US Stepping up Efforts in Support of Abadi’s Second Term
ERBIL — An official from the Iraq’s Islamic Da’wa Party, led by Nouri al-Maliki, has revealed that the United States is mounting pressure on political factions to support Haider al-Abadi reassume position of Iraqi premier.
“The United States of America is looking for a prime minister [for Iraq] who is its own friend, and a foe of Iran,” Sami Askari, an advisor to Maliki, told BasNews.
He explained that Washington’s position in the matter is because it fears some figures, especially those from Iranian-backed Fatih Coalition, to take over Iraq’s premier office.
However, the official said, neither the Da’wa party nor the State of Law Coalition are insisting on a figure from their own party to be elected as next Iraqi prime minister.
Jasim Bayati, a leading figure from Fatih Coalition, has also confirmed that Washington is now clearly and strongly supports Abadi.
He claimed that the US special presidential envoy, Brett McGurk, is also visiting Iraq now to enhance Abadi’s second term.

2018/08/21 00:17 Baghdad today - special
The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Ashwaq Jaf, n her party has not yet reached the stage of entering into the alliance to form the largest bloc, indicating that what is happening are understandings and discussions only.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party has priorities, the most prominent of which is the unification of the Kurdish ranks before moving to the stage of entering into alliances with other political forces," Jaf said in an exclusive interview with Baghdad today.
Our goal and ambition in alliance with any party is to apply the constitution in the spirit of law away from the political mood," she said.
She pointed out that "ongoing dialogues are understandings on the largest bloc, and did not reach the stage of declaring the alliance with a party."
The lists that led the legislative elections seek to attract the rest of the parties in order to form the largest bloc in preparation for the nomination of a candidate for the presidency of the next government, especially after the announcement of the Federal Supreme Court ratification of the final results of the elections of the House of Representatives, after checking all the names received from the Electoral Commission for elections.
The "core" of the chest and the bosom cracks, and the owners and the Amiri race. Iraq: a "stuck government" and a "mandate" crisis

An Iraqi sells automatic weapons in Baghdad - Reuters
The early declarations did not result in the formation of alliances and understandings between a number of political blocs winning in the recent Iraqi elections, a final result qualify for the formation of the largest parliamentary bloc that nominates the Prime Minister.
In a quick tour of the figures achieved by the blocs and alliances announced in succession without reaching a final agreement to form the largest bloc, which needs to include 165 seats authorized to form a government and the naming of its president, the outgoing Prime Minister Haider Abadi betting that the mass «victory» (42 seats) Is still able to form the largest bloc after the announcement yesterday on the formation of the nucleus of this bloc, which includes along with the leader of the «Sadrist movement» Moqtada al-Sadr leader of «coalition leader» leader with 54 seats, and the leader of the «wisdom stream» Ammar al-Hakim (19 seats) ) And the leader of the «National Coalition» Iyad Allawi (21 seats), add To the forces of the Sunni and Kurdish components as "complementary" to reach the threshold of 165.
However, the components of the teeth and Kurdish, which suffer from fragmentation itself did not attend the meeting that included this announcement.
But this became more difficult with the sudden statement issued by the National Security Adviser (Secretary General of the «tender movement») Faleh al-Fayadh, in which he threatened Abadi to withdraw from the alliance with him, declaring «not to commit to the rumors of the entry of the victory coalition in a limited alliance with some blocks Political ».
On the other hand, Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the crowd and the leader of the «Fateh» bloc winning 48 seats, and the rule of law (26 seats) led by Nuri al-Maliki, to achieve the pole and declare the largest bloc.
Analysts see Haidar al-Abadi's comments on Iraq's position against US sanctions against Iran as likely to have toppled his last hope for a second term, despite his clarifications that neither the Iranian side nor his opponents at home have been able to deepen his dispute with The Iranians.

