of this crisis.
More than 18,000 people returned to the Saybah area after the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, including the farmer Ali and his brothers, where they hoped to start investing and revive their agricultural land again after a long period of neglect.
"In recent years, Iraq has been forced to stop the cultivation of vital crops such as rice and wheat because of the scarcity of water in the south," the source said.
The FAO pointed out that Dahesh had seized most of the territory of northern and western Iraq during 2014 and then came a devastating war to expel the militants from the country, which contributed to the loss of Iraq during the past four years about 40% of the country's agricultural energy.
"Salinity killed fish and cattle and caused dozens of bird species to disappear from the area. It is an environmental crime. I think if the situation continues over the next two months, agriculture may disappear completely," said Alaa Badran, head of the Agricultural Engineers Syndicate.

Washington rejected Iraqi request on Iranian sanctions
Thursday, August 9, 2018
6:29 AM  admin

London/ Iraq TradeLink: The London-based al-Arab daily reported that the Iraqi
government requested the United States to be exempted from Iranian sanctions, which started two days ago.

The sources said that Iraq, in his request, called the US administration to “understand” the Iraqi critical situations, particularly the public demands that may topple the government for lack of services and electricity.

The paper pointed that the US authorities rejected the Iraqi request and insisted, through its contacts with allies, that they all should abide by the sanctions to have quick results.

According to the paper, Iraq demanded facilities to get its needs of electricity  and fuel from Iran on a temporary basis, but no reply was received till now.

It quoted Iraqi politicians that the Iraqi needs for electricity and fuel is not similar to Iranian needs for the US dollars.

UN Expects Iraqi Future Government to be Free from Sectarianism

The remarks were made during a UN Security Council meeting held for talks on Iraqi political process, including the formation of a new cabinet in Baghdad where Kubiš pointed out that due to high number of complains against the process, they issued a decree to manually recount part of the votes.
He noted that the low number of Iraqis which participated in the election could be a message from the public to the government for their disagreement on the public services.
The UN official said that the Iraqis delivered a message to say that they were ignored by most of the country's leaders.
"I call on the political leaders to listen to the Iraqi people and rush to form a new national government free from sectarianism which can gather all," he said.

UNHCR welcomes New Donation from Finland
Iraq, August 9, 2018
UNHCR welcomes the generous donation of 1.5 million euros from the Government of Finland. The new funds will help UNHCR support vulnerable Iraqis and Syrian refugees in a rapidly changing context.
A year on from the end of fighting in Mosul, the situation in Iraq is increasingly complex.
While the country recovers from conflict, the needs of Iraqis diversify. Almost 3.9 million people displaced by the recent conflict returned to their homes and are restarting their lives. Children are back at school, water and electricity networks are functioning, and devastated communities are seeing the shoots of regrowth. In places hard-hit by the conflict, the conditions for sustainable return are not yet met. Assistance for the 2 million internally displaced Iraqis and the communities that host them must continue for some time to come to discourage people from returning home too soon.
In addition, around 700 people cross the border every month to escape the fighting in Syria that shows no sign of abating.
To meet diversifying needs, UNHCR provides support over a broadening spectrum. From comprehensive humanitarian assistance in camps to community-based projects to promote social cohesion in slowly reforming communities; from psychological assistance for survivors of gender-based violence to support in acquiring the new or replacement identification documents people need to access state social welfare benefits.
“Iraq is an important partner to Finland and the EU,” said Ms. Päivi Laine (pictured), the Finnish Ambassador to Iraq. “We want to support the Iraqis to return home after years of conflict and continue their lives in home communities. It is remarkable that despite its own complicated situation Iraq is generous towards refugees from Syria. UNHCR has been for years a reliable partner and Finland is very satisfied to continue the co-operation in Iraq. The latest donation is 1.5 million euros.”
“The changing context in Iraq requires us to be ever-more nimble in our response,” said Mr. Bruno Geddo, UNHCR’s Representative in Iraq. “Even as cities are rebuilt and communities begin to flourish, hundreds of thousands of people struggle to make ends meet. Flexibility and creativity are at the heart of UNHCR’s work in Iraq, to consistently meet people’s changing needs. Unearmarked funding from donors like the Government of Finland enables us to be responsive and compassionate to the changing situation Iraqis face. With their ongoing support, we will stand with the people of Iraq until the job is done.”

Iraq: A "mass" is issued for elections that do not have to be formed by the government

Thursday, 2018/8/9
Source: News - Baghdad - Anatolia

A spokesman for the Supreme Federal Court of Iraq, Iyas Samuk, said that there is no change in the interpretation of the court of the largest parliamentary bloc, which is entitled to form a government, unless an amendment to the Constitution.
Samok said that «the Court stated in its interpretation of the text of Article 76 of the Constitution in 2010, which is the mandate of forming the government, that the largest parliamentary bloc is the largest constituency of the number of deputies in the first session of the House of Representatives, not the bloc that topped the election results.
He stressed that there is no change in the interpretation of this bloc, and «if there is to be another trend in the selection of candidate for prime minister, must be an amendment to the Constitution».

We had new developments with the bank list.  Some have changed their position and now have the currency available when they said they did not and would not.  The one saying "No" is now saying "Yes"...

Third, so this brings us to the question then how do all these online internet brokers get the dinarThey have special arrangements through the US Treasury and the CBI to purchase large volumes of the dinar. They are allowing this under presidential executive order 13303. ...So we are not profiteering off the disaster of the war but official investors in Iraq. This is what allows us to have this currency in our hands...The banks now too have come online and are also selling the dinar once again...We are NOT just waiting for the rate to go up but instead waiting for the dinar to get reinstated on the global trading platforms as a legitimate tradable currency once again. When this happens they will adjust the rate based on the new peg to the new SDR basket. Yes, it could initially be assigned a new rate of $3.00+ and float higher quickly. Here is the important part – IN DEMAND!   [post 3 of 3]

8-8-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat   ...This closed economy means they take the revenue from the oil in US dollars. Then the merchants take their dinar go to the currency auctions and exchange dinar for these US dollars. They then can trade with the outside world using the US dollars only. This was part of the Chapter VII conditions. Mainly they put this provision in because they downgraded the dinar so much and shut it off on the global exchanges it was almost worthless to the outside world. ...So yes the dinar was not supposed to leave the country of Iraq. The CBI currency auctions sell US dollars not dinar.  [post 2 of 3....stay tuned]

8-8-2018   Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat    [...A few years ago you stated that the currency most of us have in the USA had come across Iraq's border semi-illegal? I don't remember the exact term you used. What are the chances that Iraq rejects our currency because we were never suppose to have it...]  First I never said that the currency of Iraq that you hold has come across the boarder semi-illegally.  Second, I did say that the 3 zero notes were meant to stay within Iraq and for the exclusive use of the “closed” economy of Iraq while in financial sanctions under Chapter VII.  [post 1 of 3....stay tuned]

8-8-2018   Intel Guru Bruce   ...8/8/2018.   Is that an important number to the Chinese?   Is it an important number to Iraq? Yes and Yes.  Could it be an important date for us?  Yes. It should be an important date for us.  ...Everything is done and everything is rolling out.  ...We are at a time things are being accomplished around the globe. Things are happening...such as the ISX did open on Sunday, and we have proof of that from people we are connected to that were trading on it in Europe, and we know what they were trading, exchanging, and working with it.  So it is up...You had to have an international trading platform to do it...  I really believe that tomorrow [Wednesday, 8-8-18] is going to be a big day.  All I can tell you guys are rates are populating...Rates are going to be fantastic. ...I really believe that this is right before the end. We should be receiving something shortly...