Operation Roundup Continues to Target ISIS Remnants
Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve and its partners continue to pursue the lasting defeat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in designated parts of Syria and Iraq, task force officials reported on Monday.
Operation Roundup, which began May 1 to accelerate the defeat of ISIS in the Middle Euphrates River Valley and Iraq-Syria border region, has continued to gain ground and remove terrorists from the battlefield through offensive operations coupled with precision coalition strike support, officials said.
Between Aug. 13-19, coalition military forces conducted 15 strikes, consisting of 25 engagements, in Iraq and Syria.
Strikes in Syria
There were no reported strikes conducted in Syria yesterday.
On Aug. 18 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted a strike, destroying two ISIS supply routes.
On Aug. 17 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted a strike, destroying an ISIS logistics hub.
On Aug. 16 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted a strike, destroying an ISIS vehicle.
On Aug. 15 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted two strikes, destroying two ISIS supply routes.
On Aug. 14 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted three strikes, destroying two ISIS command-and-control centers, an ISIS command-and-control support facility and an ISIS supply route.
On Aug. 13 near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets, destroying an ISIS vehicle and two ISIS lines of communication.
Strikes in Iraq
There were no reported strikes conducted in Iraq yesterday.
On Aug. 18 near Rutbah, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of seven engagements against ISIS targets.
— Near Rutbah, a strike destroyed an ISIS vehicle.
— Near Samarra, a strike destroyed two ISIS-held buildings and an ISIS supply cache.
On Aug. 17 near the Hamrin Mountains, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of six engagements against ISIS targets, destroying an ISIS-held building and an ISIS vehicle.
There were no reported strikes conducted in Iraq Aug. 14-16.
On Aug. 13 near the Atshana Mountains, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of one engagement against ISIS targets.
Additional Strikes
On Aug. 12, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of four engagements in Iraq and Syria that were not reported in the previous release:
— In Syria near Abu Kamal, coalition military forces conducted a strike, destroying two ISIS lines of communication.
— In Iraq near the Hamrin Mountains, coalition military forces conducted a strike, destroying an ISIS supply route.
— In Iraq near Tuz, coalition military forces conducted a strike, destroying five ISIS-held buildings.
Part of Operation Inherent Resolve
These strikes were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the operation to destroy ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The destruction of ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria also further limits the group’s ability to project terror and conduct external operations throughout the region and the rest of the world, task force officials said.
The list above contains all strikes conducted by fighter, attack, bomber, rotary-wing or remotely piloted aircraft; rocket-propelled artillery; and ground-based tactical artillery, officials noted.
A strike, as defined by the coalition, refers to one or more kinetic engagements that occur in roughly the same geographic location to produce a single or cumulative effect.
For example, task force officials explained, a single aircraft delivering a single weapon against a lone ISIS vehicle is one strike, but so is multiple aircraft delivering dozens of weapons against a group of ISIS-held buildings and weapon systems in a compound, having the cumulative effect of making that facility harder or impossible to use. Strike assessments are based on initial reports and may be refined, officials said.
The task force does not report the number or type of aircraft employed in a strike, the number of munitions dropped in each strike, or the number of individual munition impact points against a target.

Cambridge, MA (Scicasts) — A new study provides fresh evidence that the decline in the capacity of brain cells to change, called "plasticity," rather than a decline in total cell number may underlie some of the sensory and cognitive declines associated with normal brain ageing. Kidney disease, once commonly thought of as a single entity, has become far more complicated. That’s a good thing, because it opens the door for better and more precise treatments. That was an important step forward in classifying and treating chronic kidney disease, which affects 30 million Americans. These stages helped better identify the progression of the disease, as the tissue destruction and scarring Read the full story

The US and Iran will negotiate again before long — and Putin will play a starring role
Business Insider
Even in its afterlife, the Iran nuclear deal continues to polarize. However, those negotiations won't look anything like they have in the past-and Russian President Vladimir Putin will likely play a starring role as peacemaker. Though Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei initially shot down any talks with the US, anyone certain that the Iranians Read the full story

8-21-2018 Newshound/Intel Guru Mnt Goat We all should realize by now this sorting and re-counting was nothing more than a dog and pony show. It was a well-orchestrated stalling tactic that almost back-fired on them. But now it appears it is coming to an end as they move ahead. Did they have a target date? No, as I said before it is not about a target date for the RV. ...But what did happen is they needed to get the corruption under control and weed out or neutralize those involved. They are moving ahead again since they feel this is now accomplished. ...We still have to hear from the CBI since this is the entity that will trigger the reinstatement... I am focused on the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI). The CBI has recently told me there will be a massive re-education campaign to educate the people. They said to look at the billboards and TV but mostly the news media articles coming forth in the very near future. Yes, I think we are still looking at some timeframe maybe in September and certainly not before.
8-20-2018 Newshound Guru chattels My sense is that there will be an announcement of a largest bloc sooner rather than later in this election cycle because there is a movement to avoid quotas. In order to do so the largest bloc must be clearly established at / by the convening of the Parliament and election of the President / Speaker of Parliament. There is talk of Iraq being out of compliance on the spread between the official rate and the parallel market rate.

8-20-2018 Newshound Guru Kaperoni Well unoffically the CBI seems to have fallen out of compliance now with the spread at 1215 to $1. What that means more than likely is they will have to get back in compliance and hold it for another 90 days. So unfortunately it doesn't look like the Central Bank of Iraq will be moving to Article VIII anytime soon. I'm not officially writing off the Central Bank of Iraq yet going to give it a day or two to make sure they are in or out of compliance. Because these numbers are not official if tomorrow's numbers are lower they could be back in compliance. On another note it looks like the government is moving forward with the largest bloc being formed and announced. [NOTE: The official (And LATEST) CBI tracked market rate for the dinar is always listed in the left column of this page. As of 8-20-2018 the rate has remained within 2% range for 90 days.]
8-20-2018 Intel Guru RayRen98 It has been reported that today on Iraqi TV Prime Minister Abadi has been calling for the government of Iraq to form immediately. On Monday, Aug 20th, was quoted, the names of the winners of the elections in the Federal Court will be approved and announced." So this week should be exciting for us but not RV exciting. The question now still remains - What will the CBI now do since the election saga is just about over? I am told they will progress forward with the “project to delete the zeros” once again. We can do nothing but take a deep breath, relax and wait and see how the CBI reacts.

The Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Fatih Yildiz, said his country is ready to provide all forms of assistance for the development of Kirkuk province.
"The future of Kirkuk is the future of Iraq and the future of Iraq is the future of Turkey," Yildiz told a news conference on Monday with Kirkuk Governor Rakan Said.
"Turkey will work on many projects in the province, including Kirkuk Civil Airport, as directed by Governor Rakan Said," the Turkish ambassador said.
He said that his visit to Kirkuk is a message to support the unity of the ranks of the people of the province and said in this context: "We believe that all components of Kirkuk Arabs and Turkmen, Kurds and Christians, can coexist with each other."
The Turkish ambassador on Tuesday prayed Eid al-Adha prayer in Kirkuk and will meet with many dignitaries in the province. For his part, the governor of Kirkuk, Rakan Said, said that "the Turkish Republic, the fact of the government and people have a significant impact in the hearts and memory of the Iraqi people."
He added that Turkey stood at a distance of one of its components in all the trials that the Iraqi people have faced from sectarian fighting to security and economic crises. He continued: "Do not forget that the Turkish Republic was the first aid to our wounds when there are explosions."
"And their organizations have done a great deal to help and aid the displaced people of our country."

Editorial date: 2018/8/20 19:46
{International: Al Furat News} revealed a leader of gangs terrorist advocate detained by the Iraqi forces for the latest information to the leader of the terrorist called Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
The newspaper "Wall Street Journal" American information on the situation of al-Baghdadi in his hiding place in the Syrian Badia, stating that he was very humiliated and white beard.
The newspaper obtained its information from an Iraqi leader in a dail called "Ismail al-Hithawi", is currently detained by the Iraqi authorities after his arrest in Turkey, which his intelligence services arrested and handed over to Baghdad.
Two correspondents interviewed al-Hithawi, a 47-year-old Islamic jurisprudent, in his prison. He reported that he was responsible for preparing curricula at the Islamic Institute of Da'ish in the Syrian city of Raqqa. He met al-Baghdadi in his hideout in May 2017 as part of an expanded meeting To the leadership of Daash, stressing that he was close to the decision-making, but was not part of it. "
Regarding the meeting place, he said that in the Syrian desert it is a desert location close to the city of Al-Mayadeen. The arrival there took a full day. It was punctuated by complicated security procedures. The guards took away the participants from the meeting with watches and pens. Pursue them.
The meeting was limited to al-Hithawi, the leaders of the elders. Al-Baghdadi then sat at the end of the room and spoke in a low voice with two leaders who were discussing the latest military developments.
He added: "The voice of his voice that Ola and accused them is characterized by indignity incompetence, and pointed out that the two men were removed from the membership of the leadership council at the end of the meeting.
On his impression of Baghdadi, al-Haythawi said he was shocked by the deterioration of his health. "He was very thin, and his beard became whiter," he said.
When the research went on with the three-hour meeting of curriculum subjects at Daqash schools, he said that the curriculum was considered "immoral in his academy" and rejected.
Al-Haythawi said the research then focused on whether the families of fighters should be evacuated from targeted areas in order to avoid unnecessary casualties and said they were supporters of evacuation.
Al-Haythawi pointed out that al-Baghdadi was the first to leave the meeting after his conclusion. He said that the security officials in Dahesh stopped him when they were out and subjected him to interrogation for "questioning their allegiance" and his influence on the families of the Daash members.
He said they were released a few weeks later, and that he fled to Turkey with his wife and daughter, where he was arrested after crossing the border.
On the interview arrangements, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal reported that al-Haythawi had been brought in at an Iraqi detention center with his eyes closed and wearing a sports suit while his hands were handcuffed.
The Wall Street Journal quoted an Iraqi security official as saying that the information obtained by al-Haythawi authorities, including his meeting with al-Baghdadi, facilitated the detection of other targets and shed more light on the conduct, thinking and ethics of their leaders.
He added: "We had information about the deterioration of the health situation of al-Baghdadi and the testimony of al-Hithawi came to confirm it."
